  • My friend and colleague, Frank Avruch, is the interviewer. Abe was known for a number of roles, most notably, his portrayals of Salvatore Tessio in The Godfather and Phil Fish in Barney Miller from 1975 to 1977 and Fish from 1977 to 1978.
Prior to his actual death in January 2016, Vigoda was a constant victim of celebrity death hoaxes.
Vigoda and Betty White, both 88 years old at the time, appeared in "Game," a Snickers commercial that debuted during Super Bowl XLIV on February 7, 2010. The synopsis made fun of the advanced age of the actors. The Super Bowl Ad Meter poll respondents rated the ad the highest of any shown during the game.

Abe was a hard working actor with integrity, something you don't see today. RIP.

Fine actor Abe. I wish Barney Miller could have went on forever and the guys stayed the same age. RIP Sir.

I’m convinced they just followed him around with a camera for Fish.

If they did a screen test for the Tessio role, I wish we could see it. He was tops.

He was a great actor. He was unforgettable in the "Godfather". He also played in a TV advertisement for Ralph's supermarket chains as a butcher!!

If only we could have gotten him off the hook "for old time's sake".
      Can't do it, Sal.
