Todd is the only instructor who walks the walk and talks the talk imo. I’m getting really solid with my single plane set up and swing . Next week I may want to send in video of my swing
I've had some of my best days in recents times with the SPS. A previous frustration was some days I would hit it it fantastic and then I would head to the range the next day and apply the same method and I wouldn't be hitting it so good at all. What I realise now is I was simply getting out of sequence (nothing more complicated than that) on the days I wasn't hitting it so good. To correct this I simply slowed the swing down, made sure I hit my positions and then boom within 3-4 balls I was hitting is fantastic again. I've realised now that's it's hitting your positions that creates the proper sequencing. That feeling of "hitting the wall" is now back again and one I'll never tire of!
Thanks Todd. I think in particular my issues were occurring somewhere between position 1 and 2. I wasn't allowing myself to set properly in position 2 before attempting the transition and thus transitioning too early which ultimately meant I was never stable at any point in the swing By slowing down and deliberately hitting my positions my body quickly found that natural "sweet spot" where it was now correct to attempt the transition into that flexed lead knee and then thereafter it just felt so solid and stable firing the arms When things aren't going well I think we all tend to think it must be something fundamental such as the grip, sidebend, plane of the backswing etc. The reality is you may not actually be doing a whole lot wrong - your sequencing can just get a little out of sync Many Thanks. Tim
@@Mkgialia That’s a pretty open question. Anyone can become a pro. But what I think you’re talking about is playing on the PGA tour and winning tournaments. And I think what you’re asking is would it be easier with Moe Norman Swing? And the answer is maybe. Both Norman Swing is one component to playing great golf. I believe that it is the easiest way to play golf. I believe it is the most consistent way to play golf. I believe it is easier on the back. These things have been proven by science. But the PGA tour is a place where you score lower than the best players in the world. You must chip, putt and be able to compete under pressure. So the benefit of the Moe Norman golf swing is that it is more consistent. In that regard I believe it would give longevity to anyone who took the swing onto the tour. Moe Norman won 53 tournaments in his career many of them professional tournaments. That equated to one of every three events in Canada. He was beating the best players in Canada with a swing - but not every day. That’s golf.
Great stuff Keeping club and body relationship throughout Keeping the rotation of club and body the same with the same intention Does that sound right?
Hey Todd, have you had any students that were right handed and their left arm was bent? I dislocated my arm playing basketball and my arm never returned straight, always bent. I been having trouble with the single plain swing because for me to get my right arm in the correct position I have to bend my wrist down, which just causes more issues. I would love to come to your school, but then again, I don't want to waste yours and my time if I am fighting a winless battle. Your thoughts? Love my Lock n' Roll putter!
Sir Todd G.: Btw, im from Davao city, Philippines...when i retire, hopefully next year, i will start promoting your videos and teach single plain swing
Mechanically Moe’s swing functioned like a Trebuchet, the lead arm mass acting as the primary lever and the club shaft like the sling. His backswing pulled the mass of the lead arm tight across the chest, loading it. It released forcefully in the downswing when the hip turn brought the shoulders back past parallel pulling the trail arm straight and hands forward towards target much faster than shoulders and connected arm had been moving. It is that release of mass of the arms forward toward the target and whipping down around the hands which produces most of the club head acceleration and F = 1/2(Mass x Velocity^2) striking force on the ball in all golf swings. What made Moe’s swing so effortlessly powerful is how he moved his entire body mass to the target at the start of the downswing and how much he allowed the lead arm to fly off and accelerate during the swing. It was genius level use of the underlying physics of using mass and momentum, not muscles, to do the work.
Thanks for all your help. Other than using your alignment aid, might you comment on using bottom of swing for different clubs to help ball placement out on the course?
The ball position stays constant, just inside the lead heel, what changes is the stance width with every club. Start with both feet close to each other and the ball in the center and then move only the trail foot to adjust the wide stance for each club.
Todd, could you make a video of Moe's swing that repeats over and over so we could use our brains mirror neurons to learn the swing subconsciously like the Sybervision system did with Al Geiberger and Patty Sheehan? I would love to purchase something like that with a driver swing and an iron swing.
Hi Todd, your doing a great job! Keep up the good work. The question I have pertains to a video I saw of Mr. Norman. He says the right hand and arm does nothing in the golf swing. Just goes along for the ride. I've never seen you talk about this. Is this True. Thanks
Yes and No. While the right arm is very passive in the backswing and partially in the downswing (Moe's feeling), according to my research, it does quite a bit from half way down through impact - like skipping rock.
Todd your a great teacher of the golf swing. My conclusion of Moe's golf swing had a lot to do with his swing speed. 105mph He could do the things with a golf club because of it. Alot of your teaching contradicts what he said. Moe was so straight hitting a golf ball because of his technique. Please teach what Moe says. He was the greatest ball striker because of it. Moe was special.
@@richardbaxter3586 Thanks for the comment Richard. Yes, I spent 10 years with Moe to understand him and his swing. I also measured and studied the biomechanics of every movement to quantify the amount of rotation, bend and side bend of every movement. What he says is mostly a representation of his feelings but not always factually true. Furthermore, I have many videos of Moe contradicting himself, saying that the swing is only left sided and then on another video saying that it is right sided. He used an overlapping grip for most of his career until he was 64 years old and then moved to a 10-finger position. He said it was in the palms but it was not. (I have detailed photographs). Moe said he slid his hips yet the center of the pelvis (sacrum) Hardly moves one inch. I teach the Data of Moe's swing so that you can achieve it even though it might contradict what he says. Feel is not real. I teach real.
@@ToddGravesGolf Todd I'm not saying that Moe didnt contradict his self a lot. But watching alot of Moe's clinics. He did what he says alot. It's the reason he could only do it. Look at all the tournaments he won. No one else using his technique can do it. He was special, in my opinion it can't be taught. Watch films of Fred Couples, Vj Sing there right hand slighty comes off the club at impact. They got that from Moe. Ben hogan in the 5 fundamentals said the pincher fingers of the right hand can get you in trouble.its so true. Iv been playing for forty years. Was a 3 hcp golfer. I know from experince the right fingers can get you in trouble. That is one of the reasons Moe hit it so straight. Coupled with swing speed and NO right hand = STRAIGHT.
@@richardbaxter3586 When you skip a rock you let go of the rock. The right hand coming off of the club after impact doesn't mean it wasn't used during the swing. Sounds like you have it all figured out tho. Good luck.
I think what confuses a lot of people about it being in front of you. They think the club head and what's really stays in front of the middle of your chest is a butt end of the club and your hands
Have you ever seen the golf teacher named Jim venetos his swing is a lead sided swing also he's the guy that I've learned to swing from some of the principles you speak of here about the lead side always being in control are similar thanks for sharing this information mr graves
@@ToddGravesGolf thanks for responding.. I have been utilizing a single plane swing similar to Moe for 7 years. I went from a 90s golfer to a 70s shooters. However, my big miss is a snap hook off the T once I went to Moe’s swing. Do you have any advice on stopping the snap hook in this swing?
Look at that little kid, in the background, trying to hit the ball by using his natural tendency to single-plane swing! Legs wide and straight, arms out and bending the lead knee at impact. Dad will fix that, for sure. Unfortunately for the kid and his back, swing, and eventual frustration with the game... :(

Sorry but you totally missed what Moe said. He said "my hands are always in front of the body". He didn't say the club! There's a huge difference!
Since i intensively studied single plain swing wid Todd, no more back pain...i enjoy golf since then

Right heel down at impact has made the most difference in my swing. And I feel I’m hitting the ball farther than ever.

Notice how far back he addresses the ball
Single plane or not. Most guys would hit it much straighter with a shorter swing like that. But not that knee dip..
Knee dip, (not a term I would use) is important for saving the back. Look at Ben Hogan at impact.
