Another wonderful and entertaining video Rob, even though I've never been to an RSD. But just the meeting and interacting with other vinyl collectors sounds like it's worth it. Haven't bought vinyl in many years, but I'm pleased with the modest collection I've accumulated. Occasionally, I like to take an album out from storage and hold it in my hands, admiring the cover - especially the ones I'm most proud of owning. Gives me a nice, warm feeling.

Great video as always. I've cured myself of consumerism and now view these videos for entertainment purposes only. Despite these high prices and lack of quality releases, people will be more than willing to part with their hard-earned money to get them. Spending is addictive.

Hey I've come across new vinyl with defects. I bought judas priest compilation, 50 years of metal maybe a year and a half ago. It's red vinyl. I noticed that there is very little room from the run off to the label. It makes my automatic return arm/needle scratch the record. It's a 2 record set and it does this on all 4 sides. And my rolling stones honk i can barely get on my spindle on my turntable. I had to bring home a reamer from work to open the hole up. I literally thought I was going to damage the record or my turntable trying to get the record off the spindle. Have you come across any similar defects?

I have the Hal Blaine and it is not a frequent listen. I would like to get the Vintage Heat. It is their first recordings and Blind Owl is indeed on the album. It is only 24 minutes long though. Stop And Smell The Roses is a $40 turd. The Miles Davis will be great though it is a RSD First.

As far as Record Store Day I went to one years ago, waited in the rain, for the only store that participated in this scam and then was told we didn't get any of those or we only got two of them and they've already been sold. Every RSD it is the same story. Yes every RSD the Cure releases a picture disc of one of their iconic albums, and EVERYONE complains. Yet every time, roughly 3-6 months later, they release a black vinyl version of that very same album. So if you don't want the PD, Then don't buy it. have patience, the the black vinyl will soon be on its way.
Who are picture discs for? Well........ ME!! I'm Over 50 and the Cure is my favorite band. I have been collecting for many years, and have of over 100 Cure albums, singles, and bootlegs. Picture discs are a welcome addition to my collection.
I personally buy both. I buy the picture disc for collecting, and the black vinyl for listening. On a side note this release "SHOW" and their last RSD Release "WISH" were both highly coveted by collectors, as neither have been repressed since the early 90's. For me they were the last 2 pieces to complete my collection, as I was not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on the original pressings.

  • @kingofskateop
    @kingofskateop Рік тому +1

Sorry, but most of those RSD records are garbage. Most records made before 1985 are now digitally sourced, and they are trying to cover up the recycled vinyl by adding colour and tricking you with those fancy colours. All records made before the digital era should be remastered from analogue tapes (master tapes if possible), and the entire cutting process should be done in analogue. A digitally sourced record shouldn't cost more than $15. If you pay $30 or more, it has to be analogue!

Thanks for doing more of a descriptive video on the releases and not just giving names and prices. I like the extra insight and I find it helpful.
There are a few I am interested in. And after watching your video, I can only remember two of them right now 🤔
I do wish the Canned Heat was from between 1970 and 1972 as far as the date it was originally recorded. But I'm going to hold off on that one right now. I bought a Canned Heat LP last year that was kind of a mix of old and new. I didn't even realize they were still touring until I saw some of the dates on the LP I bought.
I do want to get that Joan Jett Up Your Alley. I remember two or three songs I liked on the album when I had the CD back in the late '80s. Actually I still have the CD but never had it on vinyl. I always liked that song Little Liar. Great memories of the girlfriend I had at that time. I'm also interested in the 2 LP Suzi Quattro. I guess she's kind of the European Joan Jett. I just hope that 2 isn't the same LP I bought a few months ago that was some of her B-sides.
I didn't hear you mention the Fleetwood Mac Peter Greene era RSD release. I might be interested in that one but I need to stream it first. I would like to find something that was from around their 1970 era. I pre-ordered The Live in New Orleans 1970 LP, which was probably a bootleg I'm sure, but only a certain number of copies were made late last year. It's still in limbo on Amazon.
I'd actually like to check out the Willie Dixon LP too. He influenced one of my favorite bands, Led Zeppelin, and I'd like to hear some of his blues. I didn't even realize he played at Woodstock.
There were some others you mentioned but I need to go through the list again. Oh yeah, and you mentioned that Star ? band in that song that had the "ooh child" lyrics in it. Is that the song that goes on saying "things are going to get easier"? I don't remember where I first heard that song but I know I kind of liked it.
    Thanks again for the detail...

I was only to Record Store Day one time. There was a line, and a long one at that. Most people had a whole armful of records, and there was this one woman who only had two record items, and she was asking people if she could get in front of them, since she only had two items. Nobody oblidged her and I thought "Good." The rest of us only found a bunch of crap in the FREE boxes and she found something really special. An Elvis album with his autograph on the back! I guess we all thought she had a lot of gall finding something like that and then to top it off, trying to get out of waiting her turn in line. It might have been interesting though to see what the store owners reaction would be if she told him about her Elvis find, which probably got mixed in with the free albums. The record store owner was a bit unusual. He looked many years older than he really was. Even a person in line was commenting how he looked 84 years old even though he was really only 48. No doubt a grizzled weather beaten survivor of first, the compact disc explosion, and then the invention of the ipod and downloading. I found a rare record of a talented classical concert violinist who died when his plane went down, along with his cello and oboe player. It made a little corner of the newspaper, it never made the TV or radio news. It would have to be a "Rock" group or rappers to make real headlines like that. They were only classical orchestral musicians. I also picked up a halfway decent copy of Ever Since The World Ended by that master of pessimism; Mose Allison. Maybe instead of having free records in boxes, maybe they could clear out a big area of floor space, and have everyone stand around in a circle. Then have 4 or 5 guys all of a sudden dump hundreds of records in the middle of the floor and watch all the people dive for them all at once. Maybe there could even be an Acoustic Sounds record mixed in with them for some added drama and excitement. There could be free aspirins for anyone who bumped heads too hard with someone else. Maybe instead of picture discs, they could make a disc with a picture on it that just looks like a big blur; until it spins at 33 and 1/3 rpm and comes into perfect focus.

i've never been to a record store on RSD. always heard here and there, the offers are ridiculous, and many items are even not in stock on this special day. so why should waste time there, instead of having good times with family and friends.
for me personally, it seems like this RSD is just for stupid ones,
or rich people. it's a PR event for record shops to make cash.
and to be honest, almost every music that's worth to be in my collection, i find it somewhere when it's time. for me, it's not a must to own every record the time it comes out. being patient saves a lot of money.
    with the revival of records,
i x-perienced, the industry again produces too much bs nobody really needs/wants.
    unnecessary to mention prices.
i'm also the one who loves to spend time in record stores and listen to the music.

"why should waste time there, instead of having good times with family and friends.". As I said in the video, I enjoy the experience about once every 2 or 3 years because of the friends and new friends I could meet while in line. I certainly don't go for the great bargains. lol

Usually laugh at RSD while feeling bad for the stores that get stuck with the overpriced releases that don't sell.
A few I'm REALLY looking forward to this year: (note: I'm canadian)
Junkhouse - Strays .. first time on LP, a GREAT record! I love all of Tom Wilson's art.
54-40 - Smilin' Buddha Cabaret... first time on vinyl
Son Volt - Day Of The Doug... Sir Doug Sahm tribute. The Texas Tornadoes live record looks tempting too.
Warren Zevon - The Wind... so expensive and hard to find

    I find interesting this ones:
Irish alternative rock band The Cranberries fifth album first time on vinyl from 2001. I think in US this album don’t have any big success, but in Europe it was really big at the time.
Two albums from Italian goth metal band Lacuna coil. I was big fan of them in high school in mid-2000s like 2003-2005. But this more later albums, that I’m not familiar.
Poe’s album for me very nostalgic. Especially this song from Blair Witch movie that was big on the radio in that time.
Original mix of The Ramones Pleasure Dream with three bonus songs looks interesting.
Garbage EP with new never released tracks also looks promising

seriously a great video man! I'm thinking about getting the Stones album but I got to reissue from a few years ago the one that came with a extra 12-inch single of sympathy for the devil. I think I'm picking up the grateful Dead box set not that I need another grateful Dead box yet but I'm pretty sure I'm going to snag a copy of that. Koko Taylor is also on my want list ✌️🍻🎸

Robert that Microphone looks a bit weird. Theres a couple metal records I would get maybe this RSD. The Roy Ayers and E-40 also look cool. But those prices..
I agree with you I hate all these lame picture discs and crap live recordings that dont need to be put out let alone on expensive vinyl. Im watching your vid and calculating all these prices higher for Canadian. Good rundown of soul, psych and blues

Can't mess with Koko Taylor. Her version of "Evil" is easily the greatest version of that song. Also, can't go wrong with "Begger's Banquet". I am one of those weird Poe fans. Her songs were great. If I can find a used copy with ring wear, I'd pay 20 for that. Cheers!

Appreciate you giving us a good run down for upcoming releases- definitely going for Koko Taylor ( I’m originally from Chicago). Being a Fab/ solo fan. Wonder if the record store knows they got a bunch of Alligator Records in their dollar bin. I forget who, but makes me wonder if i should go snag them. And then take them in the day of. It would be funny if that KoKo is in it. Because they dont look at their inventory. If its not a band on their$9.95-$12.95 radar, then it pretty much gets chucked into the dollar bin.
Wow, $100 Van Halen album? Guess they didnt want to reissue Balance or III.
Ah, see, that Elton John album would get a $99.99 price tag for a used copy. But no worries, it will be marked down to $64.95, because woah! You're getting a great deal on that.
    Picture Discs? Exactly, no thanks.
The only shitty 90s album i want is 54-40's Smiling Buddha Cabaret. But i can get several copies on cd for a buck.

I miss the "listening stations" they had at Tower . A few other music stores had them as well, although we're talking CDs. It really took the gamble out of buying duds. My favorite stores are the 3 Amoeba Records in San Francisco, Berkeley and Hollywood. Great places to spend hours checking out their inventory.
Honestly, I haven't found I need to look at new stuff because my search and discovery of used material has no end in sight , yet.

This list does nothing for me, only thing i think i want is the Chet Baker - Chet which is mono put out by Craft Recordings but i don't see standing in line for it. Totally agree on the picture disk. I think RSD needs an over haul. Put i know I'm probably in the minority in that thinking because i love the whole standing in line and i work nights and get off at 6am so i usually go straight from work to my local store and get in in line and get my stuff and go home to go to bed because i have to wake up in a few hours to get up for work.
