Great song ! In style I think that's a Zoot suit late 1930s/ early 40s? The girls' outfits reflect Busby Barkeley musicals of the 1930. Kid Creole (August Darnell) was a stylish act.
Seeing the clip of the police at the start and listening to the lyrics, the brass backing music has the same feel to my ears as some of those 70's detective programmes, especially Barnaby Jones, Mannix, Cannon, etc. It sounds even better now that I hear it again, almost 40 years after I heard it the first time. I'm almost expecting a voiceover to say; "A Quinn Martin production".
According to the Official Charts website this hit #7 in mid-August of 1982. The top 6 songs the week it peaked were "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners, "Fame" by Irene Cara, "Don't Go" by Yazoo, "Driving In My Car" by Madness, "It Started WIth A Kiss" by Hot Chocolate and "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor
Not what my neighbors think when I play my real music outside they get mad and close the window door and they make sure I hear the door close while I put the volume a little more up. Young people these days
This amazing act would be banned in these stupid days of 'women power' garbage' Whats wrong if women want to show how beautiful they are and how talented they are at dancing. Its their choice. And I for one love watching this type of act.
@@colinyoung3685 I’ll have to check him out. Checking out his Wikipedia he’s the one who came up with the great line “the revolution will not be televised”. Seems like he was way ahead of any early rappers, probably more of an influence a little later. A lot of the early rappers were more hype men to get the crowd into the party and music from the dj. From what I understand Jamaican toasting was a big influence on that. Then it evolved with real poetry.
He was in Doctor Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band but not this August Darnell project as far as I know? Coati Mundi has his own UA-cam page which is fairly active and has some great videos on it
This was a great act, back in the early 80’s

@@steverowlands338 Agreed. Check out the " Endicott" video - perfectly sums up the stage persona. Plus its great!
I'd rock that suit today in my 85 Sentra with this song and other 80s songs as well as me smoking a joint Mary jannne

Great song very Cab Calloway.
I wonder what kept this off the No1 spot? This reached #2 in the UK charts. I remember watching this at the time.

C aroline ITS ME
ITS MY SONG
Kid wrote is for me
My name is CAROLINE ...
Absolutely love this song, but there are some live versions out there that capture it better. It needs a slightly faster tempo.
Ha cha cha cha!
"AAAH"
And the Girls........................................................?
Don't get me started
Have you seen their musical film on UA-cam.

"My body my choice" when it suits them, "your body my choice" otherwise.
What are you talking about? Female artists are now showing even more flesh and are more provocative. Today, this would look tame.
I wished they would had recorded this at a faster speed.
Why? It's got a perfect groove to it.
I liked the House version .
Sounds like rap to me in between the chorus! Before it's time I'd say!
Kurtis Blow, Kool Moe Dee and the Sugarhill Gang were well before this
@@simonhowles3646 yes I know mate. But this is one of those early songs that had those little added elements that were before the time .
@@simonhowles3646 I count Gil Scott Heron as proto-rap, don't know anything mainstream that predates him but could well be my ignorance.

It’s at least a very early example of it being used in a pop song that isn’t cringey
Where's Mundi??
He's back on Wednesday.

Avalanches sampled this
So ein Auftritt mit den HALBNACKTEN Mädels , nicht mehtr denkbar.... !!!
Lack lustre. Needs a full stage and theatrics, as the German promoter did, to bring it to life.
Top of the pops was lackluster. That was the charm ✨️
Had a few zoot suits …..me little legs weren’t suited to them but hey they were cool.😅
Is he singing about a mafia guy ??????????
