Hey Levy, We love this road to GM series because we love you man. You introduced so many of us to this sport and watching you compete in tournaments feels just like if we were watching an older brother play in some big state championship. When you win, we win, when you lose we're here with you! You got this man. It's gonna be a crazy story. If you read this turn off your screen and get some sleep.
did you just tell him to "get outta here"? lol But yeah I agree with what Nate said except you'd be my younger brother, Levy. Big ups for doing what you do and go easier on yourself. Focus on positive thoughts! Much love.
Becoming a GM may in fact be necessarily a singular focus that can’t be achieved amidst the distractions of being the greatest chess content creator. We love ya for who you are, Goaty McGoatFace
True. Levy made the smart career moves. Sacrificing his chess ceiling in the process. I think that's definitely not something to be ashamed of. IM is still impressive. Levy does a ton for chess he should be proud of himself.
@@dg4293absolutely true. But also, as someone that dedicated his life to chess (Levi), and knows he has the talent to reach GM, I’d imagine it would be hard to let that desire go.
Hi Levy. My story is similar to many others, it was through your channel that I have been introduced to chess. I was born blind, so a lot of chess resources are inaccessible to me. But blindness does not stop me from enjoying your videos and also learning from them. Thanks to you, I've started both watching and learning to play chess which has become an important part of my life lately. I can't really tell you not to feel bad about any of your losses, that's impossible. All I can say is, if you see this, please try and remember your wins as well. You've had some pretty bad defeats, but you have also had some great victories against some of the world's best players. The road to GM is a long one, but I truly believe you can get there eventually. Remember that through all the ups and downs, you have people who genuinely support you whatever happens, and won't abandon you even when you start to make mistakes. Finally, I wanted to thank you. Thank you for everything you do in your videos and your courses, and all your efforts to make chess less intimidating and more entertaining. Good luck with the rest of your tournament and all future games you play.
One of the most profoundly moving comments I've ever seen. I hope Levy does indeed read your comment. You are an inspiration to never give up. Congratulations you are my new favourite person ever!🎉❤
Levy, You and Anna have both not only inspired me to learn how to play chess in my 30's, but you've also ignited a new unknown love within. I'm not going to sit here and say that you shouldn't feel bad for losing, you're 100% right to feel however you wanna feel. I simply want to cheer you up by thanking you for helping me learn this beautiful yet ruthless game. I will forever have this newfound passion for chess thanks to you! *Triumphant as the GM title may be, between creating Chessly, dominating the youtube chess sphere, and inspiring an entire generation of future GM's, you are one of the greatest, regardless of title, period!*
This. Of everything Levy ever does, becoming GM will be the one least remembered because his influence among the chess masses has been so great. And I don’t say that to denigrate the GM title, just to point out *how* unique his influence is ❤
This is a very relevant point. When Levy and Hikaru were ranking chess legends, one of the factors they considered most when deciding the top guys was how many people they inspired to start playing. His channel inspired me to start in my 30s as well. He may not be a Magnus when it comes to playing chess, but without a doubt he is easily the most entertaining when it comes to covering it.
i like how by saying "you and Anna", we can compliment several chess content creators: Gotham of course, and Anna Rudolf, Anna Cramling, Anna-Maja, probably more. EDIT: oh there are also GMs named Anna who do some Instagram, but i don't think they're content creators
@ Perhaps you're right and I love that you immediately went there but I'm only talking about Cramling cause idk the others. She's so wholesome, nerdy and sweet. Her golden retriever energy is all I need to put a smile on my face and the way she looks at Pia during her game recaps literally makes me melt. That and she's a sight for sore eyes... Especially recently, totally blossomed into an elegant baddie lmfao
You know, it is incredibly humbling and inspiring to see an honest man talk about his mistakes and misfortunes when it comes to him trying to achieve his dream. We all know that you can do this Levy! You're awesome!

Longer time viewer here and since 2020 I've watched at least 90% of your videos. Mad respect to you for doing your thing and staying a decent human being in the process. I can't imagine how hard and frustrating it must be to show off your losses that way. Please don't lose your joy in chess or faith in yourself. You did a great job so far, handling the nerves comes with experience. I know you can do it, you're not missing anything on the theory front. You prove that to us in all those years already. Don't choke about some losses getting back into the real grind, while essentially covering jobs for three people at least with everything you do.
Levy, you’ve shown lots of talent and won plenty of impressive chess games. Your biggest opponent is you. I don’t think you’re gonna get the GM title without overcoming yourself, and like a tennis player or NHL goaltender, half the battle is staying mentally sharp no matter what. Your belief in you has to come back, as it should. You’re clearly a very talented chess player. So many top athletes, especially those who find themselves in tough situations (like being the last guy back, goaltending, or being in a 1v1 the entire time anyways, like chess or tennis) see sports therapists for that reason. And they’ve been famously successful afterwards. Whatever it takes, because you have the ability and talent, so focus on this title because once you have it, you’ll feel so relieved and accomplished. Over the years, every time you mention it, I can tell it weighs on you a bit. This is something you want, and most importantly, something you feel you can achieve. Don’t let yourself be your biggest opponent. And good luck.
@ He has performed at gm level multiple times. If he does not become a gm, it will not be because of his skill or talent. Most likely the reason will be age or mental, but I think if he gets a hold of his mental soon enough, he can become a gm. I think he has good odds of becoming a gm if he can consistently replicate his good performance. I'm not the kind of person to say that it is certain either way though.
I've been following your 'road to GM' for quite a while now and there are 2 things that always come back in your evaluation of your own games. Often, your first instinct is one of the better moves, if not the best move, but you start overthinking and choose to move a different piece. Secondly, you often avoid moves that feel passive. Then I see your opponents make moves that feel passive in preparation of an attack that wins the game. I really hope you can break this barrier, go more for your gut instinct and go for those passive moves in preperation of an attack!
Don't think about what others say Levy, look at how many people you inspire. You are an awesome guy and we all know and believe that you will become a GM at some point! Be happy and you'll turn the tables on them tommorow!
This actually motivates me to keep learning chess and to take losses better, if it happens to my teacher it can happen to me too, we're all humans doing our best and that's the beauty of this game! Keep your head up Levy and good luck for the next games.
Also during Hikaru’s stream this game I think he tried to be more considerate, well also while being annoyed at the chat who may or may not taking things out of context or something. He also seemed perplexed so I don’t think there was ever mal intent
22:36 - This video and this comment came at the right time for me. I've been increasing my ELO quite steadily as I've learned the game. Then, suddenly a little while ago, I just started to lose and lose and lose out of nowhere. My ELO sank like a rock, but I still couldn't win even though the others' rank were way below my peak. So strange. It's like the "chess gods" have condemned me, hence I've been a bit angsty about chess lately. But seeing others way more skilled than I also having these losing streaks makes me at least somewhat relieved that I'm not alone haha
i want you to know that road to grandmaster is my favorite of your series and regardless of your success I enjoy having someone to root for. As a layman i dont follow any big or small chess tournaments even when you cover them unless something particularly interesting happens, but this series i watch asap every single time. I believe in you and want to see your journey.
Literally just watched the game 2 recap I thought I was tripping when I saw this come up lol. Definitely been a rough stretch in the tournaments recently but no player goes without them. I'm no where near qualified enough to give chess advice but I do have a lot of life experience and one thing I've learned is that our general ability as humans to regroup and cover from almost anything is remarkable. Looking forward to seeing you get to the finish line.
This is like the meme when a grown man jumps on the xbox after work and gets clapped by some little kid. Don't feel bad Levy, these kids are cracked now in days. I still believe in GM Gotham!
Don't worry, Levy, you can do it. You're an inspiration to us. I learnt a lot on this channel and I'm already trying to get to 1500 now, even though I'm just 12! Thank you for helping and teaching us 🙂
The road to GM is not going to be easy and you will face setbacks. You know better than anyone that it’s those setbacks which you learn the most from. You are an elite chess player playing some of the best in the world. These players have been extremely tough but I still believe half your battle is the mental game and trusting your instincts. You’re also better at chess than 99.99% of your audience so please keep that in mind before caring what others have to say. You’ll always have my support and I believe in you.
Form is temporary, class is permeant. You are, and have always been, a fantastic chess player. You've seemed really in your head in a lot of recent games, but you'll get through that. You're clearly still learning a lot from this journey, and that celebration when you hit GM will be all the sweeter because of it.
Don’t let anything stop you Levy set backs will happen competition is always tough stick with it you’ll get through sooner or later always rooting for you
Hey Levy, I just want you to know that you were my inspiration to improve at chess when I was like a 1000. Now I'm a 1600 after about 2 years of playing and if you then told me I would be a 1600 I'd be like: No way I'm gonna be this good. So I know what it's like to have a goal you think is extremely hard to achieve, especially when you're losing some games in a row, but there are going to be a lot of amazing games you are going to win and sooner or later you are going to achieve your goal. Just remember that at least thousands of people believe that you can become a GM. You just have to find some mental strenghth to believe in yourself and not to give up. And I wish you best of luck in future games and thank you for being my inspiration.
Love Gotham. love the person levy. The real community wants nothing but success for you. Keep working hard man. You got this! Side note, I think Hilkaru is for u as well. Maybe some comments that weren’t ideal but I do not think malicious intent
sending love to you Levy, keep your head up, you’re doing fine- and you’re gonna do better if you don’t beat yourself up, i know it’s hard but i know you can do it. you got this m8
Levy, I remember when I was around 10 years old and I would watch your chess commentaries. You have always been a big inspiration to me, through both the highs and the lows of the tense game of chess. Good luck in the future rounds, and I truly believe you can become a GM! As I always tell myself, one game at a time.
We believe in you levy. Attempting an astonishingly difficult task in the midst of being an excellent chess creator and running an outstanding website is truly inspiring. Whatever you need or decide, we're behind you 100%
Dearest levy, Don't lose your confidence, I still have hope in you. Just wait you will definitely get the GM title. Good things won't happen so fast! you have to wait. Even I've tried to reach 1000 Elo so many years and I still couldn't achieve it😅. Since I saw your channel, I got 850 Elo from 400 Elo! This always made me keep going. So don't turn back. And I want to thank you for all the support that made me reach 850 and I'm so close to 1000. WE love you levy, I am giving you full support👍
You know, it's incredibly humbling and inspiring to see an honest man open up about his mistakes and misfortunes while pursuing his dream. We all know you can do this, Levy! You are awesome!
Since this tourney can’t get worse, just TRY going on maximum 3 minutes/move. When you catch yourself overthinking, just say “screw it; this tournament is blown anyway” and start making moves. Gotta rip that bandaid off, and now is a good time to.
Hey, Ive played chess tournaments myself, and you need to think longer for some moves, what hurts Levy is that he plays relatively easy moves in like 5 minutes, which really hurts him in the long run when he actually has a tough descicion, but doing that will probably result in 6 more losses, you'll probs miss a Lot of things
i'm more like 5... if you don't see any blunders then make the move and leave time to save yourself later. Levy know the fundamentals. he knows he knows the fundamentals but his own rapport implies he's emoting everywhere
You do remind me of myself: I'm often struggling with being bad at whatever I'm doing for a while and then I'm suddenly much better once again. And I haven't found a solution to be "good" as often as possible
I remember stumbling upon your videos when I first got into chess and had absolutely no idea how to play and I was so confused when I watched your videos but you helped me discover my passion for such a beautiful game and you introduced many to the beautiful board
Climbing into the arena is a gutsy move and reminds us that you know the trials you're speaking of in others' games. Trying earnestly for the GM is sufficient given your contributions to the game. Win or lose, it's a worthy thing to do.
İ really love you and your content, everyday waiting new content and especially in this Road to GM series. I’m actually not that good at chess, at least I’m not in your level Levy, but maybe, next time you play the move that you normally will not play? Just make moves that you find ridiculous and don’t think 3-4 moves away, just focus on one move play what you find ridiculous but not that bad. P.S. whatever move you play, you win or lose, we still love you))
The "levi will never be gm" meme might be funny, but i really hope this man achieves this milestone before he retires (again). You have shown me how to play through your videos, and i climbed to 1800+ because of you. You make chess look fun and i hope you dont lose joy in it. God bless
Hey Gotham, we really appreciate you sharing your road to GM experience, which is something that not a lot of us who get the chance to do in our lifetime. Please do not ever give up as we are literally rooting for you all the way
I started playing chess two years ago thanks to your content. It got me to stop my addiction issues (or at least replace them with healthier ones lol), gave me purpose when almost nothing else in life did, and helped me deal with depression and anxiety. I can read from other comments I'm not the only one with a story like this. If you can have some perspective and realise this (I know it's hard), an effin GM title means nothing compared to the impact you made on the sport and on so many people. We're all rooting for you.
Paradox of change(Gestalt therapy, the way you see things): the probabilities lean toward the fact that change cannot be forced, rather more accepted. My friend - lawyer, iraq vet, marathon runner, sweet girl but scares me a little bit maybe lol - told me, "LITTLE STEPS WILL GET YOU EVERYWHERE IN LIFE." (Guess what her name was.. Yes, Rose!) [Cool man, you'll get there ! We're all rooting for you mate !!] Go Levy !!!

Hey, Dont think about what others think like you said in the last vid. There are a BUNCH of people who dont comment / react but DEFINITELY support you a Lot...! Great Vid.!
Did he really drop Arturs? I feel like many of the pieces of advice he gave were very useful had Levy just listened to them, such as not using vague justifications but always requiring concrete lines, calculation, and so forth. He's also intentionally playing worse lines, which is insane to me. Magnus can get away with that, but he's no Magnus.
Hey Levy, We all cherish for you in this road to GM series, when you win it feels like we’re winning and when you lose, we lose together. No one likes to lose, but even though we will support you and always cheer for you. You showed that sport for too many people around the world, your career in chess excedes the chess boards. In fact, every feeling that evolves around chess, for those who started playing because of you, there is a bit of Levy.
Hey Levy, You’re an awesome chess player and there’s nothing wrong with having emotions about your experiences. Keep up the good work on and off the chess board.
Levy, you'll probably never read this, but it would be really interesting and instructive to see you work with a sports psychologist to tackle some of these mental blocks, which we all have at some level or another (mine obviously much lower than yours). Beside that, just focus on the process, and the results will eventually take care of themselves. Thanks for sharing that process with all of us.

Ain't no way she didn't scream "AND SHE SACRIFICES THE ROOOOOOOOOOOOOK" inside her head when she did it
When you think you’re done, you’ve only just begun-thank you Levy for sharing your journey
Hope you become GM!
GM Gotham rhymes so well
Thanks for sharing this journeys ups and downs. You inspired me to start playing chess and teaching my kids at the age of 30. Keep at it man!
You're amazing Levy. Much love brother.
Don’t let anything stop you Levy set backs will happen competition is always tough stick with it you’ll get through sooner or later always rooting for you
Hey Levy,
I just want you to know that you were my inspiration to improve at chess when I was like a 1000.
3:26 "Now, I used to play this way back in the day before some of you were born in like two thousand and nineteen" me hizo reír.
Love Gotham. love the person levy. The real community wants nothing but success for you. Keep working hard man. You got this!
Side note, I think Hilkaru is for u as well. Maybe some comments that weren’t ideal but I do not think malicious intent
levy is not even overthinking the moves at this point
hes overthinking his overthinking
sending love to you Levy, keep your head up, you’re doing fine- and you’re gonna do better if you don’t beat yourself up, i know it’s hard but i know you can do it. you got this m8
Thumbnail guy not get payment enough 🙂↕️💀
Levy, Chess comes with ups and downs and we enjoy watching u push for GM! Please don’t lose faith in yourself
Levy you gotta become a grandmother in 2025
Levy, I remember when I was around 10 years old and I would watch your chess commentaries. You have always been a big inspiration to me, through both the highs and the lows of the tense game of chess. Good luck in the future rounds, and I truly believe you can become a GM! As I always tell myself, one game at a time.
Hey gotham, I admire your effort and truly hope you become a grandmaster
No problem bro. You are still inspiring a lot of people. Good luck
👍
Its okay Levy, FIDE master is still pretty good.😅
☕️💀 bro at this point asking for a Demotion (IM>>>FM)
come back stronger Gotham, We all are rooting for you! ❤
We believe in you levy. Attempting an astonishingly difficult task in the midst of being an excellent chess creator and running an outstanding website is truly inspiring. Whatever you need or decide, we're behind you 100%
Dearest levy,
Don't lose your confidence, I still have hope in you.
KEEP GOING LEVY! I’m here for the whole journey.
You know, it's incredibly humbling and inspiring to see an honest man open up about his mistakes and misfortunes while pursuing his dream. We all know you can do this, Levy! You are awesome!
What an imbecile!
you almost copied the exact comment that hamsonham commented
Bot
levy, you had so many great move ideas during this game. being too scared to play decisive and out of the ordinary moves is your one weakness
You can’t become a GM, doing it part time. It’s a full time job
All I'll say is that this remains my favorite series in your channel. Always amazing.
Can believe Levy was the bay Harbor grandmaster
Dude how popular is Dexter? I just got into the show recently knowing that it’s a late 2000s classic, but I’m seeing so many bay harbor butcher jokes
@joshuastuart6776 one of the best shows I've seen
@@joshuastuart6776 Got much more popular in past year coz of clips and memes and new stuff coming out.
I remember stumbling upon your videos when I first got into chess and had absolutely no idea how to play and I was so confused when I watched your videos but you helped me discover my passion for such a beautiful game and you introduced many to the beautiful board
This series inspired me so much that I reached 2000, never give up on your goals
How long it took?
@@TONI__KROOS 5 months after coming back to chess
Never give up brother, love you and your love for chess. Makes me wanna play more and we want to see you as GM and you will get there!
3:26 I chuckled
Climbing into the arena is a gutsy move and reminds us that you know the trials you're speaking of in others' games. Trying earnestly for the GM is sufficient given your contributions to the game. Win or lose, it's a worthy thing to do.
2:35 levy sounds very depressed i dont like this man :(
Come on levy "Hope", don't lose it!! This may be a bad tournament for you but this is not the end
Noooo 😢 Hang in there Levy always love you ❤
Why hang 😭
İ really love you and your content, everyday waiting new content and especially in this Road to GM series. I’m actually not that good at chess, at least I’m not in your level Levy, but maybe, next time you play the move that you normally will not play? Just make moves that you find ridiculous and don’t think 3-4 moves away, just focus on one move play what you find ridiculous but not that bad.
P.S. whatever move you play, you win or lose, we still love you))

Levy disappears 23:56
nice
What is this
@Supersonic-vh5be I hope you search full stop in the youtube search bar.
Levy focus stop doubting yourself you got this!!!!
The "levi will never be gm" meme might be funny, but i really hope this man achieves this milestone before he retires (again). You have shown me how to play through your videos, and i climbed to 1800+ because of you. You make chess look fun and i hope you dont lose joy in it. God bless
Tips to reach 1800?
What openings did you study?
LEVY, MY MOM PASSED AWAY SEP22ND 2023 AT 53 YEARS OLD, MY 28 YEAR OLD SIS PASSED AWAY AT 28 YEARS OLD JAN, 27, 2024. I'm a huge fan
Well, iam sorry for u if this is all true.
🥲 i have no words.
All the best buddy ❤
Levy, we stand behind you no matter the result. Keep fighting!
Hey,
Dont think about what others think like you said in the last vid.
There are a BUNCH of people who dont comment / react but DEFINITELY support you a Lot...!
Great Vid.!
You can do it levy! We all live and root for you!
I love how if levy actually gets GM nobody is going to believe him because of the damn titles.
It’s almost like whenever you dropped your coach and stopped playing competitively you got worse. Shocker
Make this comment go viral so that gotham becomes GM
Yesss if he become gm its because of u WhataDrawing
I don’t think that’s how becoming a GM works
ok
Alr
Most definitely
Hey Levy,
We all cherish for you in this road to GM series, when you win it feels like we’re winning and when you lose, we lose together. No one likes to lose, but even though we will support you and always cheer for you.
You showed that sport for too many people around the world, your career in chess excedes the chess boards. In fact, every feeling that evolves around chess, for those who started playing because of you, there is a bit of Levy.
In my view, IM is probably better than GM because unlike GM title, IM title can be used to speel the word "HIM"
The comment section is so wholesome 😭❤
People who want to see Gotham becoming a GM by the end of 2025👇👇
You got this brother, you just need to stop overthinking and play with intuition. You've got amazing intuition. We're with you
We love you man. Stay patient with yourself. Your determination will carry you far.
Hey Levy,
You’re an awesome chess player and there’s nothing wrong with having emotions about your experiences. Keep up the good work on and off the chess board.
We do appreciate you Levy keep it coming Good work
I’m eagerly waiting to hear some good stuff toward becoming GM Levy you have us all rooting for you
You’ve got this. Trust your training and keep playing. You have this.
You got this. We are all rooting for you, do not give up!
If you feel bad, just know that Rose will cherish the memory of her victory over the legendary Gotham Chess for years to come.
Levy all great things take time my man keep going!
Hey I love so much your chess videos they improved my level so much thank you for everything :)
Progress isn't linear! You have lots of priorities with compelling chess coverage, relaunch of Chessly, content creation, and most importantly your wife. We're grateful for letting us into this journey
Levy don't feel down bud! We Love You and you will become a GM soon.
Don't worry Levy, we support you always. Just do what you always do and i'm sure you'll get there.
Happens to all of us, just remember, you are going to be a GM one day, keep going!
Levy even if you are not capable of reaching GM we will still love to watch your videos because it is very entertaining and water downed for us viewers which we love.Goodluck for your future games!
Hey Levy. You are getting there man. You are putting in the work and with time you will get there! You have helped fuel my love for chess. I was 400 when i first started watching and am now 900 and upwards toward 1000 (800-1000 elo is kinda rough, lots and lots of mistakes that didn't look like mistakes in the moment) You can do this man! It is a marathon, not a sprint. We all believe in you!
