So, I performed this glitch myself, taking a savestate and comparing the RAM before (with a green Yoshi), and one afterward, with the gold one. After comparing the RAM, and then fashioning some cheats, I've found something interesting, and likely the reason that this color Yoshi doesn't transfer to the overworld. There's two bytes that determine Yoshi status: 7E0DC1, which is either 00, or 01 and says whether you are, or aren't riding a Yoshi 7E13C7, which can range from 00 to at least 0F, determining the color. Even numbers give the 'normal' Yoshi, while odd numbers give the 'hammerhead' Yoshi (that funky one with the head of a Chuck, and a Hammer Bro's hammer for a body, thus the name) Among the even values: 00 - Gold 02 - Silver 04 - Yellow 06 - Blue 08 - Red 0A - Green 0C - 'Black' (more a dark grey) 0E - Teal But notice that 00 is Gold? It's very possible that since, when you get the 'Gold' Yoshi, the color byte is 00, it's ending up reading the color as "no Yoshi" and then not giving you one when you go to the overworld.
TiberiousNeruda I can confirm that I found this yoshi by using cheat codes to change the power up in my extra slot. I didn't know why it was there but everytime I went in a level mario would be riding the yoshi (except for castles and ghost houses). and even if I lost yoshi Mario would be riding it if he went through a door/pipe. to be more specific, this is the code: 7E0DC106 .
I've never seen black or teal yoshis in SMW before today, I was able to find what black looked like but unable to find anything on the teal one. Is there any picture/video evidence of its existence online? I really want to see what it looks like. Edit: couldn't find anything online so I decided to try to figure it out in game to see it and did. The Teal yoshi turns a darkish gray one some levels, its lighter than the 'black' yoshi, though. Turns pink on the opening of Castles, you can only play as pink yoshi if you have a cheat on for taking yoshi inside castles/ghost houses.
If anyone's wondering about their powers, unfortunately they don't have any new powers that I know of, instead they share powers with the normal Yoshis. Gold Yoshi = Blue Yoshi (Wings) Silver Yoshi = Green Yoshi (No Power) Black Yoshi = Red Yoshi (Fire) Teal Yoshi = Yellow Yoshi (Earthquake)
Amazing! I actually only looked up this video because I ran into the glitch myself in Wendy's Castle with an "Always Have Yoshi" cheat code. I was literally LMAO when I noticed!

The way you get the hammer/chuck yoshis is by performing yoshification (swapping a yoshi with another item) with a tileset specific sprite

I didn't know this glitch is possible on the GBA port of the game
Yoshi went Super Saiyan!

Never knew about gold yoshi
If it's not blue, why does it fly with a green koopa shell?
I did that but I frew yoshi in a pit by accident and then beat the level at the same time and got that
It's too bad you can't keep him.
You actually can, the yoshi only doesn't show in the map. But when you enter an level, you'll be riding him.
silver yoshi i understand because it's just green yoshi with no colors, but why does he turn gold?
