    Describe of Sohray Painting 👇
Sohrai paintings are a traditional indigenous art form from the Hazaribagh region of Jharkhand, India. Here are some characteristics of Sohrai paintings:
    Motifs
Sohrai paintings feature a variety of motifs, including animals, flowers, plants, geometric shapes, and representations of Shiva as Pashupati, the lord of animals. Common motifs include pregnant figures, animals with their young, hens and chicks, elephants, tigers, and cows.
    Colors
Sohrai paintings are traditionally made using natural colors derived from clay and haematites found in the region.
    Technique
Artists start by creating a smooth base coat on the wall or canvas, then sketch the design with chalk or a light pencil. They add the background first, then layer on details and patterns. Finally, they add traditional motifs or metallic accents, and finish with a protective varnish.
    Purpose
Sohrai paintings are created to celebrate the harvest and give thanks to nature. They are made on the exterior walls of homes to mark the festival of Sohrai, which is celebrated over five days after Diwali.
    Community
Sohrai painting is practiced by women of several indigenous communities in Jharkhand, including the Santhal, Munda, Oraon, Agaria, Kurmi, Ghatwal, Ganju, and Prajapati.
    Matriarchal
The skill of Sohrai painting is passed down from mother to daughter, and the tradition is significantly matriarchal.
    Distinct
Sohrai art is distinct for each community and village. For example, the motifs in Purninano are very different from those in Santhali village.
