Lanoguard seals the surface. Rust needs moisture and air. It stops both. It isn't a rust converter like Kurust. I did the underside of my Volvo. Wire brushed the surface corrosion, then applied Evaporust. Jet washed that off after a couple of days. Then sprayed everything with Jenolite rust converter to deal with anything that was left. The last stage was to spray Lanoguard to prevent new rust forrming. Lanoguard is not designed to remove or convert rust, that is why it doesn't turn black. The cheapest way to convert rust to metal is to use Phosphoric acid, this is the chemical in all rust converters, but you pay through the nose for a small bottle. You can buy Phosphoric Acid in large quantities for a lot less.
Fair play to you James that deal was brutal on you balance sheet but you stuck by the deal when many would have walked away hopefully she won’t be picking up the phone to you apart to thank you and leave you a good review.

Lanoguard isn’t a colouring but it’s a coating. It doesn’t cover up nasties and personally if I see a car covered in black gunk I expect the worst that it’s been disguised. Welding should be primed with epoxy primer and painted with stone chip (or similar) then a coating of Lanoguard helps stop rust spreading from chips. It needs reapplication annually. Fluid film is big in the states rust belt and it’s similar stuff based upon sheep wool grease.
When I sprayed it on to the rear suspension of our Jazz where all the factory coating flaked off it went lovely and black. Where it's on painted metal it's pretty transparent. I can't speak for its long term effectiveness yet, but an annual clean and re-application gives me more confidence than a big thick coat of clag. Plus it's weirdly satisfying to apply...

Interesting comments on Lanoguard. My brother in law and myself have tried it and currently prefer ACF50. We reckon it soaks in better and gives better results.
Lanoguard is excellent. It won't colour it black as it is a clear product. (Which helps to not cover up rust/damage etc). I sprayed my mx5 chassis, and 6months later the whole underside looks dark and lovely. It takes time to set and darken up.
True, it's weird the product really does last and stops rust. I spray the cars in the summer and you can see the wishbones, etc change colour over time. 3days, 3months, then 6months. It kind of ages like a fine wine. 😊
That was very honourable of you Chops sorting that out....maybe some dealers would take it back and cancel sale maybe mate im not sure ❤ the Jeep i mean .
The main point of lanoguard for me is that it won't damage suspension bushes, engine mounts, brake hoses, seals etc. It's not a cosmetic treatment and I like that because you aren't covering up issues. I think it's overpriced and overrated and it's a shame it doesn't last longer but if you are using it to preserve a rusty vehicle then checking and topping up once or twice a year is probably not a bad idea. If it was half the price I'd have no issue with it.
Im not convinced by lanagaurd either. At work i have a comercial out front mower, used 10 months of the year and a mid mount machine that gets used 11 months, at peak times these are used 5 days a week. Periodically grass build up is scrapped off or washed off at low pressure. You can imagine the grass build up under the decks. Every 6 months the decks get really thoroughly pressure washed and treated with wax oil . When the decks are washed there is almost zero corrosion and 90% of the wax oil coating remains despite the amount of acidic rotting grass, and stones sticks mud etc that get thrown up. The year we tried lanogaurd there was a fair degree of rust at the 6 month wash and no real sighn of the coating it was nowhere near as resiliant. They do a thick grease but this is not cost effective for a 60" cutting deck.
Although I have tremendous respect for you and the way you conduct your business, on this occasion I think it would have been better to pull out of the sale and send it to auction. Any bets on how long it will be before she’s calling you with a list of faults???
Buying an old Roller is a very fraught and slow process. These old dears aren't always looked after as well as the previous owners think they have. They do suffer with rot if not cared for and there's a hell of a lot of over engineered car to care for. The buyer must think it's half decent as he hadn't walked away but he'll definitely be looking to bid you down on price. It's a slow game with cars like this, Chops is right to be patient.
Lanoguard is a retail product (designed and marketed for best case scenario) with fancy advertising priced accordingly to anyone in the trade they’ll see through it.
Glad you called it out chops. Too many utubers selling their soul for a fast buck and recommending snake oil products. Keep it real as that's why people watch your feeds.
Hope the buyer is very happy with the Jeep Chops. They've pretty much had a mini reconditioning with a dealer warranty for only a little more than the price most private sellers would sell a rolling project for.
Next time you have a customer ask for an inspection, take a deposit and offer them the money back if the inspection shows something they are not happy with but state that you expect a copy of the report. That way if he changes his mind you have the benefit of an individual specialist report which is worth hundreds of pounds.
@AndyPipkin-dj8sy Agree, I use wax oil underneath the decks of several comercial mowers, I pressure wash and apply it every 6 months. It seems to really stand up well to the debris thrown up and the acidic composting grass. Tried lanogaurd one year and at 6 months after pressure washing there was a fair bit of rust and no real sign of the lanogaurd. Pressure wash off the dirt from over the wax oil and almost no rust. The only downside of waxoil is the mess and smell.

I'm not sure Lanoguard purports or even pretends to be a rust "converter"? My understanding is that it is a lanolin based protective coating more akin to Waxoyl? Based on the premise/observation that gate posts don't rust where the sheep rub against them. So a bit harsh stating that there was no "colour change" implying you expected some chemical conversion of the rust? I would add that I have never used it myself.
🤣 I'm always amazed how people that have been never been within 5 ft of the car make these comments 🤣 Enlighten me. How does rust cut out and replaced with new metal rust in 2 years?
@@ChopsGarageI'd guess that patches/welding would indicate that serious corrosion has been occuring for some time. Perhaps its is likely that there is more corrosion that is not yet visible. i.e. originating from the inside of box sections.

Chops next time you buy a little jeep take the welding goggles off and maybe you will get a better outcome.
Lol
It’s still going to rust from the inside
We did injection in rails
Id of pulled out the deal with the Jeep. She will be back or sure.
Hope not
I'm not sure Lanoguard purports or even pretends to be a rust "converter"? My understanding is that it is a lanolin based protective coating more akin to Waxoyl? Based on the premise/observation that gate posts don't rust where the sheep rub against them. So a bit harsh stating that there was no "colour change" implying you expected some chemical conversion of the rust? I would add that I have never used it myself.
Hardly harsh when their own adverts show a colour change!
Not a fan of lanoguard. Schultz all the way for me.
Yep
@@ChopsGarage only thing is buying a schultz gun and cleaning it properly afterwards. also with lanoguard it never dries totally so crap sticks to it.
It will be a come back car, I bet
Hopefully not
Outch chops bet that hurt. 😢😢
Yep
@ChopsGarage hope you dont think i was being rude. Definitely no offence ment
Its coming back.
The car wirhin 2 weeks and the rust within 2 years
🤣 I'm always amazed how people that have been never been within 5 ft of the car make these comments 🤣 Enlighten me. How does rust cut out and replaced with new metal rust in 2 years?
If I ever saw a chassis that has been welded I would not buy unless for scrap .
Not sure why. Chassis are welded to start with
@@ChopsGarageI'd guess that patches/welding would indicate that serious corrosion has been occuring for some time. Perhaps its is likely that there is more corrosion that is not yet visible. i.e. originating from the inside of box sections.
@@mabozzerritchie6474@ChopsGarage. Yep thats exactly why if your welding one part then rust being what it is , you will be sure to welding some more soon , rust cannot be bought only grown.
On the lanoguard thing...pushed really hard on you yube vids...a while back.... BUT not now ... . users seem to agree , its not the dogs danglies , after all ....
@tonywatson1412 compared to wax oil it is clean and doesn't stink, sadly not a magic bullet.
Beside the smell and mess waxoil has been proven to work for years, the only problem is people who don't pressure wash the dirt off propely before hand or over thin it .
Seems so
You must do this stuff for clicks...no dealer i know including me would go through this torture
So talk me through the process of how I would do that 🤣
What's the betting your prospective Rolls Royce buyer will use any faults in the report to knock you down on price. Even if there are no faults, he's looking to play you. You are too nice Chops.
He did vid soon
Not sure I would trust a 10 year cambelt
Modern ones have Kevlar etc
wow
stone chip gaurd is brilliant 2 big cans did my car 1999 bmw E38 All done £10 a big can .,, lanagaurd only last a year stinks .
Yes best to tidy up
I would not have dealt with this woman ,is it the moka man ? .she is really keen to get her hands on it of cource she is!!! Rumour has it there are coach companies advertising trips down to devon for this easy touch trader ,who will sell you a car for next to nothing after spending fortunes on prep and then gaurantee the car for life !! Im not going to subscribe no more .
Ok lol
Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
£3k welding 😂 them boys down at moors are laughing all the way to the bank.
Yeah, I loved the phrase “you could peel the patches off with a screwdriver “…😮
How's that? 45 hrs
@@ChopsGarage You ain't wrong Chops. The local garage to me wanted £700 just to weld up 3 small patches on my 56 plate Picasso last year. I took it to an old fella who's been a mechanic for 50 years and he did the whole welding job for £250, plus he painted the whole of the underside and sills, put a new tyre on it and did a couple of bushes that failed the MOT.
@@ChopsGarage45 hours 😅😅😅😅😅😅
@@ChopsGarage you’ve been done over.
lanoguard is crap
Not a fan myself
Selling a very dubious old Jeep with a free 14 day return window? Someone likes a gamble!
Well no longer dubious
05:20 above and beyond dropping a car off for inspection , customer paid , so he is at least £500 plus in … an old rolls Royce can cost thousands to maintain …
