  • I love the comments section, so much great feedback, but this time one piece of feedback really needed listening too! I had made a mistake fitting the King Pin into the Reliant Robin radius arm. I hadn't installed a tapered pin that prevents the kingpin riding up and down.
    So I had to strip the car back down, remove the radius arm and rebuild the king pin!

    The man that never made a mistake never made anything, a good learning experience and even though you had to re-do the work, you have the satisfaction that (a) it all came apart, and (b) it is now correct, so that can only be a good outcome! Thanks for sharing!

    I think we're all smiling about the backing plate because we've all done something like it at some point (speaking personally, MANY points)........ Keep up the good work!!

    Had to chuckle to myself about the backing plate, I know on previous video you made a conscious effort to put it on first and it got in your way 😂🤣 the saying goes if at first you don’t succeed.....

    At least you didn't hurt yourself as a result of a wrongly assembled suspension.
    Some very experienced subscribers you've got, it's nice to know someone's got your back.

    Yup, as I said in my comments on the last Video I watch sometimes and think "Oooh you don't wanna do that!" But... I also think everyone has their own way of doing stuff so, i'm sometimes reluctant to say "Here man don't hammer on that!", or "You missed a bit out of there" Because of course I don't know what you may have done off camera.

      I thought the job went too well lol How are you getting on with the Regal? Worst PO item on LE93 has been the usual wiring bodges.

      @@StevesMachines I'm taking all the paint off at the moment, I've just put a pic up on FB Reliant owners forum if ya wanna check it out.. The PO had added lots of extra electrics but he did everything in red wire lol which was a bonus.. Cheers

      I will check it out. Years ago I had a mini clubman estate which had most of the electrics redone with household wire, total nightmare!

    Did you got the welch plugs at each end of the kingpin??

    • @StevesMachines
      @StevesMachines  3 роки тому

      No welch plugs on the later ones, it's a metal disc with a circlip, then silicone sealer.

  • @dolebandit9942

    I am sure I read somewhere that somebody was replacing a worn king pin, And I think they said that the king pin was sent oversized and you had to file it down till it fitted perfectly wedged tight, Is it because you swapped the bearings at the same time you did not need to do that ? Or have I read that all wrong ?

    • @StevesMachines
      @StevesMachines  3 роки тому

      I'm not aware of that mate, mine fitted lovely and snug.

    • @StevesMachines
      @StevesMachines  3 роки тому

      Just checked in the haynes manual, it's the old brass bushes that would have potentially needed reaming. The later ones have bearings. Also the later ones have a plate with circlips top and bottom in place of welch plugs. This is why I thought the taper pin was also not required as they had replaced the welch cap system.

      @@StevesMachines Yes I reckon your right, The older type you get a over sized king pin to compensate for the wear of the bushing to save you having to replace them, Although I would imagine you can only do that a few times before you had to replace the bushings, So I can see why they went to bearings, Is a better and easier set up
