I did this before I purchased the Gelli plates from the gelli plate website. I mainly did it to see if it was something I wanted to invest in. I guess curiosity was a reason too. It is a really good way to see if you want to make the investment and it was fun to do too. Mine was bumpy too! That was fine because it was a neat texture. I had to run all over town to find glycerin. Even Walmart didn't have it. All in all a good experience. Highly recommended for those who want to try it. Thanks for doing this video I love watching your channel!
@chessviewofficial rite aid had some, but that was a while ago. Micheals has the real gelli plate in stock in the stores now. You can use a coupon to get one! I enjoyed the process of making one it was fun! Either way is fun to be honest!😊😂
Hello! I'm excited to learn more about making gellie plates. I made the permanent one but I have run into a problem with it- I'm constantly getting grains of gelatin on my prints - imagine a soft, mealy apple. I'm going to redo it (microwave it) and see if maybe I didn't have high enough heat when I added the hot water. Update: microwaving it and let it set up again made a huge difference! All better now.
Thank you for this video! I wanted to try one but did not want to purchase one because of the expense and the size was to big for me. I am going to make one as soon as I get thru with making cards for Valentines. Thanks again...
Hi fascinating. Love these kind of projects and I've been looking into getting a gel plate. So...$3,50 for gelatin powder + $14 for the vegetable glycerin through Amazon. That's CDN $ . So $20, & the gel press print plate is selling for $35 on Amazon 8" x12"...what to do?!
How many grams of gelatine into how many mililitres of fluids? There are places where "a box" of gelatine does not have the same measurement as in your country
I have vegetable glycerin. Is that different than what you used? Also what is the actual amount of gelatin you used? I have a jar not packets so I don’t know what size packets you used
Greetings from Italy! As you know we have different names for the ingredients you'r using. Cannot understand "knox unflavored gelatin" is what we use to make jelly which is "pectin" made out of apples or what we "call fish gelatin" made obviously with fish. Thanks
hi there...okay tried out the glycerin recipe and not sure what I did wrong...but mine won't set. it like Sandy geletin. I am going to try and heat it. just making sure I got this right. geletin INSTEAD of water at the beginning?
Not sure what Sandy gelatin is...do you mean that it's grainy? If so, then YES, you need to remelt it all and make sure the gelatine is dissolved. Please note it's GLYCERINE instead of water...and how long did you leave it to set? It does take a few hours.
Sure... and maybe another 1/2 pack of gelatin, if you have it... or decrease the water slightly. Sometimes gelatin varies between brands. Keep me posted!
i used knox...i was thinking maybe the size of the packets is different I got the mega sized box of 32 packs...so i will try...i will update with whatever works. Thanks for the help.
WhoRwe2B - I know you asked a long time ago but each packet of gelatine in America contains 1/4 oz. 1/4 oz is roughly 7.08 grams. I THINK but am not positive that your measuring spoons are a little different in Europe than ours but if it helps any, each packet in the US is 2.25-2.50 teaspoons of gelatine.
I had my pharmacy order me some liquid glycerin cause I could not find it anywhere.all the stuff together costed me only twenty dollars compared to buying one for forty dollars I live in Canada so everything is pricy lol.thank you for the video I'm going to give it a try
I made the permanent gelli plate, and noticed that in about 2 days, even though I stored it in a closed plastic box, sandwiched between 2 sheets of transparencies, the edges became hardened. Do you know how to avoid this?
Hi there. You mentioned two different prices for disposable versus permanent but I didn't catch anything or any ingredient different for one versus the other
The glycerine is a preservative that keeps the gelli plate mold-free indefinitely. Without it, the gelatin plate will degrade by drying out and eventually grow mold.
@@crafttestdummies thx for this tutorial! I tried both & my glycerin one didn't set. What did I do wrong plz? I followed the directions & measurements. TIA 😊
Flecks of paint from my first few pulls. I was unsatisfied with the plate, so I melted it in the microwave and re-poured it. They didn't effect the surface of the plate (Seen at mark 2:15)
For a non-US watcher, can you let me know the weight of the gelatine sachets, because my supermarket sells Dr Oetker, not Knox, and has weight in grams, and also confirm that a cup is about 240 ml (even in one conversion article, this is shown both as 225ml and 240ml - on the same page!). Thanks
Hi John - I'm so sorry nobody ever got back to you with this simple answer but in case you still would like to know - each of our packets of gelatine contains 1/4 US ounce dry weight. This is equivalent to 7.08 grams per packet or 2.25-2.50 in a US measuring teaspoon. Your teaspoon measures are probably slightly different to ours (I know when I lived in Australia it was different) but probably not enough to make a difference. A US cup is 236.6 mls liquid measurement. I hope this helps. :)
@@lillyfingers thanks it is very helpful, Christine. Can we buy Knox in uk? I have not seen it so didn’t know the amount in cups nor in oz nor in grams. This is very very useful. Thank you so much. A4 is what I wish to make . Did the gelatine get mouldy or did you add a preservative?

Usually glycerine can be found in small bottles in the cake decorating section of stores.

Using the surface side of the gel works for a smoother surface. Use an index card or business card to scrape off the foam before it sets.
I made mi e using this recipe and the gelli plate came out fine. Texture of the gelli plate is great.
Thank you so much! I messed up my first one and thought I'd seen how they can be heated and reused. And you said it in a couple of minutes!
That's just what I was looking for. Very straight forward. thank you!
Thank you! My son and I made one today and played around with it. Super easy and tons of fun!
I really enjoy your videos Jenny
Always fabulous thank you for putting in the time for us!
Thanks for this! I had previously only seen videos to make temporary plates. Can't wait to see your comparison video. TFS, Heather
Hi jenny, that was a very instructive video thank you. As was the comparison one. Keep them coming.
This is great! I’m wondering how the best way to store it
Gelli printing makes me think of my printmaking art class I took in highschool over 15 years(omg has it really been that long)
How would you adjust if you wanted to make a larger plate ?
Thanks so much for sharing ❤

How many oz on each package of Knox gelatin? I cannot find know near me and amazon charges $9.00 for it!!
I wonder if you could use agar?
Since it's seaweed, I guess so. But gelatin is the original recipe ingredient.
Can’t tell the process by the photos. Can you add video?
Hi there could u use this to make molds for cake decorations

Ciao!! Knox Gelatine is animal-based (collagen) Gelatine. Not fruit OR fish-based. Used to make jelly desserts usually, liken Jell-O. Auguri!
@@crafttestdummies it might be fish-based. Usually beef, but fish gelatine is also a thing. Definitely whatever you'd use to make jellies or aspic.

Hi, for users without access to a Wallmart store, how much gelatine did you use exactly? Here in Holland (Europe) we have totally different brands.

It seems the plate is "maturing" and drying out a bit. Why not just re-melt and repour?
😍 Loved your video!! I really want to try gel plates. Would offset ink work on this plate? Can I use Fabriano as well?
Hi, i don,t have loose gelatine, just the glasspaperlike version. Is that usable too? Thx for your answer.
Yes absolutely. But you'll have to look for a recipe elsewhere. Here in the US it only comes as granular.
My gelli plate is sticky and the brayer pulls up the paint...don't know what I did wrong....
Very nice. Thanks!!!
My gelli plate that I made with gelatin and glycerin got moldy eventually. I did use it several times before that happened.
Hi can you make gel plates without putting them in the refridgerator ? I want to make a large one and it won't fit in mine
She literally said you can put it on the window-sill, so yes!
Hi beautiful, how many gram of gelatine
I did not hear any measurements for glycerin. is it in place of water or added to water?
6 ounces or 2/3 cup
I believe the glycerin is added to water instead of alcohol.
Sorry if so does it last for ever or not
How do you store the permanent gel plate? Thanks!
I keep it in the container in which I made it, sealed with a lid.

Yes, and?
is vegetable based glycerine not as effective? It seems to be cheaper than the animal based. (via Amazon)
