If you're interested, the main plot is that Sun Wukong found out the truth about how gods and buddhas gain their immortality (basically they are eating mortals and yaoguais and even some of their own to stay immortal and powerful) and wanted no part of it(you can read about this in the Journal - Great Sage' s Broken Shell ) , thus he quitted his position in heaven and his buddhahood. But gods(Celestial Court) and buddhas(LingShan) wouldn't let that go, thus they summoned or forced other great YaoGuai Kings(Black Bear, Yellow Wind Sage, Yellow Brow, Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master and the Bull King) along with Erlang Shen leading the Celestial Court's army to wage war against Sun WuKong and committed genocide towards beings(mostly monkeys) on Mount HuaGuo. Sun WuKong was defeated due to the fact the spell of his Head Band was still on, and he knew he would never be free of it if he remained alive, thus he willed his own death in the end. And each of YaoGuai King was given a relic of Sun WuKong (the 5 sense of the Great Sage) after his death, yet Erlang himself took the memory(the essential part of the 6th relic, Mind) of WuKong and hid it in his 3rd eye. and murdered two Celestial Soldiers who witnessed it(this can be read in Erlang's Journal). Gods and buddhas understand the undying nature of the stone-monkey, and they knew after a time for reincarnation, another monkey would return again and again, thus they orchestrated the Project Destined One, to guide the Destined One(what player is playing, the reincarnation of Sun WuKong) to beat the 5 Yaoguai Kings and take back 5 out of 6 sense because to their knowledge and natural order, the 6th sense aka the Mind would perish and dissipate away upon one's death, thus they could have a new Monkey King with all the might of the Sun WuKong, yet lack his memories and his rebellion nature, to be put on the Head Band, to submit and serve the Celestial Court and LingShan (the bad ending). But under the help of Maitreya Buddha(the Baby Buddha, aka the Buddha of Future), Yuan ShouCheng(the old man who guided the Gourd, told the Destined One about the hidden Loongs, and taught the Destined One the fire circle spell) and Sun WuKong's old master(the one who taught the keeper of Black Wind Mountain two spells and told him to teach the Destined One when he's arrived), if the Destined managed to pass all the tests Erlang Shen had arranged(his brothers: The White cloak Snake Guai in Chapter 1; the yellow robe boar in Chapter 2; the hooded guy who lead the Destined One in the secret watermelon field in Chapter 3; the guy with lots of arms on his back leading the Destined One to Purple Cloud Mountain in Chapter 4; the Axe Bull guy in Chapter 5 leading to the secret birth of the Red Boy) and discovered all the secrets in each Chapter, Maitreya Buddha would open a gateway for the Destined One to where Erlang Shen was hiding all these centuries, the MeiShan. There, the Destined One must face his final test to fight against Erlang Shen, who would actually force the player to gain the full power of Sun WuKong, and strengthened by Erlang Shen(practice by fighting the 4 Great Celestial Kings, and molded by fire), when the Destined One triumphed, Erlang would then return the Memories of Sun WuKong to the Destined One. Thus when the player past the final test given by the Great Sage himself in the end, Sun WuKong's Mind would return and opened his eyes before being crowned by the Head Band, foreshadowing the failure of the Celestial Court and LingShan.
whoaaa this was good info man thank you. I was definitely there for the ride enjoying whatever and wherever it was taking me. I was so excited to see what was next
AvenueX has a series on Black Myth Wukong where she explains the characters, cut scenes in reference to the original story of Journey To the West, history and culture. It will all make more sense. And you will have a better understanding of why Erlang Shen helps Wukong free himself, etc etc. Knowing the back story of these characters and their motivations will make you appreciate the game even more.
This game surpassed all expectations and truly showed the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5. My 4090 was put to the test. I'm very much looking forward to the DLC. In my opinion, Black Myth Wukong should win Game of the Year.
@@Grandtemplar305 It probably won't get nominated to be honest if we go by the Golden Joystick nominees and that's fine. Those awards are decided by the same panel as the metacritic reviewers so they are totally American/British centric and not as "international" as they pretend to be. There are enough livestreams and reactions from film and music producers by now to know this game's quality outside the gaming industry.
In that 2nd cutscene. The actual "God" is the boss of the 3rd level Yellow brow transformed. He had a bet with the previous incarnation of Wukongs master, where he wanted to show the greed of humans. The guy that attacked him was actually hypnotized and you can see that he was pulled forward. At the end it was wukongs master that sat down and talked to the "corpse".
Picked it up over the weekend on PC and I have a fairly mid PC (5700x3d 6700xt) but loved this game, manage to get decent frames at 1440p after tweaking the settings. I gotta agree the boss battles are so good!
I didn't find the combat repetitive at all because of the many spells and transformations. In fact it felt overwhelming at times to remember what tools I had during intense boss fights
The scenes and fight locations were like WTF! I never expected to fight a Praying Mantis! That was one tough little bugger!!! I played on PS5 and it was ok. I’m not a performance snob so as long as it doesn’t stutter to much or freeze up I’m ok with it. I do feel this game was pushing the PS5! My biggest problem was camera angle in boss fights! The camera killed me more than gravity. People saying this is Souls like game are incorrect. A lot of invisible walls that don’t let you fall to your death and you keep your experience when you die. This should be game of the year in my opinion!
I felt like My PS5 was being pushed the same way some games last gen pushed the PS4 at the end of the gen. Maybe UE5 is taxing. But I really tried to put all that to the side and just enjoy the game and man was it amazing
yessssss its was the best game I have ever played and its live up to the hype bosses fights were amazing i really enjoy because same game playing year after year and then boooommmmm waukong came and kick all of the games at least last five years the same games coming but the wukong is the classic ever lots of love from Pakistan
Short answer, did it live up to the hype. Yes, yes it did. And it is worth playing the game multiple times. Also know that it is not a game for everybody, but if you put in the time to learn it is an absolute treasure.
I had performance issues on my PC once in awhile too and I have good rig. It was kinda weird the performance was great like 90% of the game for me but sometimes it would just fall on its face. Great game though it wasn't bad enough to make me not wanna finish it. The invisible walls and no maps are my biggest complaints.
The one thing i never really liked about souls games is that its almost impossible to beat a boss without dying at least a couple of times when you encounter him for the first ever time, this doesent have to be the case in BMW, since the skill ceiling is much higher because of the fulfilled but still simple state of combat. You are stronger than the bosses, they still beat your ass heavy if you are not focused, while in souls (except Sekiro tbh) they will almost certainly kill you before you learn their patterns and attacks. Im not a fan of literally downloading the boss before you beat him, feels unfair for me in the beggining, and then unfair for the boss in the end
Personally, Wukong feels like Wo Long or Nioh a little more than the Norse GOW games. I definitely wouldn't call Wukong a Soulslike either way. The gameplay is too different to be as such. It IS a challenging game, though, so buyer beware, Souls games are not the only games that are difficult. Anyways, I had fun playing the game. I don't know if I would rate the game as high on a pedestal as others I have seen, but it is definitely a great game to play. The fact this is a game based on something else other than the Three Kingdoms era is already a huge bonus already. The fact it is a mature take on JTTW made me want to play it. And I feel your confusion as having a decent level of familiarity with JTTW and other variations of the story would've helped clear up aspects of the plot. It is quite rewarding once you see what GS did with the source material, because clearly alot of thought was put into it, such as the Yellowbrow MV you were trying to figure out. Even then, there are aspects of the lore that is still vague, so there is still plenty of theorizing such as who is the old monkey. Not a fan of how you are left hanging over a certain sidequest in chapter 4, though. With the gameplay itself, even with the simple light combo inputs, I enjoyed the combat alot, particularly when going against bosses. I love how the lore was implemented into the gameplay, and I don't just mean the spells, which were definitely adapted very well. Finding items or abilities in secret areas to help defeat the final boss of the chapter is actually something Wukong did in the books when encountering a challenge. I wish the invisible walls weren't so blatant, as that has at times made me more lost than necessary, but even then I am one of the people who is fine with not having a map to explore. And while not the most difficult boss in the game, the final boss is definitely one of the most memorable fights thanks especially to that final phase. The sage oozed with personality, complete with disrespect when you play too recklessly. Of course, can't forget the secret boss in chapter 3. Part 1 of the fight was the most challenging fight in the game, while part 2 was cinema. And all this from a company who had never made a triple A level game before in a nation that isn't known to make triple A level games in the first place. I wouldn't call Wukong an all time favorite game personally, but even then what GS did was huge in so many ways. It is why I have hopes for another Chinese game, Phantom Blade 0. Glad you loved the game.
I too get tired of everyone comparing every action RPG to Dark Souls. I've even seen people compare Final Fantasy 16 to Dark Souls and I'm like "Just because you can dodge roll in a game doesn't automatically make it Dark Souls." As for this game, this game far exceeded the hype in my opinion. The intro sequence is just spectacular. It gets so you hyped up to play the game. And then when you play, the game doesn't hold you back at all. It pulls no punches, and you will die, A LOT (and that's ok). I loved the little special interactions they put in certain boss fights if you do certain moves, like if you use Rock Solid against one of the tiger bosses he says "That's my brother move, how did you!?" And a lot of the side quests also had good subtle story telling, like the Fox quest from chapter 3 tying into the Chapter 2 ending. This game is just amazing. 10/10, get this game, you won't be disappointed. Be prepared for a challenge though. If you're looking for an easy game, this game is not for you. If you're looking for a fun challenge, which most of the boss fights feeling unique, then this game is for you.
I don't have PS5 but I heard people say balanced mode actually works better than performance mode. If you have not maybe worth a try. But overall yeah PS5 is struggling. I played on a basic spec PC with very few issues. Also you got the chapter 2 anime wrong. At end you see the skeleton of the monster/god sitting on the beach talking to a monk. The skeleton is the yellow brow, boss of chapter 3. Monk is JinChanZi, Wukong's master in JTTW novel. They had a bet and yellow brow tuened himself into that creature and went to mortal realm to prove humans are greedy and not worthy of salvation. If you watch carefully you'll see the dagger man's collar pulled by a force before he started charging. Yellow brow did all these to justify his own deeds in chapter 3 of turning Buddhism into a cult. Even his 4 disciples(non-void/non-able/non-pure/non-white) are named as the opposites of those of JinChanZi's. Because he desperately needs to prove selfishness rules. The other thing to mention here is the story is not about JTTW but what happened 500 years after. You need the knowledge of JTTW and some other related works to fully understand the game. But there are tons of tiny stories in the game journal that can help you to understand. Just most will never bother to read them. But overall this game is made for fans. How much one enjoys is up to how far one goes.
Lol i played this game 112 hours now or a little less than thay cuz some of em were just me pausing the game then continueing, i dunno if that adds to player time in game. But i never experienced any lags crashes or stutters in my playthrough. On new game plus now.
Honestly for me it was one of the worst investments I made 🤦🏽♂️ one it have a stamina bar which i dislike in my games second no NPC doing they daily activities third it was just boring the beginning had me hook but once i started playing I realize it was a rush boss fight game not saying is a bad game just not a game for me im more of a open world type of guy seeing npc living they life maybe im just a causal player work be having me drained
with 28 millon copies sold for wukong then some of them already trying to play dark soul and elden ring because they feel more confident now after finished wukong.
I started the game on my PS5 and quickly decided to just get it on my PC instead. The difference in quality is clear. No regrets. Completed the game 3 times so far. One of my all time fav games perhaps top 3. ❤
Restart a new game ,use the see through mechanism and rock solid spell bro, face your weakness, you won't feel repetitive at all, you missed a lot of fun.
@@GrizzlyBeardHero I kinda agree the 5 light attacks combo is a bit repetitive, and with a spear its 4 lights combo. However, if u get used to use varied combos, that’s when the real fun hits. With smash stance, light + light + heavy (see-through window) + light + heavy (see-through window again) + heavy (resolute strike), and keep on. This way the protagonist fights super aggressively with a very unique parry system. With thrust stance, light (+ light) + heavy (retreat, see-through window), then u can follow this with several different paths to continue the combo, but i wont go into details cause too much typing. This way the protagonist fights super defensively with a distance controlling mechanic. Pillar stance is the most interesting one. Its good for chasing, AOE, distance control, ground dodging, and with rock solid spell it actually has a weaker parry system comparing to the former two stances. Black Myth Wukong has quite some depth with its ACT aspect. But i see lots of people finishing the game without getting to know about it, especially in many reviews. Maybe people assume its a souls-like so they just naturally dodge dodge and smack smack. Maybe its the game's own fault, letting people get through all bosses without forcefully learning those combos. Maybe people think it just doesnt matter... anyway, I just wish more people can experience the fun of super amazing fights, they are ones of a kind in my opinion
I am playing it now and I will cover it. So far it is great but it is also more of a linear style game so it makes sense/ Black Myth Wukong has a ton of more things happening on screen
Loving the game as well but yeah 100 % relate to the stutters on PS5. They're infrequent for the most part, but it is annoying. In addition had TWO full lock-up/crashes (not even reportable) during a long session las night. In @60hours playtime I've had 7-8 full crashes, which is pretty bad.
This ppl keep talking about Souls games like they are good, we don't need to lose our sanity it's much better when game it's made just like Wukong to not lose anything for example after dying
Having completed the game weeks ago and achieved platinum, I can confidently say that this game most definitely has souls like elements in its gameplay (fact is, I wanted a refund after Wandering Wight, but Sony refused). Having played a vast majority of Souls games, every single trademark is there. The only argument against it being of that genre (and a weak argument at that), is that you can pause here. In every other respect, it’s a souls like. I decided to go back and play it at NG+4 last night and sure enough, like a Souls game, every single boss has artificially inflated health & damage. I like the concept of Wukong: God of War in China. That was their biggest marketing point. I wish the developers had been honest and mentioned or showed that their game is a souls like. Or better yet, like Lies of P last year, release a free demo so the consumer can reach their own decision
This is just a really weird take. There are a lot of superficial similarities (shrines, healing flasks, emphasis on bosses) but more importantly, Black Myth Wukong is very different from souls games in the aspect that is most defining for an action game: its combat. Wukong’s combat is very different than that any souls game. I agree it’s not as similar to God of War as some are making it out to be, but it’s still far more similar to recent iterations of that franchise than any FromSoft game.
I love the game but thier is one problem it has in my opinion when a game doesn't have difficulty setting and only has one it's challenging but when you start a new gameplus and you have everything leveled up this game tends to feel dry cause you one shot boss or 2shot and the challenging goes alway. My opinion they should have added difficulty setting. But I love it still. Can't wait for more.
Definitely one of the best games in the last 5 year's! 🐵 👊 🙏
100000% yes. Souls like = GOTY

enjoy the game :)

greatest game ever
Too far still great but idk goat
Not even close. Game of the year for me though.

It actually is

Hell yeah! Hard, but I had a great time🔥
Its a Pixar cinematic action RPG, with elements of god of war, sekiro, ghost of tushima, elden ring, onimusha, ect. You name it
The combos sometimes differ depending on the weapon you use
waking is one of the all time favourite love from Pakistan
Yes, yes it does live up to the hype!

The answer is yes, and why it made over a billion dollars
I still don't understant why are people comparing this game to a souls game, this is more akin to devil may cry 5
definitely not a souls
It most certainly is not similar to dmc5
More like god of war
No not dmc 5 this take impressions from gow
As a souls fan, I don't think it's a souls like, and that's good. Not everything needs to be a souls game
Chapter 6 map looks like incomplete. But even so it is a miles better game than the other AAA’s
I didnt like it

GOTY easily... On a par with elden ring
with 28 millon copies sold for wukong then some of them already trying to play dark soul and elden ring because they feel more confident now after finished wukong.
did u fight Erlang shen?
yes
Did you say games can’t be run on these devices?!
UE5 is very demanding I was referring to that
Bro, this performance issue was patched weeks ago. There is no stutter on my PS5 Slim. Maybe, you just need to clean your PS5.
bro lol
Yes it did
Same
Yes it did.
Love this game, second only to SOTE for GOTY this year for me
I started the game on my PS5 and quickly decided to just get it on my PC instead.
I had a lot of fun with it if you watched the video lol. I was talking about the 4 hit combo that felt repetitive at times
Maybe people think it just doesnt matter... anyway, I just wish more people can experience the fun of super amazing fights, they are ones of a kind in my opinion
have you played silent hill 2?how good is silent hill 2 performance on ps5?
I am playing it now and I will cover it. So far it is great but it is also more of a linear style game so it makes sense/ Black Myth Wukong has a ton of more things happening on screen
F.....k yes it did goty hands down
Loving the game as well but yeah 100 % relate to the stutters on PS5.
I had 69hrs. I say it does
Having completed the game weeks ago and achieved platinum, I can confidently say that this game most definitely has souls like elements in its gameplay (fact is, I wanted a refund after Wandering Wight, but Sony refused).
U hate the game so much yet ur on NG4+?
I love the game but thier is one problem it has in my opinion when a game doesn't have difficulty setting and only has one it's challenging but when you start a new gameplus and you have everything leveled up this game tends to feel dry cause you one shot boss or 2shot and the challenging goes alway. My opinion they should have added difficulty setting. But I love it still. Can't wait for more.
