Native americans already invented freezer and refrigerator before those were cool
Before those were COOL! Haha 🤣❄
I see what you did there 🤣🤣🤣before it was cool.
I think it's important for people to be exposed to native communities and to not judge their way of life that they've been practicing for thousands of years.
Lots of things have been practiced for thousands of years that are well deserving of criticism?
@@umwha yeah but the question is that criticism Fair? People from the outside love to judge a practice they know very little about based on their own perceptions and history. Natives have been treated badly by the American people because of racist stereotypes. Why don't you start understanding and learning instead of judging.
@@juggaloclownpreacher I understand that native people have religious beliefs about various animals including whales. I know the material necessity of hunting in premodern environments. I know of the inuit concept of placing a carving in the likeness of a whale underneath a cannoe, the idea being that if the whale is pleased then it will allow itself to be hunted, knowing that its spirit will be reincarnated. I understand that native americans have been genocided and oppressed, and much of their culture has been lost as a result. Where, in all that, is anything that precludes criticism?
@@umwha The natives eating whale meat is only a taboo because of the insane whaling industry that drove the whales to near Extinction that was not done by the natives. So why are the natives being treated like they're part of the whaling industry?
@@juggaloclownpreacher That is not a criticism that I am making. I am saying that criticism of all culutres, including native american ones, should be encouraged, rather than this climate of patronising respect that minority cultures receive. The fact that certain things have been going on a long time is not an argument.
Idk y ppl would bash her for eating whale, YALL 👏DONT 👏SEE👏 CHICKENS👏 OR👏 BULL👏 IN 👏THE 👏ARTIC 👏soooo... leave them alone tf
@Runningwolf Carson but they need more fat, caribou and reindeer didn't have enough fat for winter
You are totally clueless it’s funny how dumb people are
Kimberly Gonzalez also like wasn’t it white colonisers that hunted whales to near extinction so they need to take a seat
Vegans
They have seabirds and musk oxen and seals they can eat. And tons of fish and caraboo.
I like her point about a CERTAIN group of people not having anything sacred.
Rachel amber?
Atheists?
I think it’s amazing learning about Arctic life 😍
Trump GodKing how do you know that her house is better than the ops? Stop spreading hate when we are just trying to appreciate native cultures.
Holly Fici exactly 👍
Unfortunately global warming will destroy their community and their local environment. as well as many others too. and we have a president who thinks its a hoax🙄

That climate change destroys the arctic?
Or that Donald trump calls it a hoax?

I love your heart and humor, your intelligence, and your decency. Wonderful.
Love it sister. Do your thing. It's your continent
I feel like Native Americans in Canada an the US should have a regulated special privilege where ever they go, to be fair, WE Ddiid killed 95% of their ppl throughout history... so giving them like discounts and stuff are the least the Govt can do. Not drive them to a impoverish reservation
Edit: ik some reservation are given monthly allowances in state of Montana, but my friends there said it is barely enough
Known fact: natives are brown/black people
@@ArtseyHayton06 I mean I guess the pigmentation of their skin colour, sure. But they are most certainly not from Arabia, northern Africa, or sub-saharan Africa, which is the common skin colour types in those regions which you mentioned in your comment. Then again, if we say that indigenous came from Asia so they're Asian, then we can say humans are African since we originated in Africa.
@@ArtseyHayton06 Does she look brown/black to you?
@@Mitchery nope

This is great! Although this is a short video, it still gives us a tiny taste of how vibrant and interesting our indigenous cultures truly are! We need more of this!
they eat whales..and so what? they dont kill them for sport like lions, giraffes, elephants...
For real, and they're getting just enough of what they need. They're not over hunting it like the colonizers.
@@maridatweeb3509 exactly!:)
Alaska represent!!!!!!!!!
We need more education on their culture. Some of us just don't understand. I really appreciate people like her.
I love videos like this. Very educational and wonderful! They value nature and their community. That’s the way it should be.
Peace .. respect, live, faith, and hope.
Thank you for educating, much appreciated
People tend to forget just how diverse the US is, in just one state such as Alaska there are several native groups like the Inupiaq, Aleut and Tlingit alongside Europeans and Siberians too. It gets even crazier on the mainland too. It important that their culture is preserved, a world with just one homogenous culture would be very dull and we'd lose part of ourselves.
I would love to visit a community in Alaska and try out the things you eat.
When the permafrost melts they are screwed
This is why we need to get the world behind clean energy. At least make it multiple times easier to utilize.
@@TommyElijahCabelloReal yes but it is still not enough we have to reduce meat consumption, change the ways we travel and actively pull co2 out of the atmosphere (basically planting trees) but right now we are doing none of these things and that is disturbing
Permafrost won't thaw if the climate stays how it should instead of moving at break-neck speeds.
nah karen will be like : CLIMATE CHANGE IS HOAX!
You are clueless. The permafrost will not melt. That is climate fraud propaganda you fell for.
What a great point; “do you not hold anything sacred?”.
How the people live in North America's arctic fascinates me
The food, the region, and how they live and hunt is so seperated from the modern world.
No...I hold nothing sacred,ButI know that you doAnd that is enough for me.
Hella cringe content on tik tok, but this is worth something 👍
I'm Indigenous and I keep my culture sacred and private.. others will always try to exploit our culture for their selfish greedy ways and attention.. if someone's curious and wants to know I'll open up to them directly about whatever question they may have.. otherwise I just want to be left alone in peace and not be bothered like a hummingbird
I'm Inuit from Nunavut of Canada and we do daily get bashed by settlers too and today I watched some youtuber pinpointing and calling us careless about our health and eating. While showing only the pictures of 1800's in Nunavut. He said it the most friendliest way possible but we know what lies behind how they say it and use the sentences out of it.
heh, just read a comment here that desribes exactly what you said
she’s beautiful
Amazing Thumbs Up
So cool and such beautiful people
Her taste in music is fire
Long live and bless all native Americans and all indigenous peoples of the world. They are the guardians of the land and the ocean. We all should learn from them.
I don’t know who this woman is since I’m not on Tic Tok, but I love her!!! Indigenous people are badass!
This is one aspect of social that does not get touched on. Education.
I'm Meherrin longhouse woman that's right show your pride
What I've always learned is where there are humans involved the truth always somewhere in the middle.
It's the legal right of certain people to do certain things, but for the good of all should they still? That applies to all of us. Where ever we live.
I think u guys are beautiful.keep ur traditions alive. It an inherit treasure.inuit never animal to extinction like some others

This is awesome.
Great video, really, but Eagle River isn’t in the Iñupiaq region. It’s a suburb outside of Anchorage. Just being a nit picky hater but great vid 😊
Mvto!!! Thank you for sharing! It is so sad for people who think they have a right to assault those sacred parts of the indigenous and all communities. So much has been taken away and stolen from these peoples and yet today society thinks they have the right to continue. Get educated and mind yall business. MMIW still a thing, avoid using The term “Savage.” Thank you again for your education!

Eskimos invented lots of things that Amerindians, Europeans, And Metis aka Mestizos often get credit and recognition for
Hey, just so you know, Alaskan Natives don't like being called the E slur.
@@SilentGlaceon94 I was saying it in the context, concept, or and construct as a blanket term for Inuits And Yupiks not as a racial slur that Amerindians And Europeans use to do a long time ago
Bowheaded whales are an endangered species, despite her FALSE claim that the population is not in jeopardy. They are one of the few whale species that reside almost exclusively in Arctic and subarctic waters experiencing seasonal sea ice coverage. She literally shared a CONSPIRACY THEORY.
nope try again.
@@IrresistibleWitch he's correct. Subsistence hunting isn't going to put the animals in jeopardy, but they really are endangered. Mainly by illegal Japanese hunting practices who sell the meat commercially. Which is not a practice if Inuit. They hunt for their food.
Sooooo, it’s their fault that some dude in Japan is killing their main food source? Just say that you hate how the Inuit live or get over yourself.
I wanna follow this indigenous queen. I want to try whale now.
Whale... seal........... k
Okay... I'm from Alaska, specifically I grew up in Eagle River... It is not in the northern most region of the state. You guys really need to do your homework. I'm really tired of the rest of the United States regarding the people who are from here as nothing more than isolated crazy people. Come on guys! You have all of Google at your fingertips. You couldn't have just looked up Eagle River on Google earth?
Calm down I understand they made a mistake but you don't have to go overboard with it
Hahahahaha. That bothered me too, because I lived in Nunam near Emmonak for awhile, and I thought Eagle River was somewhere else....but I didn't worry over it because I figured she was just using a place name that is common. Like Bear Creek. There's thousands of Bear Creeks in America.
@@1985toyotacamry it's kind of a big deal though when the lady is claiming to be from Eagle River.
Homie lives in Eagle River, but was raised in Barrow/Utqiaġvik. It's not like she has a sigluaq in Eagle River either.
Why tik tok tho. Isnt that cancerous?
3:03 SENT XD.
She was born in LA and moved to Alaska and now Native American?
You dimwit. Being native american won't change no matter where she is born, first off. That's in her DNA. Secondly, LA is in America. So she still is native by birth. Third....did you even hear that accent? That's straight up Alaskan.
Get your brain washed.

the privilidge is screaming in some of these folks. I tasted whale in Japan, where they are allowed to hunt them during season. I kinda panicked a bit when I saw their meat but I remembered they are mammals
Yes tik tok is a cool app but the simple fact that its controlled by the chinese gov directly makes me hate it....

Justifying taking animal life in the name of tradition and culture. Same way goats are slaughtered on Eid. That makes no sense!!
There's no way to farm up there and groceries are very expensive. I dare you to try it before you judge. I did.
more like to survive? what do you eat the snow and ice? I don't think you live there
Let me explain it one more time. ITS A BEAUTIFUL CELEBRATION OF NOT ONLY HERITAGE BUT ALSO THIER SURVIVAL DUMBASS
I’ve witnessed many whale hunt ceremonies in Point hope and other communities living here and people bless the whales soul for giving them nutrients. And then they cut it to feed their family and neighbors. Not a single part is wasted. Not a single soul goes unfed by the ceremony. Why don’t you study it then bash it. SMH
thats an easy way to hide a body
Finally a decent story from this horrible “news” outlet
Cultural Appropriation. Either you American or you Native American.
@Julie Flores-Rivas I can say it in Chinese if you prefer..
@Julie Flores-Rivas Be American, Be American. Be Native then be Native. Cannot watch Netflix all Day on Cell phone then go hunt Whales and call Native American card.
NowThis loves Chinese communist controlled Tik Tok
Dont hunt Bowhead. Well DO YOU See ANY PiGs OR COwS?????????
Oh they're zealious. Asian looking people, Oriental people culture civilization technology science product wealth power look are best.
I fully applaud your cultural representation and expressions of life. But know that eating whale meat is not mainstream and widely accepted. Anything we don't understand, we revolt and this is not new.
Hunting them subsistently maybe fine environmentally, but you will receive hate regardless from vegans and vegetarians as with any other meat eater. Learn not to accept but expect it!
Personally, i despise anyone who hunts and kills animals for food because my culture does not teach that. I am proud that i respect animal's right to live while protecting my own. Please don't try and appear victimized when you eat victims for breakfast. Its just wrong, sacred or not, no matter what prayers you sing before the kill. If someone kidnaps your daughter, you will be hurt, regardless of any prayer singing. Good intentions do not mitigate deliberate harm!
Lmao this comment was hilarious. You don’t get to tell Native Americans what we can and can’t do. And if you think we’re bad people for our food sovereignty, you can shove it because I promise you we don’t care what ignorant people like you think.
@@831Trina Please read carefully before you speak. I never said what these hippies can or cannot do. My point is that killing animals has absolutely nothing to do with spirituality or sacredness. The criticism you squaws get is totally justified, when you kill animals for food and hide behind prayers. To imply singing prayers will give peace to hunted animals is lunacy.
You kill animals without care towards their lives and call others ignorant, when you are ignorant towards animals. You truly are shameless savages! Katrina go to your residential school and do some more learning!
@@aakashpss1171 Oh wow that amount of racism you spewed in two comments is astounding.
First and foremost, the words "sq*aw" and "s*vages" are racist slurs against Indigenous people due to their historical context in which they were, and are, used. If you continue using it after knowing this, you are a full-blown racist.
Second, just because you were raised to no eat animals or not to hunt them doesn’t make another culture, particularly an *Indigenous* culture, wrong. Many of these hunting practices and traditions are sustainable and have been for thousands of years. It wasn't until commercial whaling (introduced by the Westerns) came into the picture and ruined the population. You do not know the cultural context of these Indigenous hunting practices and traditions. Don’t go around and spew racist and ethnocentric statements. The practices you should primarily target are the modern factory farms. They cause significantly more damage to people and the environment than Indigenous hunting. Indigenous hunting has little to no impact on people and the environment. Factory farm does.
Third, residential schools? Seriously? Do you have any idea on how *damaging* those "schools" were to Indigenous people? Using it in an argument/debate is an extremely low-blow.
Wonderful video! Thank you!
