Good luck. It took me YEARS to buy mine back. HR, CPO, OPM and anyone else you need in order to get this done are unavailable. Most work from home and I have never had them answer or return my calls. All the information and forms are available online, but mailing forms off and hearing nothing is frustrating. I mailed my request at least 30 times before finally hearing from someone.
Good Video. You should do a National Guard / Reserve video with a 20+ year retirement. I think the rules are a bit different when buying your military time.
I second a follow-up for Reserve/Civilian retirees. I bought back 13.5 years and can now "double dip" after 60 with a Reserve retirement at 38% and with 13.5 years of service credit added to my civilian career. I hope everyone understands how this works. The payback is almost instantaneous.
PLEASE THIS! When I goto the FERS retirement calculator... there's a button about "am I collecting retirement...now". If I keep it unclicked (I wait till I'm 60 because I retired reserve) it says I will have 46yrs of gov service, if I click the button I only show as 24.
Paid back 12 years of military service, plus retired in the Army Reserves. I'll be doing good when I retire as a USPS employee under FERS in 13 years. 👍
Make sure you get your "paid letter" into your eopf. I waited almost a year and called 3 times to get a copy of the letter, then figuring it out how to get it entered into the record.
My agency human resource must be good. It was on record about one year. I printed it out and put it on the cloud. That's 7% for life with cost of living adjustments was $2,015. I paid the national finance center one time check. My break even point was only months. Great Deal
Yeah - I served 10 yrs in the 80s, then started my federal job late 90s. I bought back my military time as soon as I was hired on full-time and chose to do payroll allotments. This was when my regional HR was in Seattle...they eventually closed that office and moved to Salt Lake City. Somewhere in the move, they neglected to put the letter of payment in my records, which I didn't realize until 6 months before my retirement. I couldn't figure out why my retirement SCD did not match my payroll SCD. I ended up needing to send (digital) copies of all my L&E Statements and other documents to Human Services to prove that I paid in full and never got a letter at the end. It was down to the wire, but I wasn't going to let them NOT count my 10 years of service and get a smaller pension! ugh...I told all the new folks in my office to check their eOPF files often and make sure everything is in there.
I bought my military service time. What does this do besides help me with annual leave and sick leave? 5 years 3 months and 26 days, 6 months TSA and 5 years Federal time.
Great question. It will affect your pension in retirement and your creditable years of service. Here's a video with more information about that: ua-cam.com/video/jP6Tn52a458/v-deo.html&pp=ygUxaGF3cyBmZWRlcmFsIGFkdmlzb3JzIHdoYXQgZG9lcyBtaWxpdGFyeSB0aW1lIGRvZQ%3D%3D
I am currently trying to see if I can buy my time back as a PRDL at 30% with 13.5 years of service. No one can give me a clear answer. After 33 years of being around the Army, it’s what I expect. Incompetence
I am afraid to buy back my military. I keep hearing all these stories of people buying it back and then don’t get credit for paying it? I only had 4 years but 30 years ago. Wish I had a ballpark figure of the amount owed? Also I heard you can pay it in full from your TSP when you retire.
Afraid to have 4 extra years added onto your service computation date and 1% each year of military service that will be added onto your pension income? It’s basic math. You should be more afraid NOT to

What to do first?
Retire from the Navy reserve first?

Bot.. that probably cost a pretty penny. I owe 8k for just under 10 years but it will pay itself back in less than 1 year

Thanks again for your time 😊
My pleasure 😊
Good period of instruction as usual thanks
Glad to help
You can only buy back your active duty service time btw
So if i was on active duty for 8 yrs then me buying me back the 8 yrs won't add to 16 federal service

Whats PRDL?

I’ve been a federal employee for 18 years and got out of the military in 1991. Was in 6.5 years. I hope I don’t have to pay a ton of interest
You’ll be paying 15 years of interest. The first 3 years fed time are interest free I believe. Why would you wait 15 years is the magic question.
@@terrylantz2831 why not?
@@terrylantz2831 you figure it out
@terrylantz2831 my guess is that nobody ever mentioned it. I found from other military at my gov job about it. HR doesnt always know much either.
@@rangerstyleisme correct. My HR team has been terrible getting this done no clue
