its very refreshing to hear somebody with a strong opinion who is also able to explain it, especially in this day and age;)
La Vuelta is huuuuugely underrated. Those who don't follow and don't watch it don't actually know what they're missing.
It's my favorite grand tour.
Yeah. Giro is awesome for the chaos. Vuelta is awesome because its the best personal battles at the end of a grueling season. TdF is really just who has the best team, or if Pog is perfect. TdF is the least interesting, to me. Though I think classics >>>> grand tours
I love Ned Boulting, he's so knowledgeable and fascinating to listen to. I could sit here and listen to him talking about cycling all day
Decouple pro riding (tech) from the consumer industry. UCI standards are causing the real harm for non professional cycle enthusiasts.
Nothing forces consumers to buy UCI-compliant bicycles. Presumably it works the other way around: enthusiast roadies are likely demanding the same sort of bicycles that they see in professional racing, because those are the people the look up to.
The points system points should be closer to make it closer. The differences between positions is too large.
Vingegaard is underrated in a sense that if not for Pog he could dominate the Tour for 6-7 straight years. Unfortunately for him he races against the best cyclist in the history
Also-polkadot being a breakaway prize? Well they tried to brea away on stages 14, 15, 19 and 20 didn’t they? Didn’t work so well for the breakaway, did it? There is no breaking away from Pog and Jonas in the mountains. They rip your legs off if you try.
💯
Here's a twist I'd like to see. A couple times - maybe just twice - during the Tour(s) have an intermediate sprint or a mountain sprint where everyone on the team of the winner gets the bonus seconds. Would add a huge amount of new strategy.
Really enjoyed his takes, very knowledgeable and good about explaining his opinions
Ned is an absolute legend. A man I can listen to all day.
Maybe for KOM they could give early breakaway koms higher points, but there still has to be a huge reward if some breakaway climber happened to won the queen stage like felix gaal who was ahead of vingegaard when pogacar was dropped last year
My friend got to ride with Lael Wilcox for 60 miles as she passed through central Ohio on her round the world ride. One quarter of the 240 miles she did that day.😮
Part of La Vuelta's charm for Spanish speakers is lost on a wider international audience. The Spaniards want to win at home and the Latin Americans want to win in the Spaniards' home. Richie Carapaz is one of those riders who would absolutely tell you that winning La Vuelta is one of his priorities of the season.
Jonas is underrated ❤
.. actually JV is overrated since he's just TDF guy, period...
This was a great little episode. More like this please.
People are buying e-bikes instead of regular bikes now, are I doubt the e-bikes are counted in the bike sales stats.
Always good to hear from Ned.
Re: polka dot jersey, it should at least be a real climber. If Benoit Cosenfroy can win it while not climbing well, something is wrong.
A bit of Neddy 😉
Mr overtalky word salad
He really isn’t. He’s just well spoken.
