You have helped this grandma make some beautiful cakes for her kids. Thank you so much for sharing! Can't wait to watch what you do next! God bless you Laura
You are very welcome. Rather than just pulling or yanking them out, what I like to do is try and stick the tips of my fingers in there and squeeze the plastic together to loosen it up before I pull it out. :) Hope that helps! :)
I just started teaching my self how to bake and design cakes, and im in love. I want you to know how much I love watching yout tutorials, they are so detailed. There is simply no comparison to others! Could you tell me the must have tools that I need! Thanks
Thanks Laura! I just tried the bow and it came out good! It was so easy :) i tried it last night but still its not completely hard. So I'm going to give it another day or so. I like how you explain every step so well. I live in Los Angeles btw. :)
Water breaks down gumpaste and takes a very long time to dry. Edible glue is more tacky and has a gel like consistency and dries a lot faster than just water. It takes very little to glue things. :)
Thanks for your rapid response Laura, I would like to ask you another question please. I have just made my bow using your technique, I would like to ask if there is a special way I should remove the plastic bag pieces inside my bow?
Have you got a lion tutorial? Did your elephant one and it was great! So easy to follow and it turned out pretty good. Thanks for your amazing work and for sharing your skills.
That's so funny that you ask that because at this very moment that's what I'm doing for a cake. If you would like to see a photo of how I am allowing my bow to dry standing up, please visit my Krazy Kool Cake DESIGNS Facebook page and you'll see a photo on my wall. I just posted the picture last night. You'll find the link to my FB page underneath this video. :)
Hi! Here in the dry desert climate we live in, usually less than a day. If you live in a humid place, it might be a couple of days. Just really depends on your particular weather and climate conditions. :)
hi. would you recommend using plain fondant or gumpaste(sets hard) for the bow. Will using just fondant cause the bow to collapse? I love this tutorial and although a little more complex than others I have seen, the end result looks much better thank you
i bit the bullet and made the bow for my daughter's christening cake last night. It turned out very well! Thank you for the tutorial it's the one I kept coming back to and it produced excellent results!!
+Chris Brown Thanks Chris! I recommend gluing the bow to the hat while the bow is still moist. You want the bow to take on the shape of the top of the hat, plus, it's super hard to glue dry gumpaste to dry gumpaste. :)
laurapoopie Thank you for the reply! I ended up using gumpaste and was very happy with the result. The bow can be seen here on a Burberry cake I made for a friend's bridal shower. www.vickylee.net/portfolio/food-photography-burberry-cake-cupcakes/.
Love your tutorials!! How long does the bow take to dry? If adding it to the mouse ears (done the Krazy Kool Cakes way) do I just add edible glue to the back of the bow? Thanks :)
Hi Maria! The amount of time it takes to dry if using gumpaste, really depends on the climate and weather in which you are in. Here we live in a very dry desert so my creations dry in just one day. I usually add the bow to the mickey/minnie hat while it is still somewhat moist. The hat is completely dry but the bow is still moist so it will still mold to the shape of the top of the round hat. Yes, you only add glue to the back of the bow where it will be touching the ears, and maybe a little glue at the bottom of the middle section that will be sitting on top of the hat. I hope that makes sense and it helps. :)
I like your videos I've done cakes but people want cakes for free or discount but they don't realize that making a cake cost money cause weather you make it from box or from scratch you have to buy the ingredients and make it then you have to wait for it to cool completely an then the time it takes for you to frost an decorate it takes time and I also hear it's just cake well if it just cake then anyone can just make a plain cake at the store you don't get it for free or discount unless they complain about it so I just don't make them much anymore cause they don't like the price I now just do it to stay practicing cause I like to make cakes an practice to get better what would you suggest I do
Thank you Hortensia! The money you spend on making cakes is the least of it. More importantly is the amount of time you're spending making it. That's REALLY what you should be charging for when making cakes. The cost of ingredients is nothing. I'd like to invite you to register for our April 30th Cake Pricing Webinar (online). You can find the link to it below our latest Cake Biz Series video. :)
We make our own gumpaste using Wilton fondant. I have a tutorial on how we make it. Please check out the tutorial here on my UA-cam channel. At the moment we use a lot of Fondx for our fondant covered cakes.

Thank you! :)
Hope it works for you! :)
I love the tutorial, so easy to follow. How much gumpaste did you use to make this bow please?
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it! I believe this can be made with just one stick of our gumpaste. :)
love it !
You're very welcome! :)
I've always loved Miles Davis and he always used to refer to something amazing as "crazy cool". I used to say it all the time too. LOL. :)
Thank you, very helpful, I hate taking too much measurement, so using one strip is much easier for me.
:))
You're very welcome! Good for you! :)
We make our own gumpaste using a mixture of tylose and Wilton fondant. We have a tutorial here if you'd like to check it out.

Hi! Here in the dry desert climate we live in, usually less than a day. If you live in a humid place, it might be a couple of days. Just really depends on your particular weather and climate conditions. :)
so pretty
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching! :)
Hi. The edible glue is tylose mixed with warm water. :)
hi. would you recommend using plain fondant or gumpaste(sets hard) for the bow. Will using just fondant cause the bow to collapse? I love this tutorial and although a little more complex than others I have seen, the end result looks much better thank you
You're very welcome Franki! We only use gumpaste and that is what we recommend. :)
i bit the bullet and made the bow for my daughter's christening cake last night. It turned out very well! Thank you for the tutorial it's the one I kept coming back to and it produced excellent results!!
Hi Laura, when you mix your gum paste and fondant... which one do you have to have more of? Fondant or Gum Paste?
HI Teres, We don't mix our gumpaste with any fondant. :)
this is so great, If I make the bow in advance can I attach to the hat and ears after the bow is dry?
+Chris Brown Thanks Chris! I recommend gluing the bow to the hat while the bow is still moist. You want the bow to take on the shape of the top of the hat, plus, it's super hard to glue dry gumpaste to dry gumpaste. :)
thank you!!
+Chris Brown You're welcome Chris! :)
yeyyyy i just made my first bow x
+cheryl b That's awesome Cheryl! Way to go! :)
I think this method might actually work for me!! I'm excited , I'm making a fondant cake for the first time and the bow is killing me!!!!
Hi laura, quick question....how long does it usually take for the bow to completely dry?
Fondant alone is VERY flimzy and it cracks and breaks very easily. Doesn't hold its shape well. Gumpaste is just fondant with tylose mixed into it. :)
If I want to make a vow with the tale would u recommend to make the bow in gumpaste and the tale in fondant? I'm worried I get 2 different colors
We make everything out of gumpaste. :)
Hi Laura, thank you for the great tutorial. Do you think this would work with fondant icing?
Hi! Thank you! You can use fondant but I highly recommend using gumpaste as it's stronger and holds its shape better. :)
laurapoopie Thank you for the reply! I ended up using gumpaste and was very happy with the result. The bow can be seen here on a Burberry cake I made for a friend's bridal shower. www.vickylee.net/portfolio/food-photography-burberry-cake-cupcakes/.

Yes people don't want to pay so I just make for my kids and grandkids some friend that do pay..
could the gum paste bow be steamed to make it shinny or should the fondant covered cake be steamed before adding the bow? Thanks!
Yes you can definitely steam on or off the cake. It makes no difference. :)
Laura how come you use edible glue instead of water? Can you tell me the difference please?
What kinds of both fondant and gumpaste do you use? Your cakes are always very clean and your fondant (and gumpaste) look very easy to work with :o)
We make our own gumpaste using Wilton fondant. I have a tutorial on how we make it. Please check out the tutorial here on my UA-cam channel. At the moment we use a lot of Fondx for our fondant covered cakes.
pls share your recipe for gumpaste... it looks like fondant, so nice!
thank you for telling me that. :)
what would you do if you were wanting it to sit on a top tier, to make the bottoms more flat so it will sit up?
hi laura, is the mat your using, like Silpat silicone?
Hi Maria! Yes, it is a silpat silicone mat. :)
