- Get ready for all the laughs with the Godfather of Comedy in Hawaii…. Andy Bumatai! He is considered Lanai’s comedy sensei and helped him write his first 10 minutes of comedy, giving him a spot on his Island Comedy Showcase in Waikiki at the Don Ho Showroom. Andy was one of Hawaii’s first stand-up comedians to take his act on the road nationally! There has never been a comic force in Hawaii quite like him. He has opened for Tom Jones, Kenny Loggins, Natalie Cole, Lionel Richie, Paul Anka, Cool & the Gang, and Charlie Daniels. Andy has headlined at every major comedy club in the U.S. and even had his own shows in Las Vegas! We all probably remember him from the release of his TV special “High School Daze” and the classic “All in the Ohana.”

So glad Andy is still making us laugh! He is a big part of my happy childhood memories in Hawaii & so amazing that I got to see him live a few years ago in Fairfield, CA at Pepperbelly's. He talked to anyone who wanted to talk story after the show - so generous with his time. Much Aloha!

Great interview! Wayback in the day, are used to take ANDY out to varies high school pep rally‘s of which I would be the emcee. And then, I would announce to the students that I brought Hawaii‘s first standup comedian, And then, would introduce Andy while at the same time turning on my cassette player to record his performance in front of a full auditorium. The laughter would be thunderous! And then I took his performance, cut it into small bits and played it on my radio show on KKUA. Listeners loved it, and would request it as much as they did one of the top 10 records of the day!

When we moved to Kaua'i back in 1981, Andy was the very first comedian I had ever heard. I was watching tv one day and High School Dayz came on, I was instantly hooked! His videos and the daily pidgin live show give me a place to go to clear my mind from daily stresses and struggles.

You guys should have Frank Delima on; if not, Da Braddahs or Augie T. (I don't know about you guys, but I thought that Andy's "Rodney Dangerfield" impression kinda sounded like a famous Hollywood actor: Sylvester (Sly) Stallone, you know "Rocky" and "Rambo.") I saw a brief clip (5 minutes, out of 50 minutes) of "Sparks" - on Ulu
Ulu (online), along with Andy Bumatai and the late Tremaine Tamayose.. I like Sam Kinison... Mitzi Shore (Comedy Store owner) impression is hilarious. (the Weasel's mom (Pauly Shore). "the George Carlin school of writing.." - Andy Bumatai; the nightclub model (I think that Andy meant a "Showroom" in Waikiki (Waiks) )

I love brook but she just doesn’t bring much to the podcast. It seems she just interjects a comment trying to get a word in. Maybe it’s lanai being the main host and person asking the questions where he dominates the show but either way, it seems she is there to just heap the compliments to the guests.
