Makes a refreshing change to see someone hunting and not just knocking animals over . I might just be getting old but I'm tired of the videos on you tube that just show kill after kill without showing the hunt . Great video.
Hey Chris, if you really feel that way check out the few videos our group has. We have had the most successful hunting season last year and have everything but kill shots on video. We are new to filming and hope to get better. As far as Solo Hunter, Just watched this video and he shows that its not as easy as it looks. He has a gift of filming hunts though!
@solohunter My son and I love your show! The way you capture footage is second to none! In this episode my son mentioned he felt cold while watching..haha....that's the difference in just telling a story and taking someone on a journey! Keep up the good work!
I really enjoy your style of story telling. I am historically a solo hunter, but last weekend took my wife for the first time on an opening day black bear hunt here in Washington state. After a slow start on the morning, we downed an almost 300lbs bear. Pretty amazing experience to share with my wife, and I think it's thanks in part to shows like yours that we have watched together, that allowed her a snapshot into the adventure that I love so much. Keep it up and God bless you and yours.
SOLO HNTR MEDIA no thank you it keeps me pushing my 59 yold self all year to stay in shape and do this backcountry hunting I can click on and get motivated 👍🏻
As an aspiring hunter, this is something that I desperately desire to work my way up to! Maybe not the part about being alone, but actually going out and hunting in the wilderness and not sitting in a tree stand or a blind like a lazy bum.
I have seen the episode a few times now. I believe it to be one of my favorites. It carries all the emotions of a tough free range public land hunt and the camera work really tells the story. Not to mention a little artistic touch. Great work Tim.
I have spent the past three years "solo hunting". It truly is a mental game. I find myself working harder at staying out there than anything else. I love being out there but staying out when its cold, wet and quiet is difficult to say the least. I'll now have this film on my mind when I feel like walking back to the truck. Thanks
It is nice to see my husband and I aren't the only ones that hike and hunt hard and get nothing sometimes. We just spent 4 days hunting north of Ketchum, ID and didn't see a single elk or even recent sign, went a lot of places, glassed hillsides before dark, nothing. Saw no dead animals, nothing hanging in camps. Wondered what we could do to score. Maybe nothing.... We do delight in the little things though, mt goats, moose, pikas, a mushroom a squirrel tucked in a tree, etc. That's what it's about, seeing amazing scenery and enjoying nature.
Hi Tim, Great work capturing the essence of solo hunting! I'm new to your channel and feel it was made for me. I have been solo hunting for 5 seasons, mostly elk and mule deer in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and my home state, Washington. You really hit the mark emphasizing the mental game when hunting solo. I tend to hit a wall, (mentally) at about the 5 day mark. It can be really difficult to keep your mind at task and enjoy the experience when your missing family, friends etc., Seclusion is good for resetting your soul as a hunter and a man. On the rare occasion that I've pulled out early, say day 6 of 10, I've always immediately regretted the decision. Look forward to your posts and good luck in the 2015 season!
Awesome episode Tim! Displaying the reality of a tough public hunt with a low probability of success...kinda like the public land where I hunt. I know that feeling. Thanks for the video!
Damn thanks, Tim last year I'm willing to bet I spent more time hiking back to the truck. Taking naps then I did actually hunting. as I get older I find it harder, to Keep my head in the game even if hunting truly is my passion! its only April and I can tell you the calls from the hills behind the house; Are louder this year then ever before. I'll have to try to remember to just keep my head in the game .
+SOLO HNTR ... you are totally welcome. You made your experience into a shared one. It doesn't hurt either that your name and my name are the same name. Some folks are natural story-telling artists, and Tim, you are one of those for whom the title "wordsmith" is totally appropriate. I know, because I've long praticed weaving stories for others intentionally using "word pictures", and that really does work wonderfully for so many. Thanks again.
Tim this was a great episode. I love the references to camping, fire starting, clothing, and general field craft. It is a timeless part of the hunt and your show should put more focus on it going forward. You and Remi are maniacs - some of the best stuff in hunting TV.
you my friend I envy as a older man not fit to do that type of hunting anymore I spent many days in the outdoors hunting hiking fishing and some of my most memorable moments were doing this thank you so much for bringing me back to what I loved wish You many enjoyable journeys and have a happy holiday !
+the shadow people wow for a minute there I thought I was the older man not fit. ha ha I feel that way some days for sure. Thank you for your kind words.
you my friend have so inspired me big time thank you for doing so in practice ive just done a 18 mile hike to start keep fit so i can go much further afield with my hunts this winter coming u are awesome thanks again jez
awesome footage as usual man ! perfect representation of what its all about time spent in the wild and patience . if it was easy it wouldn't be worth it keep it up man
I'm 13 i've been hunting for about 3 years now with my dad but in the family 13 and up is when you start to hunt alone like well not hunt alone but like go away from camp and hunt by yourself so I am happy to be out there on my own and maybe one day could be out there I would kill to go hunt out in Montana and nice video!
Hi Tim Thank you for sharing I have recently been listening to joe rogan podcast and came across yourself on there. I enjoy the outdoors on our little island called England..I enjoy the whole experience of the outdoors and also do some hunting though with catapults. Fantastic videos and thanks again. Des
Bought a new tikka yesterday and found this today... super excited about it. Just as a point of constructive criticism that others have mentioned before - the music on these videos is a bit too loud. We want to hear more of you and less of some generic stock music.
Eastern wa has the bigest population if mule deer i have ever seen all along the snake river there are massive bucks i took 26 inch spread 5x5 mullie this year.
Thank you for posting the videos. I for one, always look forward to them. Nothing like a new hunting video to get me back in the mood to continue to exercise and keep in shape for the upcoming season. New gun looks nice, what did you get? Thanks again keep up the awesome work.
My thoughts on lack of deer is due to predators. I think Remi and you should do some videos of taking out these predators. Granted theirs not much meat on eating a predator. As a Montana hunter looking for game off of private land is becoming harder to find. Keep up the good work I am always looking forward to new episodes.
What pants and coat are you wearing in this video. I am looking to buy some hunting gear for late-season October Colorado elk hunts. I am curious as to what outerwear you are using in this video. Thank you so much for your advice
Here is the Jacket. The pants have been discontinued but the early season ridge reaper pants are similar. I think they are out of stock at the moment. www.underarmour.com/en-us/ua-ridgereaper-es-fz-jkt/pid1247863-951

Hi Tim! my girlfriend got me hooked on you & Remi's videos, thanks you guys are awesome! quick question - what boots are those!? looked thru' the comments hoping someone had already asked but doesn't appear so. Thanks!!!
No. They get long during the winter while walking in the mud. They get trimmed each spring. That cow has a bad foot. Thats one reason why we milk here and not turn it out. Thanks
One of the best edited videos I have seen. You need to pair up with a professional hunter and make youtube history. If you don't do that, I would suggest you reevaluate what you consider quite. Spot and stalk, not walking not hunting not camping, Like you were fresh in the woods. dropped right in the spot ready to go. One step every 5 seconds at best....
+43North The last half of the episode was near Lincoln Montana which is Griz country for sure. Never saw any signs of griz that week though. Just wolf tracks
Studies conducted by departments of wildlife in many states in the West have determined deer populations have dropped due to 2 factors. 1 chronic wasting disease and 2 bloated elk populations (especially in Colorado). The biggest help for both of these factors is wolf reintroduction. Field study after field study has determined predation on elk herds not only increase deer herds but also make for healthier elk herds. It's also found that instances of chronic wasting disease are lower in areas with healthy predation. Before hunters freak out, I want to reiterate that these studies are done by wildlife agencies. The same agencies that are completely intertwined with the hunting industry. It's not the opinion of some environmentalist wackos. Wolves are good for hunting, period. And they can eventually be treated as a game animal as well. Ranchers are fully compensated for the TINY amount of predation on domestic herds. The Federal government pays for this. As hunters wolves are our brothers. They are apiece of the spirit of the West that is in each hunter. The hatred of wolves came from Europe when white men arrived in North America. Let's let it die out and admire them in a truly AMERICAN way.
barrel harmonics not cold bore -the lead sled and hand on top of gun half standing over tailgate" 0" has nothing to do with "0", over your pack and 7% down slope...bypod on your belly keep your hand off front of gun.push in to pod and of course squeeze.put yard sale on lead sled, only shoot the way your going to kill.practic 3 to 500,then 50 to 345 is a chip shot, confidence calms the nerves.water in the bore will change inpact 5-6 inches at 100 but that didn't look like a factor.I like to bring along a girl to do the filming,is that still Solo, hunt with dirty gun, that and 30 other things, looks like you got the hunting art down, looking forward to your next vid ,
love your videos!! I just picked up a pole for my gopro...i have a small sneak peak video on my channel. I have 6 days to hunt this year...4 days already gone...only seen doe's and fawns...no bucks yet...might try another 1.5 day hunt...chk out my video. good luck!!
I dont understand why they are allowed to hunt the area when the guy admits that "these valleys have extremely low deer numbers" Anyone help me understand?
"I'm not a trophy hunter by any means" yet every action says otherwise. A huge rack is awesome but it doesn't feed ya. I don't judge a person's motives, just own up to what you are.
Great Video! But the music often is too "in the face"? Best just to use it now and then, and or turn the volume down at times?.... It is great lots of times but also lots of times it's like a big wall between us and you!!! + watch the language e.g. the 'H_ll', 'D-mn' word sticks out vs Heck and Darn... talking about how cold your 'b-lls' are will certainly get a few cheap laughs... but at what cost? Hamlet "though it make the unskillful laugh, cannot but make the judicious grieve, the censure of the which one must in your allowance o'erweigh a whole theatre of others." With your huge viewership, you are the boss... If you take out the cheap stuff and bathroom humour, do you think there will there be some that decide you are not entertaining and stop watching... I doubt it.... ...take away what does not serve your fabulous story and images!!!! Of course all this is IMHO. Otherwise great!!! Bravo!!!! God's Love to it All!!!!

+Santos Rojo Just do one at a time. I don't nail it every time but it brings a new element to the hunt for sure.
What do you use for navigation in the Hills. I want to use my cell phone with a GPS APP what are your thoughts?

great episode as always, Was wondering what the program you were using to scout the topography is called around the 8:00 mark
Marc Moshenko Thanks Marc. I have found Google Earth is the best for actual topography and overall exploration. When it comes to figuring out where the public lands meet the private land check out OnXmaps or Trimble.
wow thanks for the reply, I never expected to get one, means alot to know you actually check these.
Keep up the good work. If you are ever in Saskatchewan and looking for some pointers, shoot me a message.

what mapping program was he using when sitting at his computer? that 3D looked great.
Just google earth.
+SOLO HUNTER. thanks.

great episode as usual. just wondering what jacket you're wearing at 10:13 in the video?

+Ryan S. Very water resistant and weighs 10 oz.

Which country is this ? Just waooo
What type of survival pouch is that?
Survival medic from Adventure Medical kits
solohntr.com/product/survive-outdoors-longer-survival-medic-kit/

No. They get long during the winter while walking in the mud. They get trimmed each spring. That cow has a bad foot. Thats one reason why we milk here and not turn it out. Thanks
"Milk"? Can a hoof like that mean a predator may likely get to it (or too many variables to say for certain; heavy winter, strong wolf pack, etc)?
what computer program were you using to look at hunting territory? Thanks!
+TradHunterRN Just Google Earth
Oh ok thats what I use too, just looked a little better than I am used to. What about all the red plots posted? Was that a layer you had added?
What part of Idaho is this?

+California Hunters Actually the Canon T4i.
+SOLO HNTR thanks
I dont understand why they are allowed to hunt the area when the guy admits that "these valleys have extremely low deer numbers" Anyone help me understand?
Its not that its now population, its that they are spread out around this giant territory. He's just saying the land he owns doesn't have many deer
+Steve Nessman Just not as many deer in this area but it has a sustainable and huntable population.
+Beastly Brad I don't own the land. Its all public land with over the counter tags in a heavily hunted area.
Hi I had a quick question, which mapping software do you use?
+Cody Hoppes OnXmaps hands down! www.huntinggpsmaps.com/
whats with the background sound. you didnt really need it
