  • Unrest within the German Empire is spreading, resentment against the war, the hunger and the elites is turning into revolutionary action and with a mutiny in Kiel the wheels begin to turn quickly. Austria signs an armistice, the Macedonian Front collapses, Romania might enter the war again and the new German political leaders send a delegation through the lines in France. Their goal: An Armistice.

From what been posted on the other channel, following the second world war week by week, It given the impression TGW team already stopped filming here and the last 3 weeks were in the can a number of weeks ago (4 or 5 weeks ago) - if so it looks like last week will be the last set of the videos - but it all down to what the contract of employment says and what the team have signed for or even been paid for and up to (but it looks like they all left after the final 3 weeks where filmed) and I bet there is a lot of video that never been shown yet from trips and other projects they have filmed over the last few years - hopefully, Flo can do the swap and make it to the other channel as well.

Thank you Indy and the rest of The Great War team for creating something that brought so much clarity about one of the most terrible wars in human history. You did more than what most of all of our history teachers could do and gave this pivotal point in history the attention it deserves. At one point it made me painfuly aware that if i was born not in 1996 but in 1896 that i would have most likely died like half of Serbia's male population, on Cer, by the banks of the Kolubara river, on some road in Albania, a hospital in Greece or Tunisia, on the slopes of mount Kajmakchalan and so many unnamed battlefields. Although I write this with tears in my eyes I am not sad that this is over, it was about a war and as all wars it should end, I am thankful for your work.

Not only did 1914 victories save Serbia but also impacted Italy to enter the war and choose allied side. With Italy on Central powers side, the war may have had a different end.
Furthermore, Serbia`s role in breaking Salonica front was widely described by Foch, D`Esperay and Lloyd George as well as by the German Kaiser ("62.000 Serbian soldiers have turned the tide of the War and decided the outcome" in his telegram to the Bulgarian king)

My favourite Wilfred Owen poem Futility
    Move him into the sun-
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields half-sown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know .
Think how it wakes the seeds,-
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs, so dear-achieved, are sides,
    Full-nerved-still warm-too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
-O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth’s sleep at all?

I've always been fascinated about how Germany went about starting the peace process, such a hard subject to get facts on. I knew about the car journey across the front and Foch demanding no negotiations but I'm still at a loss as to how it actually started, who made the call, who decided who was to make the journey, which German/French/British army units were told 'there's a couple of cars coming through, don't shot at them', how did the road cars actually get through no-mans land, where did the delegates stay, who's idea was it to use a railway car rather than say a hotel or palace????? Would love to know the nitty gritty of these events.

My grandfather, Rupert Powell was in the AEF from the beginning. He landed in Southern England in the fall of 1917. He shared with me very few details about his combat experience. He did say that the men in his company knew about the influenza epidemic and were fairly frightened about that. He was gassed twice. When he was sent back to a field Hospital, he developed mumps, and was then sent home. He passed away in 1982 at the age of 86

THEY REALIZE TOO LATE HOW IMPORTANT BULGARIA WAS FOR THE OUTCOME OF THE WAR and yet left Bulgaria alone on the Macedonian front

Been watching since the beginning and have never commented just wanna say I'm going to miss you so much. I started watching you when I was 12 and now I am 16 so in some ways I grew up with you. You have made me interested in history and have really help develop my knowledge on WW1 so thank you so much, I will miss you dearly.

I have to say, there has never been a history documentary this thorough, this entertaining, this moving, and this influential to me than TGW. 2014 seems a long time ago, with the Somme, Verdun, Brusilov all distant… thank you.
