Really liked the idea of the debate but agree that there should’ve been more back and forth but this is definitely a great idea with the “forced stances”.

I liked this type of content being in the cookbook. Might be cool to know what side you're on ahead of time and preparing a little more

By the way, thank you Greg. I have been running your stronger by science last set to failure program and seeing very good results. Thank you for all you do! So far this is my favorite program ive run.

I enjoyed the battle royale. I would have liked to have seen more back and forth within the debate

Loving this type of content. I think the format should be like 3 mins opening from both sides, then 3 mins rebuttal from both perhaps or 2 mins, some sort of engagement. Also, I would say that because the audience of this channel is going to be significantly more educated on average on exercise science and adjacent topics the debate topics may as well be more difficult as well. I would reckon most people in this audience wouldn't make any of the propositions themselves.

Greg is 100.0000001% correct: Energy drinks and hot sauce: the companies just give up on flavour the more potent it is.

Love what you all do at SBS!! However, 1:43:40 - Greg mischaracterizes lipid & lipid soluble molecule digestion and absorption via oral consumption. Yes lipids are divided into micelles via bile in the small intestine. This allows pancreatic lipases to access and break down lipids. However, from there, the majority of lipids and lipid soluble molecules are not transported to the liver. Once absorbed via the intestinal cells, lipids are repacked into chylomicrons and transported into the lymph vessels for transport to the subclavian vein and systemic circulation, I.e. these molecules are seen by extra hepatic tissues first. Some lipids are absorbed as free fatty acids, and bound to albumin before going through enterohepatic circulation, I.e. seen by the liver first. It is obviously more complicated than this simplistic explanation I gave here, involving concepts such as fatty acid length, but gives a more accurate picture than is provided in the video.

Great episode! Maybe next one stick to 4 topics and allow rebuttals. Instead of randomly allocating, it would be really interesting to see what you guys could come up with after some research. Play an evidence based devils advocate.
    Ideas for future debate topics:
    - Do you have to grow bigger muscles to get stronger?
    - is improving eccentric strength is the best way to improve running economy?
    - Is Muscle mass more important than VO2 max for longevity?
Keep up the good work boys

I am a new listener, but I enjoyed the debate format. I strongly dislike debating/arguing myself, but at the same time, my internal monologue is always plagued by the question, "Am I missing something?" So being able to listen to informed people talk in a non-antagonistic way about debated topics is very nice.
Some general comments about the content:
-My school where I teach has debate, and with their format, they always have a short rebuttal time after each side gives their initial presentation. That might be a useful addition to fill out the topic a little more.
-I liked the moderator at the end giving an honest opinion/summary of the topic afterward.
-I liked your discussion after the "60 Minutes of Resistance Training for Health" about the varying merits and qualities of different types of studies. Sometimes people will cite studies as equal evidence when really the studies are fundamentally different types or of varying quality, and this can be confusing to someone like me who is not trained in structuring studies and research.
-Maybe try to be more concise/formal/professional with transitioning in and out of each presentation. (It's already a long podcast.)
-I am not an expert in rhetoric, but in my opinion, when framing your arguments, try to define the terms and parameters of your arguments. I felt a couple times like the two sides weren't really talking against each other; they were talking past each other. They weren't really saying anything that contradicted the other person; they were talking about other aspects of the issue.
-If you do this again, could you do the carbohydrate-insulin model of obesity versus the energy balance model (calories in, calories out)? Ironically, I have had this discussion with the teacher who is in charge of our logic and debate at our school, and we have differing opinions.
If you have read this far, thank you very much, and have a nice day.

Would be cool to see some topics that are more contentious within the evidence based community. Then you could prepare your stance based on the point made by certain individuals. E.g:
    - the importance of carbohydrates for hypertrophy (e.g. menno’s take vs most of the evidence based community)
    - volume cycling/Resensitisation
    - soreness or pump as a growth proxy

I can confidently say that I cannot overtrain. I’m currently at 50+ sets per muscle group per week. I have been for several months. It took 6-8 weeks to ramp up volume, to avoid ridiculous DOMS at such high volume. Since I adapted to the volume, I haven’t been sore for any reason besides poor programming, ie. pushing a chest day off and having 30+ sets in the next session 😅🤢 High volume has gained me 50+ pounds of decently lean mass in the last year and a half. My point is that more volume is recoverable, effective, and is certifiably fun af. I went from 150 to 200 lbs BW as a 22 year old guy over multiple bulking and mini cutting cycles. The progress is continuing to go hard af. No injuries with slow, “good” technique and using lots of stretched movements. Increase your volume. It’s worth it.

@gnuckols I check your sources less than other people's. You can sort of tell from the way they phrase things and approach things whether someone understands research methods and statistics. Lyle Mcdonald, I will fact-check everything he says.
But also, I wonder if people that don't understand research methods and statistics avoiding checking the sources may be a net neutral. Again, otherwise you end up with people like Lyle McDonald who won't even learn the basics required to interpret and critique the data/articles.

UA-cam comments section is the worst for discussion or debate. FB was a bit better, but still not a great place. Forums are usually the best, but it's pretty rare you find someone with sufficient reasoning ability and knowledge to generate an interesting debate.
