I have spent 62 yrs doing just that, right there I grew up on the gulf and have had 2 keelers that size or slightly bigger over the years. At one point we lived at Beachlands and my parents lived at Kikowhakarere bay I could sail from my house with wife and 3 kids to mum and dads then spend the weekend fishing diving generally kicking around and be home Sunday night for work the next day. Summer holidays were Great Barrier Kawau Corromandels etc. Well still are but kids are flash business people and wife prefers couch so its just me on the boat :) Something to try in that awesome Raven, they drift sideways in conditions like that and are very comfortable doing so, just lash the tiller right over the boat will do the rest then softbait from the stern two people can comfortably fish from the stern and one from the bow. My granddaughters fish with jigs from the cockpit (safer and still very effective) one granddaughter caught a 20lb snapper as a 6 yr old doing that not far from Te Kouma.
Wow that is so cool to hear. You must have an incredible collection of experiences and stories from your adventures! Sailing, fishing and diving NZ really is an amazing way to spend a life and were enjoying sharing our adventures. Hopefully it encourages a few others to get out there amongst it. Thankyou kindly for the tips. I'm heading out for a sail and fish today so il try this out. Cheers for your message and glad you enjoyed our video
@@MuddyFeet Yeah give it a go different boats have different ways but if you find the sweet spot for your boat then it is a great way to fish. I pretty much only softbait in my keeler occasionally around there though based in Whangaparoa these days I do get to corromandel about once a year in the boat. Its for sale at the moment though on TM (Nova 28).
