@fmotadesign That's one thing I love about this tandem drafting, the teamwork involved. It turned this race into a team vs team affair rather than a driver vs driver affair. I think it's awesome how tandem racing brings the battle between teams into visual focus. It makes "Hendrick vs Roush" into an actual battle on the racetrack involving multiple cars, rather than a battle to accumulate the most statistics over the course of a season.
Jimmy Johnson will always be remembered as one of the greatest drivers to ever put on a helmet in racing history for all that he has accomplished, and we havent seen it all.
My favorite line of Fox Sport's commentation of NASCAR: Darrel: I belive he got him by and inch. Larry: TWO ONE THOUSANDTHS OF A SECOND! Darrel: Okay, a 16th of an inch.
im a gordon fan, and i still think this was great. right at the start of the last lap i was screaming at the tv like they could hear me. although gordon lost, i was still super happy at the end. best finish ever
Alright, for all of you people out there. Admit that Johnson had won that race. His tires did touch the line but he was behind Martin. When he was bumper to bumper, they are just about door to door. His pass was legal and therefore he won. Second, Johnson wouldn't have won if he didn't have a teammate like Jr pushing him. The best car all day helped and in a way won that race. Johnson even knew that. That's why he gave Jr the checkered flag. true teammates working there. Great work 48 and 88.
@BD24STHS12 thats another great point, ive watched many a race at Talladega where for 20+ laps they run single file and it doesnt get much more boring than that, so i hear ya. Me personally, I still like to old way better.
I like how somehow Junior is credited with winning this race among "loyal" nascar fans. If pushing stuff was valuable, then my jail-mate Bubba would be the ultra-universe champion!
@DigitalAlpine Do you think he will have a diffrent point of view of the 2 car draft in the result of this past sunday race? He kind of seem like bothered about the 2 drafting. I mean they both ran really well Jr lead 11 laps Jimmie lead 12 i think its just really good see Jr doing way better than he did last year i am a Jr Fan but what do you mean you already know hey i would like to know too lol!!
@weaverracing96 No i mean thats very true, I cant really speak on whether or not I would personally enjoying doing it because, of course, ive never done it. But I think from purely a TV viewing stand point, I think I like the old way better. I will say this though, as somebody pointed out to me earlier, I bet the 2 car system is awesome to watch from the stands. I dont doubt that one bit
Just imagine ESPN calling this finish: "And here they come"...... "wow....I think Jr got it" "Even with a finish like that you cant help but notice Danica had a great day though guys, a finish of 32nd, was up to 15th at one point, that is better than this finish in my book...."
Well guys this isn't technically the closest race in NASCAR. I was playing Nascar '07 and got one one-thousandth of a second behind Matt Kensenth at the Pepsi 400 at Daytona. BTW I was Greg Biffle.
I was there and have to agree, 'less you are a kyle busch or any hendrik fan it was boring until the last laps...but it was very exciting for me,kb fan, and I like the 2 car tangos my self...matter of opinion I guess.. but to be there is better, they get super fast runs off of the truns!
@Jimjohm8 Nah, the last 5 laps is where you gotta decide a winner. Right now, we're seeing a step in the evolution of Restrictor Plate racing. What they need to do to perfect it is put in the combination where they'll run together, but they can stay wadded up. Now if anything, they should be spread out 'til about 40 laps to go, then start going for the win. That'll get a big crash with about 10 to go.
@DigitalAlpine You might like it know because its new but given time I think you will get tired of it. Hey, but you make a great point with a very level headed response and your right it comes down to a matter of preference...for me, 2 reasons i hate it and think it wont last...1. Almost every single driver said he hated it and it wasnt fun to race like that 2. The bigger restrictor plates (I think thats the reason) which allow them to bump draft all the time like that, kills the top speeds
@DigitalAlpine Yeah thats true Jefff & Martin Close the door on them when Jimmie & Jr tried the the middle then on turn 4 Jimmie stuck that nose underneath martin and it was all over from there lol! but did you see at the end how Jr gave Jimmie an extra shove from behind to win it that was crazy and yeah i was suprice that hey didnt wreck each other too but man you must be super focus when pushing your team mate and try not to spin him out like Kurt did with Brad K.
@msullivan85 I can see both sides. As a race driver too, though. I can't deny that I'd love the chance to try the 2 car tandem drafting. I'm not saying I'll love it or hate it as a driver, but I'd really like the oppurtunity to push/be pushed at 200+ mph for lap after lap. Really seems like it takes incredible bravery and planning (even by professional driver standards)
I was suppose to be at this race but spent the day before during the Nationwide race at the tracks care center with food poisoning and then this day in the doctors office getting IV's and drugs pumped in me. Glad I had insurance on the tickets got some of my money back.
@jrod25young He even said so himself that his car was the better pusher. Definitely one of the best restrictor plate racers ever and that race proved it as he helped his teammate win.
kyle has done like 3 last lap passes at talladegga. including a nice one in this years bud shootout. and he saved the car twice from spinning that same race.
@msullivan85 i dont know...yea old racing in the big pack was cool..but theyd run like that for a while and then go to single file racing..and i hated seeing them running single file at talladega...at least with the 2 car draft most of the day yesterday there was always somebody passing someone else...i was at the race yesterday and it was a really good race in the stands...it musta looked better in the stands then on tv...bc the only boring part was the middle of the race...the rest was great
Dylan Ecclestone Get back to me when you learn sarcasm. You take shit seriously on the internet. Your parents should probably take away your pc for a little while longer.
@BWIGG17 You couldn't have said it better bud. Personally, I prefer seeing the whole field wadded up in a bunch where the chance of a huge malee's very likley, but then again, I also like this new style. I think we saw a sample of this two years ago though, when Brad Keselowski was pushing Carl Edwards, but the difference of that was Brad went for the win. Here, you saw sacrafice.
Maybe they should get the Nationwide drivers to be a pusher, so all the guys racing for a championship in the Sprint Cup can get the win, and vice versa for the nationwide race.
@jrod25young he has had some good success at richmond. a race he shouldve won at a couple years ago but got spun by busch. maybe this will be his race. lets watch him snap that winless streak of over 100
I wanted JR to win this race and i feel that he did. Let's face facts.This new Talladega racing is a two team race. The pusher will have to sacrifice the win being the pusher and the leading car is nothing without being push so Harvick ,Martin and Biffle would be making the sacrifice. So the way i saw it coming to the checkered was, Two Hendricks, Roush and Childress fighting for the win. I thought it was really awesome Jimmie giving the checkered flag to JR. They both won that race. It was bad.
@msullivan85 Yes I agree with you i hate seing this two car draft racing i want to see all the drivers fighting for 1st place. Just Dale Jr said i just hope this 2 car draft is just phase and hope that it will fade out quickly
@jeffg24LT21 well, if you ask me, if all the good drivers are taken out, then there won't ever be change, for example, trevor bayne winning the 500, its about time not a big named driver won it
@COBRAKR500 right man...i saw that same article of Dale Jr. (im not a fan) and i couldnt agree with him more. Thats just MY opinion. Ive gotten very level headed responses with agruments praising the 2 car racing, but its not for me. The vast majority of drivers hate and I tend to usually side with them because im also a race driver (relax guys, totally amature)
@neilyoungster so do you want only a few drivers to stink up the show?? One of the great things about dega and daytona is the amount of lead changes! every week it seems like people complain about its not competitive enough blah blah blah. well ya know what, this produces what fans love, fast pace,lead changes, wrecks,strategy,excitement, and great finishes
the 2 car draft is the worst thing that happened in nascar. i hope that nascar goes back to the old car with the COT stuff and race 3 or 4 wide in restrictor tracks.
@MINN3APOLIS Yeah i was pushing for Gordon to win but i knew he was a sitting duck because he took the lead to early going into turn one on the last lap. I new that Bowyer and Harvick were gonna get the run on him. And Martin. I wanted he to win the 500 when he came in second to harvick and lost the championship to jimmie. That man deserves it like Dale SR winning hes.
I hate these 2 car drafts, when look at the arca race the 2 days before the cup race there were a lot of pack racing. I believe my personal blame to nascar is weight comparison arca cars and nationwide/cup cars. The arca and the old nationwide/cup cars move around a lot but not the nationwide/cup cars because of its weight. Although there was a lot lead changes and a great finish.
i think jimmy n jr where under the yellow line at 1:49 but they were forced so good call by nascar i guess. just wis harvick would have won it tho. Awsome finish decent race. GO 29!!!
i mean i know they are teaming but only one person can win that was classy of jr and the two other drivers to push their team btw i have been worlds biggeswt jimmie johnson fan what is kind of ironic is who ever i like always wins for exame 5 or 6 years ago before the first race i liked tony stewart then versince then i have been a jimme fan but next year i think ima take kyle bush
seeing this makes me more exited to see F1 and others at silverstone this weekend! and dont say ill have to wait a few minutes for another car to go by, because there are 22 cars and they all split up! no this rubbish :P lol saying this is gonna bring on some uptight nascar lovers
And yet none of them were in the sprint cup series under a points paying race. Kyle isn't a badass for what he did in the Bud Shootout. Plenty of drivers have come back after a spin to win. And at Daytona, where you could go from 43rd to 1st in 2 laps, it doesn't make Kyle's win anymore impressive. Plus there weren't even 10 cars on the lead lap in that race in the first place! When ever i see him win (which isn't often) and people think "that was amazing!!!" i just remember back to Texas 2011.
@msullivan85 Yup that's true there is nothing really cool about two car racing but to each thier own u know but its not like the old days when all 40 drivers battled each for first place to me thats racing and plus you have more bragging right's at the end because you didnt on your own with with out someone pushing you all the way Jimmie Should of had Dale Jr with him in victory lane because if it wasnt for Jr he wouldnt have won that race oh really thats cool what kind of rcing do you do?
I never get tired of watching this sensational ending! Greetings from Brazil.
This race finish was awesome

The Best Nascar finish ever
YYYYYYAAAAAASSSSSS!!! So Exciting!!! It's Funny How About The Whole Front Half Of The Field Was Bump Drafting With Someone!!!
That was amazing
Carl was so so fucking close. Half a straightaway he would of had it
Listen to the fans!....It's been awhile since I've herd a reaction like that. I miss the good ole days.
Best finish of 2011 so far.
What a fantastic race!!!!!!
This 2 car draft deal is great, it puts a whole new spin on plate racing. It really shows who is a racer and who is a driver!
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.... 88 MY FAV, 48 MY 2ND FAV... THE BOYS :)
We need the Great pack racing back Go jr.
i used to know somebody who drove the 33 in nascarbut he lost to 1 16th of an inch so he now dries the 15
JustThatCuberGuy Clint bowyer
Todays Atlanta Motorspeedway finish brought me here
GOOOO JIMMIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And people think this isn't good racing. I love drafting :)

@dale0038
Let's get it right. it was a good day for hendrick motorsports. and at one point in the race jimmie was pusing Jr.
I was there and have to agree, 'less you are a kyle busch or any hendrik fan it was boring until the last laps...but it was very exciting for me,kb fan, and I like the 2 car tangos my self...matter of opinion I guess.. but to be there is better, they get super fast runs off of the truns!

but the finish was awsome!!

@spartanxxx17
It just makes the talladega race more exciting...you know what? Just forget it.

Circle of all circles.
Jumper76Anton you mean oval?....lol idioit doesn't even know his shapes
Dylan Ecclestone It was fucking sarcastic you fucking idiot. I can't believe there's actual people who watch this type of shite.
get back to me when you learn your shapes.
Dylan Ecclestone Get back to me when you learn sarcasm. You take shit seriously on the internet. Your parents should probably take away your pc for a little while longer.
having a bad day at school bro?
GO JR i watched this race
@BWIGG17 You couldn't have said it better bud. The sad part is that this is gonna be his only win of the year.
Here after Atlanta.
@azapache2006
Very true!
how about making a right turn for once?
Lol the one time I was rooting for Jimmy Johnson because Jr was pushing him.
@msullivan85 Yes I agree with you i hate seing this two car draft racing i want to see all the drivers fighting for 1st place. Just Dale Jr said i just hope this 2 car draft is just phase and hope that it will fade out quickly

Instead of tandem racing, they should call it "Pitchers and catchers."
Funny... In the pre race show Kyle busch had no cheer and DW said ( if you wanna have cheers just push jr for a win ) lol :P Go JR
@nascarfanatic2425 I think they should bunch up til 5 to go.
@dragonbeast5874 why?
JIMMIE 5-TIME!!!!!!!!
Poor Gordon,i really wanted him to win this one ...
great day for hendrick!
beest talladega isaw
@MikegLA310 The only bad thing was... seeing Jimmie Johnson winning.
lol if you didn't now itlooks like a 2 v 2 race(teams)
5 championships say otherwise
it makes them both faster, its called drafting...something you wont find in other types of racing

Jimmie Johnson: trollface. jpg
Jr should won that race
@paparoach189 Doubt it, now that it's Chase time, jimmie's gonna knock out 3 or 4 wins in no time
JG came SO CLOSE!
@fmotadesign johnson wanted to give the trophy and the plaque to jr. but jr said no he wanted the flag
@MINN3APOLIS Yeah i was pushing for Gordon to win but i knew he was a sitting duck because he took the lead to early going into turn one on the last lap. This race was boring but it sure paid off with a great finish!
i mean i know they are teaming but only one person can win that was classy of jr and the two other drivers to push their team btw i have been worlds biggeswt jimmie johnson fan what is kind of ironic is who ever i like always wins for exame 5 or 6 years ago before the first race i liked tony stewart then versince then i have been a jimme fan but next year i think ima take kyle bush
@radngnarlysk8 Again, close but yet so far :( - Had it ended one lap earlier, he would have.. or so it appeared LOL - at least he got the Phoenix win.
seeing this makes me more exited to see F1 and others at silverstone this weekend! and dont say ill have to wait a few minutes for another car to go by, because there are 22 cars and they all split up! no this rubbish :P lol saying this is gonna bring on some uptight nascar lovers
Francoberry f1 aka the single file no passing race series
@wildfast88 i guess 100+ wins isn't a lot to you
hahahahaahhaahaha ikr
@spartanxxx17
But the Big one didnt happen...
@jrod25young I am actually gonna say that belongs to Juan Pablo Montoya. hes a disrespectful driver.
PÓrca La misÉria!!! por menos de um pentelho de diferença.
best finnish ever, i dont like jeff so if jimmy won idc much dam good finnish(you know jeff would have beaten boyer if jimmy wasnt there.)
And yet none of them were in the sprint cup series under a points paying race. Kyle isn't a badass for what he did in the Bud Shootout. Plenty of drivers have come back after a spin to win. jimmy took it!!!! woooooohoooo lol :)
YEAH JIMMIE!:D
nope, look up the spring darlington 2003 race, that my friend is the best finish ever on nascar on fox, i say its the best nascar finish ever period
Dalee2488 why ?
@msullivan85 Yup that's true there is nothing really cool about two car racing but to each thier own u know but its not like the old days when all 40 drivers battled each for first place to me thats racing and plus you have more bragging right's at the end because you didnt on your own with with out someone pushing you all the way Jimmie Should of had Dale Jr with him in victory lane because if it wasnt for Jr he wouldnt have won that race oh really thats cool what kind of rcing do you do?
@govtracy dissagreed. Finish was amazing, race was BEYOND boring...
