Water! For quite a few years I have been doing handyman work and one of the things I di was to find the source of water leaks, travel, and ingress>
I always say to find them one must think like water. Now, I am not a qualified tradesman and have never claimed to be one but over a lifetime i have worked with a few, observed, asked questions, learned on the job or by investigation. I have drilled through a vitreous toilet that the manufacturer said could not be done, I have repaired qualified tradies stuff ups, found the source of leaks others could not find ( some from places the others never thought of.)
So how that water gets in to the bearings and housing. Well, apart from wear and tear - capillary action through the miniscule joint between the seal metal housing and the hub facing. and that is why you may find pitting at the top and the bottom especially. at the top, gravity lends a hand, at the bottom, capillary action by itself unless one sees the pitting running around the metal from top to bottom - a double whammy.
And you picked it one with running the appropriate sealant around that lip.
I'm just doing my right hand bearing that a local workshop told me didn't need replacing when the did the other side 3 or weeks ago, Ha - not going to them again even to press my new parts together.
Though I could save a few dollars by getting the old bearings pressed out - ho ho ho, that was learning curve and a few $s goneburger. and a day gone having been trapped in the village for the day with flooding blocking all roads out>
As I had already bought a hub bearing kit from a Toyota recommended source, I then had to get the hub assembly from the nearest Toyota.
BTW I have a 120 1 kz-te 345k km and try and do most of the work myself, watching a few videos like yours for tips, tricks, and traps. plus a manual>
I'm 72, live on the road so give it all the tender loving care so it will last me out.
I'll probably do a separate post on you injectors video - an interesting exercise including an inlet clean from intercooler right through to the manifold.

Hi Anthony. Good video. I recently replaced my 2 from wheel bearings. One bearing refused to come loose from hub spindle and finally came apart. I used a bearing puller to remove the race from the spindle. Where did you buy your press plates. Ive been using 16mm metal flat bar to hold the edges of the bearing housing.

What’s the difference between the ABS hubs and non ABS hubs? I just purchased hubs and don’t know if they are ok to use with ABS or not

G'day Anthony, just wanting to ask you I've just bought a 2008 Hilux KUN26R SR 1 KD-FTV with only 75k on the clock but due to age I'm trying to find anything i would need to look at to extend it's life; am already thinking to change the timing belt and water pump soon as I'm guessing they haven't been done as yet and generally all the fluids and filters if i can't see anywhere in the service reports that they've been done recently before i bought it, so my question would be do you know of anything else i would need to be checking mainly due to age as k's aren't up there yet?

hello Anthony I want to buy 2 complete hubs and the lot ready for me to bolt on my 2010 150 , I might as well get the full hub and bearing kit for both sides as I don’t know the history of my car and I’m about to do a lap of the country, the left side has a slight noise so it’s time I think, what price am I looking at for both sides completely ready to bolt up please? I’m not a mechanic so won’t be interested in taking anything apart. Cheers

Yeah but if you don’t use a seal it’s going to leak and file early what do you mean?
