- **I found this uploaded but never published video review from Feb. 4, 2019. I really can't say what happened for I put out a lot of videos in that week and maybe slipped passed me somehow. Enjoy.
Here is the newest USB powered charger from Nitecore with their UMS4. This is a feature packed intelligent charger. This works like a quick charger is a USB 3.0 or 3.1 power supply is used. The LCD display looks great and easy to read. The display is bright and clear. The fireproof housing makes this safe when charging your batteries unattended. This also features ohms resistance testing which is important specially for older cells. This USB is ideal for solar power charging or power bank charging. The build quality is top notch. Great review, Charles! I discovered that cleaning the battery terminals with isopropyl alcohol wipes and reseating the battery a few times can sometimes improve the indicated internal resistance from "Poor" to "Good". It seems that the charger also takes into account the conductivity of the battery's contact points and not just its actual internal resistance. This has saved me from discarding a few old NiMH batteries prematurely.
I don't have the UMS4 but the slightly older Nitecore UM4 charger but I should think the UMS4 may also give out inaccurate Ohms readings if the battery isn't seated optimally.
Thanks for watching!
This is one of the best battery charger reviews on UA-cam. You really helped me to decide.
Thanks for watching!
helo btwen SC4 with tht chrger whre r the best chrger?
Excellent review! Does this have charging / discharging function to check the battery actual capacity?
No. Thanks for watching!
👍. I started with the Nitecore I4 it still works like new never a issue. Now using the Miboxer C4 after you reviewed it. Now moving over to the XTar Dragon VP4 Plus.
I use that XTAR to test my cells. Thanks for watching.
Charles BridgTec yep exactly why I want one.
Any of you guys tried the vc4s? It has usb c ..
Thank you Charles I have a lot of expensive gear and good batteries. I am always surprised when people want to use a 5 dollar charger on a 50 dollar battery. I just ordered one thank you for making this video.
Thanks for watching!
Hello, I have an Imalent MS08, amazing flashlight. It is new but one of the batteries show "poor" on this charger, with 272 ohms ... thanks to your video I tested it later when fully charged and it showed Good... thanks.
YW! Thanks for watching!
Contact issue. Clean the battery ends a bit and the resistance will be lower. Try re-seating a couple of times, it will show different values, depending on the contact it makes with the sliders.
I'm between this charger and the D4 .....Any opinions ....
D4 is a slow charger. UMS4 is a faster charger. Thanks for watching!
My UMS2 cooks the Eneloop Pro AA 2500 mAh at 1000 mA charge rate (which I set manually instead of the 500 mA default). It terminates way too late at around 2800-2900 mAh charged capacity and gets the batteries hot very quickly after it passes the 2500 mAh value.
Should I perhaps try to charge them at a lower rate, let's say 700 mA? 500 mA might miss the charge termination.
I would try 800 mAh. Thanks for watching!
Hello, what's difference UM4 vs UMS4 ?

1 year later... but thanks 😅
Awesome, been meaning to buy this one for a long time
Well thanks to UA-cam new layout I was alerted to this old unpublished video review I was able to release it. Thanks for watching!
I have an Xtar 40A 20700 for my vape, should I click any buttons or just let it sit in the charging slot?
You can change it to 1A charging speed on that cell which will charge quicker. Thanks for watching!
Cool review. When 4 batteries are fully charged does it stop charging?
Yes. Thanks for watching!
What power brick is recommended for this? Like the part the USB cable plugs into.
Any QC or PD wall charger will work. At least 25w or more will do great. Thanks for watching!
@@CharlesBridgTec Thanks

Just got my own. Very good charger compared to my older same kind xtar charger it was good too but those charging clamps were really tight
Thanks for watching!
Great video, Will this charger stop charging and protect unprotected battery’s when it says full instead of over charging them?
That's is correct. Thanks for watching!
it’s 11pm, i’m ready for bed and Charles posts a video... Well, guess i don’t need Bob Ross tonight!
LOL its only 9pm here. Thanks for watching!
wow great review! does this take protected 21700 cells with built in chargers in the cell like in the ones in the imalent ms03 and the imalent ms06 batteries?
No just the unprotected versions of the 21700 cells. Thanks for watching!
@@CharlesBridgTec thank you! you are a gem!
Hey, how's it going? When I charge 18650 batteries, 4.2v and 4.3v option appears. Which should I select?
4.2v should be selected. Thanks for watching!
hi, I have 4 imalent (samsung) 3000mah 18650 batteries that seem to be overdischarged (not used for some years...)... can I restore them with this charger? the seller wrote that it should do it... what do you think?
No. Try an XTAR Dragon which has that feature. Thanks for watching!
@@CharlesBridgTec thanks! update: I let it charging all night and now batteries show 3.80v, very slow charging but, is that ok?
@@marcosguglielmetti Yeah keep a slow charge is good to bring them back.
@@CharlesBridgTec thanks a lot. I don't know anything about batteries. I am liking this flashlight a lot... It is old but well constructed and powerful. If it last for 5hs at 1000lm is ok for us. Now getting a ms08.
Some people have said in reviews that this charger is under-powered. Nitecore claims that it can charge up to 3 amps but I can't get it to go past 1.95. I connected it to multiple usb sources with PD output and it doesn't exceed that number I mentioned. Do I need some kind of special Micro USB cable to get those higher numbers? PS I put four 3,300 Mah 18650's in the slots.
Up to 3A is possible but the PD charger is to new & will not be recognized by this charger speed so a standard USB 3.1 will perform better and will get you about 2.7A. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for clarifying !@@CharlesBridgTec
Is this charger better than vapcell s4 plus or xtar vc4sl?
Those have testing abilities which the Nitecore does not but Nitecore is just as good of a charger as those. Thanks for watching!
ohm resistant represent to what...??
Higher the ohms of your cell it should be disposed of. Thanks for watching!
@@CharlesBridgTec thanks you charles your video are very helpful
Hi which is better between this and the sc4 - are there any distinguishing features that make the sc4 a better choice? Thanks for the vid 🙏🏻
It does have a few features like ohms testing which can help you determine if a cell has reached its cycle life. Thanks for watching!
Charles BridgTec thanks Charles, have you compared with the xtar vs4? I’m wondering now between the xtar and nitecore sc4..
Hi there Charles BridgTec! Just want to know what will you recommend, this UMS4 or the Nitecore SC4? What is the best charger for you between this two? Thank you in advance...
I like the UMS4 a bit over the SC4. Thanks for watching!
@@CharlesBridgTec Thank you...
Hello there, Where do I find the serial number on this charger. Thank You
The serial number is on an authentic sticker on the unit where you can scratch and verify on the Nitecore website. Thanks for watching!
Hi. Thanks for the review. Do you have the Nitecore D4 as well? If so, what is the difference please? I need the most complete one.
Yes I have the D4. Its a slow charger compared to the UMS4. Plus the has a nicer LCD screen plus you can put larger cells in in verses the older D4. Its a step up. Thanks for watching!
At this early stage of using it I'm finding it quite inconsistant, I can put an already fully charged battery and it charges it for 30min to FULL, then I take it out and put it back in and it charges for another 30min. Also, a battery is in and it says 94 Om Resistance, I take it out and put it back it says 400 Om Res, do it again, its 200. Will test with others.
Interesting. Thanks for watching!
Charles BridgTec i still like it, but after using it for a month or so it seems to do it with all batteries. Brand new Eneloop batteries chucked in n comes up with “poor” but taking it out n putting it back in “good”. Ive used Varta, Eneloop, Energizer, Olight, Nitecore and whatever is in my Thrunite torch.
You like the SC4 better?
I do. Thanks for watching!
Can you help me, My battery capacity is 0000mA but all display like charge status, IR, voltage reading is working. How do i get to display batt capacity?
If battery volatage will not display then battery is like dead and needs to be disposed of. Thanks for watching!
How can it charge at 2x 2A (total 4A) when the QC charger only provides 3A? Even their own charger (NC-USB-QC3) that they recommend as accessory on their website only provides 3A. What am I missing?
4A is for when charging 4 cells at 1A each or one cell at 4A. Thanks for watching!
My charger will not go into Quick Charge mode. Is there some buttons I am supposed to press ? It mentioned something about it will work when powered by a QC supportive device. Does that mean the block part that goes into the wall outlet ? The unit only came with a USB cord.
Yes use a quality charger that is USB 3.0 or 3.1 or the QC PD version to achieve the faster charging times. Thanks fir watching!
@@CharlesBridgTec Thanks, I guess I will need to buy one. Im shocked at how long it took to charge my batteries. I had an old EFEST LUC4 that is at least 6 years old. The power cord ended up breaking. But the old luc4 is for sure much faster.Im a little shocked to be honest. Im not sure about its specs but I would have for sure assumed the UMS4 would be faster.
Also Charles base on ur experience What is the best battery charger thanks.
Nitecore is one of the best. Also check out XTAR as well. Thanks for watching!
Can you give me the pacific name of the charger block you are using in the video or the link to buy it
This is an old review so I am unable to. Thanks for watching!
Hi, could you give a help? I bought two of these nitecore 18650 8A batteries, but they just charge up to 2787mha. Did the same occors with you?
Cells then were not drained to 2.5v so thats why the readings are like that. Its normal. Thanls for watching!
@Charles BridgTec is this the best charger right now? now im using the old intellicharger 4 to charge my four 18650 batteries but i want to replace for a new charger and was thinking of this one. And whats the difference between UMS4 and Nitecore SC4 ?
The UMS4 will charge you cells faster and has better display as well. Thanks for watching!
Is there a good guide for what the Ohm resistance should be for various battery types and sizes?
Mooch is the battery God, batterybro.com/collections/moochs-recommended Thanks for watching!
How do you select the speed of 500mah to carry out the loading?
Its automatic default at 500mAh. Thanks for watching!
I just got mine and it works great, but I have an issue; when I put 2 matched batteries in slots 1 and 2, it will look like its charging for a second or so, then the charger will reset and attempt to charge again. However, if I do S1 and S3, it has no issues. Maybe it's made that way?
Anyhow thank you for this review, have a great weekend.
Edit: put said pair in 3 and 4 with other cells in 1 and 2 and its fine now. Kinda weird, but its all good. Still kinda weird that happened.
Maybe a fluke. Thanks for watching!
Does it 100% recharge the battery to full values, e.g. Li-Ion 4.2V instead of 4.12 - 4.13?
4.2v is what it will stop at for lithium cells. Thanks for watching!

Lovely video, so much better than than other rambling videos that I earlier saw which made me climb the wall!
I am wondering if this will charge my gumstick batteries that are 66mm tall with a width of 17mm and thickness of 6.1mm. These are used in my treasure Sony Walkman collection.
These gumstick batteries have a rated capacity of 1,450mAh and says "Fast charge current = 290mA".
I cannot find a suitable charger for these old style gumstick batteries so I am wondering if I could use this USM4 unit which seems perfect, IF they would fit and charge them at the around 300mA. These Ni-Mh batteries and originally the gumsticks were Ni-Cd ones. Hard to find good Ni-Mh ones even now.
