      Ish. Reactived in May 2022 out of the 25th ID units stationed in Alaska. There were two Brigades from the 25th ID stationed there (with the US Army Alaska command providing division level command since the rest of the 25th is in Hawaii). One was a Stryker Brigade, the other, 4/25 was an Airborne Brigade. US Army Alaska reflagged to 11th Airborne Division HQ, 1st Stryker Brigade (which used to be the 172nd Infantry Brigade before) gave up their Strykers to become the 1st Infantry Brigade, 11th ABN, and 4/25 became 2nd Brigade, 11th ABN). Currently only 2nd Brigade is an Airborne unit, I think they're still trying to figure out if they want to make 1st Bde also Airbone, or do something else and make them Air Assault or some sort of specialized Artic equipped Infantry BCT

    The fact that the US Army is still using the basic M4A1 rather than an enhanced version like the Block 2 or URGI is kinda crazy to me. Yes, it would cost some money. But at a minimum all infantry units should have their rifle upgraded at this point. Yes, M4A1 will get it done and its still not a bad weapon. But there have been a lot of advancements to the platform that have proven themselves in combat with other Army units like the 75th, Green Berets, etc that are durable enough and offer tangible benefits(like free floating). Instead they went to a super heavy battle rifle? Idk, I guess we'll see how that plays out.

    • @TacticalTirpitzle
      @TacticalTirpitzle Рік тому +7

      super heavy? would it be nice sure but in the grand scheme itll do nothing for your basic infantryman, plus why would they upgrade to block 2 or URGI if they will be replaced with the XM5

    • @west3979
      @west3979 Рік тому +14

      While I kind of agree, the M4A1 works fine as is. Our infantrymen can shoot and move effectively when trained effectively, and that's what really matters. No amount of upgrades will make a soldier as effective as good training will.
      Also, you underestimate how heavy the Block 2 is. The DD RIS II rail alone weighs over a pound - with all the doohickeys, it's about as heavy as an XM7 (which by the way is also free-floating).
      And unfortunately yes, even if we did want to upgrade our M4s, it would be expensive to a point the Army is not willing to shell out the cash. They don't want an 'iterative improvement', the guys up top are always looking for some insane game-changer they're never going to really get.

      MY EXACT POINT! The army truly does limit its basic level 11 series by not providing them the equipment. Even down to earpro, nods, boots, uniforms. At this point I think we should all upgrade to the FSP Block II's and Sig Tango's on the M4's. There so much to say but ehh
