To be fair he is not that good of a wrestler. He is a character based wrestler which is totally fine but unless it's against a wrestler that can carry the match, that match won't be anything good. So yeah, booking and build of the story is very important for him
I was at that Summerslam with my dad who started watching wrestling again because he liked Wade Barrett. Then super Cena won and he never watched it again xD
You know what, it is my firm belief that if they won they could have had a run similar to the shields run a couple years later. Sure not everyone was going to be a main eventer but they could all have been made superstars after all was said and done. But alas it was not meant to be.
Kevin Owen vs. Chris Jericho. Although not a disappointing match, it just should've been for the Universal Championship, since the Festival of Friendship and their feud was the best thing going that whole entire year.
I'm still depressed that they got rid of the cult music that played during their video Now with the generic background music they are no differant than what culture or partsfunknown when it comes to top ten lists
I think the best thing they can do is really lean into the fact that everybody is laughing at them because it's so ridiculous, and stop trying to pretend that they are some scary threatening faction. I gotta admit that so far "T-Bar" has at least been kinda entertaining on Twitter. I don't think they should make them a complete joke act, ala Brodus Clay & Matt Bloom, but maybe have it that they KNOW people think they're a joke & somehow use that to their advantage? Oh hell I dunno, it's late 🤷♂️
11:30 "the olympian's meddling with the game's wife" - if intentional, the use of "meddling" is quite cheeky when referring to kurt. you're great Mr. Pacitti!
I was at Mania XX. That match was one of the highlights for me. Why? Because it was the first time I remember a crowd going into business for themselves and I was part of it lol
I agree on the Hogan vs Sting match from Starrcade '97. The match was average and the finish was flat and unearned. It felt like Sting needed Bret Hart in order to win the belt.
In no particular order: - Ezekiel Jackson - Vladimir Koslov - Zeus - Chris Masters - Jeep Swenson - Kurrgan - Nathan Jones - Luther Reigns - Tank Abbott - Brad Armstrong Hon. Mention: Power Team USA (other than Flash and Justice)
Unbelievably, on 31 December 1997, WCW the biggest wrestling organization on the planet was just 1182 days from going out of business. And it all started with the clusterbomb that was Hogan/Sting at Starrcade 97.
Anymore for me Christmas Day just means a super busy day at work since we're pretty much the only restaurant that's open and literally EVERYONE has to work that day.
Edge Royal Rumble return got me so excited I was hyped to see Edge vs AJ Styles or Edge vs Seth Rollins or even Edge vs Samoa Joe but nope an injury came up to sideline him and now I don't think any of those matches will ever happen
He only came back on a VERY limited match schedule. He was only slated for 3 matches this year (outside the rumble) because his neck is still a severe risk. So he was put into a feud that made sense to wait months in between. He and randy have history, not many guys today have that with edge, so having those month long breaks would water down the other star. An Orton feud was likely something edge wanted that made him REALLY want to come back
@@Dem0nality yes I understand he needs to be limited to a few matches due to his injuries but I can imagine those kind if matches especially the promos
Randy Orton ranges from one of the best homemade WWE stars, the most unmotivated wrestler. Him and Brock Lesnar are similar in that if they aren't happy with their opponent, or their feud they'll just half-ass it, and you can easily see when that happens
I disagree about the Taz vs Sabu match. I thought it was great and what it should have been. Sabu trying to fly and Taz trying to ground and pound. Taz broke Sabus nose in the first few minutes and it felt like they really wanted to hurt each other from there.
the match was good (although a little too long personal 35 min maximum otherwise I have difficulty to stay fully invested). But the real problem was that there was no crowd. Serious orton and edge, 2 legend fighting for the 1st time at WM this match really deserved a crowd. the match lacked atmosphere, that beautiful electrifying music that a crowd is supposed to produce.
Eeeeeehhhhhh I don't know if the build up between Bray and Orton was "amazing"... it was good, but mostly when Harper was involved (should've been a triple threat).
Harper was the most over wrestler on smack down, and they even teased him being included in the match, but they booked him to lose against aj styles in the #1 contenders match, and AJ didn’t even go on to compete for the title anyway
Another one was Lesnar vs Reigns at WM 34. Heated rivalry in the weeks prior and a finisher fest at the event. The absolutly opposite to what we had at WM 31 (poor development, great match).
also their "Greatest Match Ever" i put that in my top 20 matches of All Time! it actually lived up to the hype, but not the "greatest match ever". it was great, but not the best ever
No, I enjoyed it too. It was intense and told a great story. Edge frantically checking he could still move his fingers after Orton hit a jarring move to his head/neck is just fantastic subtle story telling. It was a little long, but there was a reason for everything. I think it'll be re-evaluated in the future as an under rated gem.
Hated the Orton-Wyatt feud, just a version of Randy's Authority swerve from a couple years prior, only more drawn out. Also neglected to mention it continued on thru a "House of Horrors" Match at Payback. Thought the stipulation wasn't the problem with Triple H-Orton, it was the WWE still trying to execute blood feuds at the start of the PG Era. But Trips needed to either retain cleanly or (preferably) destroy Orton and lose the title in the process. He just got to keep his cake and eat it too.
I was let down by the match Big Show and Randy Orton (oh hey) had during that whole Authority business (2013?). I was totally behind Big Show until I saw how sloppy things went.
Triple H vs. Orton should have been a brutal, violent, bloody, brawl with weapons, Legacy and the McMahon's getting involved, etc. That would have at least made sense given the build up. Lord Hogan's ego KILLED the Starrcade 97 ME, what a waste. You could also probably put Becky vs. Ronda vs. Charlotte here as well.
Becky/Charlotte/Ronda was like, fine? I guess? The botched finish really knocked the wind out of it, as did it being at the end of a 43 year PPV, as did Charlotte being there for no fucking reason, but it was still sort of okay.
How ironic and appropriate is the name of this title. Most of the matches had terrible bills granted they all had terrible matches just like this list.
Bruh that's a lil too much, the nWo literally seemed to blur reality with the whole Hall and Nash invading from WWE storyline. Plus, Hogan turning heel was massive. The Nexus had only one good day, which was their debut. TV was PG back then, remember?
The match between Hogan and Sting WAS ridiculously bad, especially in comparison to the build, but another aspect of it that people seem to overlook is that Luger defeated Hogan for the title on Nitro, showing us that WCW didn't even need Sting to get one over on Hollywood. Hogan should have been undefeated for the entire time Sting was in the rafters, then he should have been completely trounced in the Starrcade match, leading to the disbanding of the nWo (for good), allowing the promotion to move on to something else.
Wcw had so much potential. Too much ego in the back. All because a wrestler doesn’t want to lose. I find it silly that someone would care about winning a pre determined outcome. For someone to win means someone agreed to be the loser. Performing & giving the fans a great wrestling match is far more important. The winner should always be what makes the most sense... But always prioritize on putting a great show. Sad wcw went out the way they did with all that talent.
Edge vs Orton at Mania was one of the better matches at Mania. Other than the fact that it was long, of course. It felt more intense with no one there. Like at some points it felt like Edge and Randy Orton legit hated each other.
How did you miss Triple H vs Booker T!?! The way they booked the buildup that one, anything less than Booker beating Triple H and becoming champion would be a disappointment. Yet the match ended with Triple H using his shovel and burying Booker!
I won't blame Edge and Randy Orton. It was just bad timing. I think if Edge and Randy Orton are to clash at WrestleMania 37, it should be a Last Man Standing Match.
Brook was a better worker than Goldberg. Goldberg wanted to relive the streak by running through competition brook wanted a real wrestling match and if u haven't read William regals book a wrestling match is Goldberg's kryptonite so creative made the decision and the fans suffered for their love of the sport.
did not listen to you or what ? the match was good (although a little too long personal 35 min maximum otherwise I have difficulty to stay fully invested). But the real problem was that there was no crowd. Serious orton and edge, 2 legend fighting for the 1st time at WM this match really deserved a crowd. the match lacked atmosphere, that beautiful electrifying music that a crowd is supposed to produce.
I appreciate the recognition that Bray Wyatt matches are consistently hampered by the booking, and not Bray himself.
To be fair he is not that good of a wrestler. He is a character based wrestler which is totally fine but unless it's against a wrestler that can carry the match, that match won't be anything good. So yeah, booking and build of the story is very important for him

You should do the opposite next, 10 Disappointing Builds That Lead to Amazing Matches
Nick MvP Brock vs Reigns Mania 31.
HHH and Stephanie vs Angle and Rousey.
Finn vs AJ at TLC had no build up, and it's disappointing that it didn't
Shida vs Thunder Rosa at All Out
If you discount their previous history in 1996 then Undertaker vs Mankind - King of the Ring ‘98 is at the top of the list imo.
I still cry sometimes thinking about how the Nexus lost.
Pass the tissue.
I was at that Summerslam with my dad who started watching wrestling again because he liked Wade Barrett. Then super Cena won and he never watched it again xD
Cena wanted to peeps to have a happy ending instead of moving talent forward...nice...

Like that match featured Bryan’s return which ruled but then the rest of the match happened
Kevin Owen vs. Chris Jericho. Although not a disappointing match, it just should've been for the Universal Championship, since the Festival of Friendship and their feud was the best thing going that whole entire year.

Retribution will be the nexus at Survivor Series this year
I don't think they'll be treated nearly that nice
That would imply that Retribution was booked well and like an actual threat at one point in time.

John Cena vs. Mark Henry at Money in the Bank 2013. One of the most famous non-Punk promos of the era and it leads to a blah match in the undercard.
