Filipino dad's too...and all the Filipino relatives. My grandpa had 7 kids every 10-11 months (with my dad's twin being stillborn). Grandpa was also a white soldier...stationed in P.I. after the Korean War. He had 2 wives...because he was a raging alcoholic, my father's mother left them after one of his bad PTSD episodes where he tried to kill her in his fugue. So my dad was home, helped her pack up, thinking she was taking him with her and she left him there to be responsible for his younger siblings...he was born 2nd. Wife #2, hung around for a long while, helped him through the PTSD.

Filipino moms will grab your ear and drag you to the location where you lost it.

Sir, JoKoy's stories are the same experiences we've had as a child.
The church scene is a realistic experience - all unruly children did received a pinch on their sides or behind, once in their in life as a child!!!
And for her LOLA (FILIPINOS no term for GRANDMA, I myself, was shocked to learn how our old folks - grand parents and their colleague, readily accept "DEATH".
During the wake of my grandfather in the province, I was shocked to listen to the conversations of our old folks. They even joke among themselves, who will pass away next.
On the hindside, I think, it is a better to accept that "death" is a real phenomenon that we will ALL experience. Being preparedand being vocal on this "issue" makes it easier for our relatives to accept the demise of a relative.
Am now 63, and my views on this issue is now clear. AM READY ANYTIME... WHEN MY LORD SUMMONS ME TO JOIN HIM... WITHOUT REGRET AND HESITATION, the next best thing to do is to COMPLY!!!

You are taught to do that as a baby, one of the first things taught to us. Not just to your grandparents or parents but to everyone who is older than you are. It's a sign of respect that is not just common to Filipinos but to most Asians.
