    I have the ddj-sb2 and I agree with you, it makes no sense to upgrade to serato dj if your not going to be able to use all the features with this controller. I'm good with Intro & the sb2 for now and plan on upgrading at the end of the year. Great vid !

      +Joe Cali Thanks for watching and the feedback. I hadn't linked it in yet, but here's my review of the sx2 on my other channel. It's easily my favorite so far. ua-cam.com/video/DsERCmS2C3I/v-deo.html

    When I bought the SB2 I found a retailer (DJKit in the UK) where you pay an extra £30 at the time of purchase for the full version of Serato as well as an effect expansion pack. I think it was worth the extra 30 but there's no way I'd pay the full upgrade price. Basically as with anything just make sure you shop around when you buy it!

    Does the akai AMX mixer allow me to mix with deck 3 and 4 on the ddj sb2 controller? This would be using the channels offered by the akai AMX mixer as decks 3 and 4? I didnt quite catch what you meant. Thanks

    • @Consumerthon
      @Consumerthon  8 років тому

      +PeteSoLeet No. You only get 2 channels if both are hooked up.

    i think u should be able to cue point each track and record your own mixes on serato intro as basic vdj allows you to do so wich in turn made me wanna buy the full vesion where as serato intro makes me not wanna up grad but simply go back to vdj what dose every one else think.

    Do you know a program for record my mixes I have a ddj-sb2 and I try with audacity but it doesn't recognize my sb2 I buy a rca 3.5mm cable but it didn't work please I really want to record some mixes

    • @Consumerthon
      @Consumerthon  8 років тому

      You can upgrade to Serato DJ to record. If you have a input on your pc/laptop make sure to pay attention to whether its line vs mic level as that might be your issue with the rca to 3.5mm. Last alternative is to use Mixxx open source software which allows recording.

    what do you think of numark ns7 for a beginner dj

    • @Consumerthon
      @Consumerthon  8 років тому

      I really discourage it. I've owned one in the past. Now those units could be as old as 7 years (2009 release). They are heavy at 50 lbs + 20 lbs for flight case. I'd recommend the Pioneer sx2. ua-cam.com/video/DsERCmS2C3I/v-deo.html

    one more question, I own the Serato Intro, will I be able to use the FX expansions if I buy them, or do they only work on Serato DJ?

    • @Consumerthon
      @Consumerthon  8 років тому

      Meh. I'm not sure exactly. I know there's a lot less control for the effects. On the sx2 you're gonna have 4 knobs and 4 buttons dedicated to effects.

    Can you record mixes on Serato for a podcast?

    • @Consumerthon
      @Consumerthon  8 років тому +1

      The full version has the recording capability. Not intro. Gives you an .mp3 file so you can place that into your podcast.

      Mixtrack 3 is not serato compatible b/c no sound card. The mixtrack 3 PRO comes with Serato Intro.

      Use an RCA to 3.5mm lead, go from your second output on the controller to the mic/headphone input on your laptop. Download Audacity for free, open it, select laptop mic in as the input source and set Audacity to record audio straight from your controller. Make sure you play around with the volume levels you record at so your recording isn't distorted.

    Does that mean I can upgrade to the full version for free?

    dude, the entire suite is $149 until 4/28.... serato dj is $64.50. also, I noticed the bigger controllers have more inputs and a bigger mixer. not sure many people are gonna need more inputs and the 4 channel mixer if they are using deck 1 and 2. on the video, I have to disagree 100%, for $149 you get the whole suite..... and if you decide to buy a used controller down the road, you already have serato dj. most people selling controllers on eBay sell the hardware and not the software.... the upgrade is cool, especially is you make mix cds and sell them, you're gonna need the record feature. I see people doing big gigs with this sb2, not huge clubs, but some pretty big sports bars, parties, weddings etc. just need a bigger mixer for more speakers. what I am saying is, if you know what you're doing and know how to use your gear, your good. the upgrade pays for itself if your using it for gigs.... so yeah, upgrade and use all the features of your controller. now, if your using this in your home and you have no ambition to get any paid gigs, then do not upgrade.

    • @Consumerthon
      @Consumerthon  8 років тому

      +Frankie pannier It might be worth it for the recording at the 1/2 off price. If you buy a high end controller it comes with Serato Dj and is more capable of using the features. It'll be interesting to see if this price drop is permanent or happens frequently. I think Serato realizes there's not too much value in upgrading from intro.

    • @MrEarnxtracash
      @MrEarnxtracash 8 років тому

      +Consumerthon not just the recording but also pulselocker. it is only available with the upgrade... $20 a month for offline availability is cool, not the best, but hey. I mean yeah.... I get the fact that a bigger controller comes with the full version, but $315 you have a digital setup. this used to cost $3000 back in the days. 2 technique 1200 turn tables and a good 2 channel mixer, plus you needed a sampler.... so I think it is a perfect investment for someone to get some gigs and then upgrade.... 1 wedding or decent party can pay for tbe controller and software. 3 gigs can pay for an entire setup. back in the days out took for ever to recoup the investment, plus the expense for the records. now $20 a month gets you in the ball park....

      +Frankie pannier I'm torn with this debate because I really like Serato for the professional.
      For the beginner I feel its more of a trick to spend money on features you can't use. It's bs the recording function doesn't come with an entry level controller. It's bs there's not enough pads on the sb2 to access 1-8 cues, 1-6 samples, 1-4 sampler banks at the same time.
      There are alternatives:
      Serato was last to the party with Pulselocker behind Virtual DJ and Algoriddim's streaming partnerships. Djay Pro (algoriddim) is $50 +$10 for Spotify. You can buy a $200 controller which includes the full version of Djay Pro. As a beginner you should consider this setup or go without a controller and just use your laptop.
      Check out this vid on my other channel showcasing some of the features like trackpad scratching and effects that Djay Pro has and Serato doesn't.
      ua-cam.com/video/tszbtSXWQ5o/v-deo.html
      Again I like Serato for professional use. For beginners its like they're bullying people that don't know any better to spend more money.
