I went to jail for the first time a few months ago for a traffic ticket i didn't pay 5 years ago. I was scared shitless. I am a black woman and when I tell you it was the most humiliating experience and the scariest experience of my life....its an UNDERSTATEMENT.

Some people are commenting “if you do the crime, do the time” and yes people who commit crimes should have to be accountable but our system is biased, inhumane, cost inefficient, and causes people to continue to be punished even after they leave whether due to PTSD or because they’re unable to get jobs and housing. I am not going to say the justice system is perfect or not flawed or unbiased. However, you knew when you were doing certain activities that one of the consequences would be jail. I don't understand the reasoning behind crying and being devastated after you are held accountable for what you chose to do. People have to make better decisions for themselves because what you choose to do not only affects you but your family.
