      Goldfish shouldn't be a common feeder fish, bait fish, or pet as they get way too large and destroying our waters! We need to look to smaller native fishes like rosy red minnows or shiners for these applications.

    Consult a vet on how to “properly dispose” of a fish? How about ppl just don’t buy animals unless they are committed to caring for them?

    • @oh-duh
      @oh-duh 3 роки тому +3

      My daughter was younger, at the county fair & knew I kept cichlids at home. Someone won it for her, she brought it home. I put him in the tank. We moved & in the process, he killed the expensive cichlids. Then he had the tank to himself & he just grew & grew & grew. So, I don't think many ppl buy them bc tbh, they're the dirtiest & usually die off. Whoever raises goldfish must be nuts lol but I think a huge problem of it all is the giving them away to kids at carnivals & county fairs, etc. There's a reason they're a "prize".

      @@oh-duh As a goldfish keeper, I agree that they are indeed dirty. When they re small they re easier to take careof but when they re big is a different story in my opinion. They re good in an aquarium with less decorations. They scavenge alot by disturbing the substrate and the dirt flies off and attaches to plants. But sometimes it all depends on how owners feed them rly. Cuz that s one of the reasons the tank get dirty.

    • @Zlegacy34
      @Zlegacy34 3 роки тому +5

      They lack natural predators and they can rapidly reproduce leading to high numbers of fish being present in the body of water. This could cause the entire ecosystem to collapse because nothing is eating the goldfish and the goldfish are eating all the food that the native fish would be consuming. When it comes to eating goldfish/carp I wish more people would. The truth is that the majority of Americans chose not to eat any type of carp because of all the bones within the fish and Americans consider carp a “trash fish” meaning it’s undesirable.

    Not going to lie I dump my extra bait fish in a pond that may dump into the creek when it floods ! I think the Bluegill eat the goldfish eggs the numbers never increase but now there are a few dozen about 2/3 the kids love to feed ! The problem is not the gold fish the problem is the lack of large predators ! You need the large predators to regulate the rivers ! Asian carp do not get out of control where the largest of gar live !

  • @jameselliott9397
    @jameselliott9397 3 роки тому +1

    The gold fish are a very common bait for shovelhead catfish in Ohio. and many times people dump their extra bait when they are done. ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=goldfish+catfish+bait. Goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus) are part of the carp family but do not have barbells around their mouths. They vary in their fin configuration, coloration and in their body size, which is directly influenced by their environment. Their feeding habits, like native carp consists of trawling along the bottom of the lake or pond disrupting sediment that makes it harder for other fish to eat. At worst, goldfish will fatten up on the eggs of native species.
