Thanks for posting this! Just yesterday I was thinking it was time to repeat a loop I did many years ago with my oldest son. The loop included Top Of The World, Little Dolores Overlook (a fun ride), Rose Garden Hill, and Onion Creek. Rose Garden looks much worse than it did back then. It was steep with a few 3-4' ledges, but I recall nearly that many huge boulders. I don't think my younger kids (college age) would be happy if I took them there.
in 2010 I did it with my son, I was on an XR650R and he was on an XR400, I bulldogged the XRR down a couple ledges but rode the rest. The hill has seen some traffic and rain since then. I just posted an Onion Creek vid before this one.
I didn't that trip although that was the reason for heading out there. Another rider had some bike problems right where you start up to TOW off the main trail. Ive been up to the top before, best view in Moab.
I've ridden down RGH a number of times. However, I've ridden UP Rose Garden Hill twice. Once on an my '93 Yamaha XT350 without dropping the bike. And once on my stock (except 4.7 gal tank, skid plate & handgards) '08 XR650L with the original dual sport tire that was balled. I went down (dropped the bike) about three time on the way up but made it to the top continuing the ride to Top of the World. The carnage of bikes and bodies everywhere going up was hysterical. But it is a nasty ride either way.
You have reaffirmed my commitment to not put this trail on my Moab Bucket List. It doesn't really look like a trail someone who say "boy, that was fun". I could see someone wanted cred by saying they did it but did they really like it. Having said that, it was fun watching you do it! :)
Unfortunately it's right between 2 great moab rides, Onion Creek and Top of the World, not going down RG Hill means they both turn into long out and backs. Most guys just bulldog the bike down which isn't too difficult considering where you are going.
when i rode that( some years ago) I was competing in trials and trials rode my ktm 450 exc down it the entire way.. very slowly, I dont remember if I dabbed or not.... nice work!
Thanks, I really didn't want to punch out a side cover or throw the 500 down in the rocks so I took the conservative approach glad I did too. The guy behind me ended up with his RFS upside down half way down the trail.
Nice work getting down that hill. I dont think there is a camera out there that offers the perspective hill challenges like that are due. Thanks for sharing.
The first time I encountered Rose Garden Hill, I was coming up from the bottom and I had not been there before. I attempted to go up part of it and then quickly learned how all those big chunky rocks and off-camber slopes were no match for my skills on my Yama WR250R. That kind of stuff is never especially fun-- it's really best for Jeepers to have bragging rights. ...not sure why you took the far left side by that tree or bush, but it looked like you were thinking there was a smoother line there, found that step down instead, but ended up having to wisely walk the bike a bit there. Was there a big drop off ledge to the righthand route? I wonder if you would have been as timid on your KTM 300?
That was the MC line going down, the guy behind me attempted to stay on the trail at that point and ended up with the bike upside down, it wasn't pretty

It's amazing how much the GoPro flattens things out! That's a nasty hill - I hope you rode Top of the World too

I have done both Onion Crk & ToW and it was inconvenient out & back.

riding smart, is a practiced art!

You're right Scott.
It can have a lot to do with where the camera is mounted.
I subbed see you on your next videos !

I've been there. Glad I had the CRF250X that day. Still walked down some ledges.
Been down it twice and it is a lot tougher than a Go-Pro tends to make it.
Definitely Mark
Looks like hamburger hill... only WAY longer!
