If Rakim is not in your top two, then what ever you rank him at is where your level of Hip Hip is at. You cannot rank The G.O.D of Hip Hop at less than numeral uno.
This killed it. Thank you for the great questions, follow-up, and providing them space to answer questions. It drives me nuts when the interview wants to be the focus not the interviewee.
Rakim and Nas are too hip hop what Shakespeare is too English literature. I literally laugh when they are not mentioned as the best ever. People usually name some overrated deceased rappers, who couldn't hold a candle to those two men. But, for those who have vision, let them see.
Armando Ramirez yeah unfortunately that's the young generation. Wayne can be wack a lot, but he isn't the worst imo. Check out his Intro track on DJ drama quality Street music 2. That joint is hard.
The Imperial Greatest Ever to flow...Thanks to GOD for delivering the "GOD" Rakim Allah to us during our time. Too deep for the ocean is this man's contribution to Hip-Hop & Black Culture.Brought us modern day scriptures of reality. Much Love Ra!! Ever since he shared that #EricB memory with us of them getting into a fight at a show back 'n tha day... we found out... Ra got a sense-of-humor. It was so refreshing to see him smile then.
This interview tells a lot about what some of knew at the time pre and post of what was going to happen in rap. Growing up in this era and being Black all these rappers were saying what most of Black youth at that time in which we are the same age were thinking yet they were blessed with the ability to rap about it. I have a friend who is white who is a connoisseur of rap said he listened intently to try and understand what our expression as Black people was. The reason I bring this up is that white people are delving more and more into what most of us Black people already knew and that it is a movement and that the message does not get lost by turning him into just a poetic genius rather and speaker for his people.
The elders in my family, The elders in tha 'Hood, used to always tell us "[they] are *fascinated* with Us." As a little girl, I'd be like "Why? [they] got all the $$." Then they'd reply to that with "How did they get it? Do u know the history of this country?" Then the lesson would begin... ...never forgot what 1 elder shared in analogy: "U see the bully in school... that bully only targets a 'certain' type to harass; he doesn't expect the bullied to physically fight back or lyrically fight back. But when he does! *It's* caught off guard, taken by total Surprise! The bully gotta study 'THAT' , so he'll know 'what to do' better to Come At his desired target again." #strategy Thus, [their] 'fascination-in-study' can feel a tad wearisome at times. Anything material they want, they Take: land, ppl, organs, etc. Google... But [that's] STILL NOT satisfying enough for them... [they] want to Take Your #Magick too! But somehow, I just don't think that *that's* spiritually possible. Any [stolen object] changes *its* frequency soon as *its* displaced. ...think I did a video on this topic...? ...let me check....
Did u peep 'that'...? Won't use the adjective #Dame said #CultureVulture... but because [they] lack soul , [they] are hell-bent on believing that *"U"* had to have pre-meditated *tha Magick!* NO! We don't! *It* just comes to *us.* Once [they] study #Melanin and *what having a Surplus of It* denotes, they'd cease asking these redundant robotic rote questions. ...hopefully...sigh.
I love Rakim for the sake of Allah I Pray He and all of the 5% Nation take Shahada and embrace Islam as it was practiced by the last Prophet of Allah Muhammad (PBUH) before transitioning to the here after "before called to go back to the essence/ there's alot to learn so I study my lessons."
There's a documentary for him on here, YT. Ironically, both were born in the same month, and have the same gift # : "6" . But the latter #50Cent adopted the handle in homage...he wrote about 'it' in his memoir.
That's why the rap game is fu*ked up...Cats that don't read books/ proud of it/ refuse to think on a higher level/ respect the craft, nor challenge the listener are passin' dumb sh*t on to their people. And the people love it, 'cause they don't know better. Well, they know better, but prefer to give wack MCs' a pass 'cause the beat is hot...duuuuhh...
Not just an icon, Rakim is a landmark that cannot be removed from the landscape of hip hop.
