Ohhhhh Mr Herman!!!! I know who you are and I adore everything you ever composed and wrote the lyrics to. You’re our national treasure. Everyone should read your memoir it’s so happy. I’m glad to know from this interview that you wanted privacy instead of publicity. His lyrics are always brilliant with a grand message filled with optimism. Jerry Herman is the best elixir. Kudos, bravo and Mazel tov. Evidently the real credit goes to his mother. A charming sidebar. Those shows that the critics didn’t like….. shame on them. Milk and Honey, The Grand Tour, Dear World and smack and Mabel have the best songs and lyrics. Just a devotee’s opinion. The man who wrote “I AM WHAT I AM “ can do no wrong! Thank you Mr Herman for always brightening the day!

He and Sondheim always seemed to have an intense rivalry; Jerry the happy-go-lucky, showstopper old-school Broadway writer and Steve the complex, ultra-sophisticated writer of GENIUS musicals. Glad that they both were and are on this planet!

Jerry Herman will always be *my* ‘Sondheim.’

In another interview he said he didn't see Sondheim as a rival. More like another great composer, i think he used the word genius, but am not sure.

He is truly the best composer I know. Everything he writes has a powerful message of tolerance and joy.

Barbra's version of "Before the parade passes by" is spine tiingling. Her last note sends chills up the spine. Loved Jerry Herman's work. RIP Jerry.

Rosalind Russell did the first movie version not Lucy “

Russell filmed the play "Auntie Mame" not the musical "Mame".

Yes, and Rosalind was brilliant. Lucy was not Mame. Terrible casting mistake.

@@fobesq Who cares? I enjoyed Lucy! She was MAME and you can't prove otherwise because there is NO OTHER film version of the musical except that one! HA!!
