    What do you think of wrist-worn devices that claim to estimate VO2 Max? Are they worthwhile?

      Thanks for the message. So the gold standard is the VO2 Max test where your gas are collected and analyzed. The accuracy is because you are measuring the oxygen intake and carbon dioxide output. Wrist-worn devices are not accurate as evident by this article that cites a few studies:

      But if you want to use a wrist-worn watch or not is dependent on what your training goals are and expectations.
      If you are looking for accurate results to tweak your training and workouts, then I would not recommend a wrist worn VO2 Max measurement. However if you are into casual fitness and training and accurate measurements are not of any concern, then the wrist-worn VO2 Max measurements might be sufficient.

      Its like riding in a luxury black sedan Uber versus a Hyundai!
      The point is the VO2 Max test is able to give you a data driven assessment of your fitness level, maximum heart rate, and lactate threshold. Your VO2 Max is genetically determined but fitness level, age and sex play a role so the key is to get a baseline and then develop an exercise plan to improve it. I suggest getting a VO2 Max test every year for regular gym goers and every 3-6 months for high level, elite athletes.

    If v02 max is how the body processes oxygen then why would somebody believe that they need to decrease their oxygen intake to improve efficiency?

      Because if a person limits the amount of oxygen they inhale for example, an athlete sleeps in a oxygen deprivation tent, then their body learns to work more efficiently with less oxygen , so when they work their body to extreme levels where more oxygen is needed to keep up with the increased workload then it can cope, especially in an area of excess oxygen (outside there sleep deprivation tent). Another example is when athletes go to mountains for ‘altitude camps’, they increase the efficiency of their cardiorespiratory system and are capable of taking in less oxygen while still performing at high levels, although this isn’t permanent and wears off after a few weeks.

      VO2 Max cost between $100-$200 on average depending on where you live. A lactate threshold test is also done at the same time as a VO2 Max test where your blood is drawn from your finger or earlobe every few minutes to measure the lactate levels. This will add another $50-75 to the cost.
      If you don't want to get your blood drawn (which many of us don't want) there are other noninvasive ways of getting a very close measurement of your lactate levels.

    This is part of pe. alevel.but it isnt supposed to chsnge how ever i think neuroleptics altered it my vo2max.i think it does damage isvpermanent.i had navy seal style fitness..this is also sbout phosphagen system lactic acid systrm and then oxygen system.fitter you are lo ger it takes to get to wall.if you slow a little then keep hoing then you can go all day after and go faster again thats my experience.id lke to know if neuroleptics damage dopsmine receptors i think they do ,i dont think they just block recrptors becsuse 18months what it takes to really get fit i was fit before but at age8 i was running 20mins every night at my step dads pace its more like 8000-1500pace maybe tiny bit slower as opposed to msrathin it says some point all three energy systrmscwill be functioning.i was thimking two hour run i stayed sore a week.but if i jogg a slowly just then have warm bath i find this cures ache not ice bsth.if oxygensystrm ssrts after an hour then what d we still take on tiny carbs.keto diets they ssid they experinced no wall?
