Juan, I understand what you're trying to do with cutting the cords but if that is not something you regularly do because you have to have a whole lot in order to make any money and keep steady at it. People like Mike the scavenger, are scrappers, I enjoy your videos for the content, if you're you're not going to keep doing it to amass enough to get you some money for it, you can just leave it for the other scrappers. I see you more as a recycler of products, whether to resell, donate, or keep for yourself. If you don't feel good doing it.. then don't!! You are good as you are!☺️👍

@@TexanPicker I wish you would not cut the chords because that stuff may still be good to someone. I have seen a lot of wrong with metal recycle people. They take perfectly good stuff such as bicycles and just everything to the recycle place for .08 cents a pound or something. A bike is worth a lot more as a bike. It is crazy to me that people do this, but they do. I have seen these people. They could make a lot more money selling a bike as a bike instead of trading it in for .08 cents a pound.
I don't like the fact that with every cord u cut you ensure that it HAS TO GO TO THE DUMP!
Please don't cut the cords off items, they may still work and it really isn't worth the money you get.

@@TexanPicker that's my opinion too. I mean if people put a note on something that says it works and I'm out in the evening I don't cut the cord. However, if I come back 12 hours later in the morning and it's still there cord intact I'm cutting it.
You have to have pounds of this stuff to even make a few bucks.You do just find with what you do selling and recycling. Give the scappers who make money doing this all the time. You are always complaining you have no room, this just clutters up your garage with totes of cords.

Some items are worth too much to cut cords off. Imbeciles cut cords off of $2000 items just to make $0.02. Real smart.

Why are you cutting the cords what if someone else needs the washer or vacuum and you cut the cards off
I tested them. They didn’t work. My truck has an outlet for power. The only thing that worked was the fan but it had a broken blade so it made it wobble

Cord items especially vacuum cleaners are hard to recycle unless you are a scrapper, and take a lot of time and are mostly plastic and you don't know how they have been used. The cords have a high value. I trust Juan will investigate, he HAS a great network and determine if this will work for him. It takes a long time to collect them but they have a valuable resource in short world supply - COPPER.

I enjoy watching your channel but I cringe every time you cut the cord on an item. I know that they are being thrown away but they still might work and at least a scrapper would take the whole item to recycle. Just my thoughts. Your awesome anyway !

It makes me cringe when I see scrappers cutting cords, it means that an item that could have years more use is now headed for the landfill. I think it's sad.
To be honest it is very likely it was going to (and going to) a scrap yard

I was so glad to see you going through the jewelry. Jewelry is just one of my hobbies. Don't over look the makeup. Used makeup can be sanitized by taking an alcohol wipe and going over the top , if the makeup I'd in good condition. If not sold you can donate it to the homeless. Also, the candles sell well. New candles are expensive so if you can sell fo much less it is nice.

He’s not the only one trash picking and I thought his reason for doing this (besides making a little side money) was to keep it from filling up the landfill and helping with the environment.

The scrappers cut the cords for the copper in them. Some cords don't have copper in them. You have to check each cord until you know the difference.
If it's an electrical cord, there's a 100% chance it has copper in it because the copper conducts the electricity

I agree with you Maria. I'm surprised that Juan would do this, as he is typically a huge proponent of recycling items, but by cutting the cords all they are now is landfill!

@@TexanPicker apparently a lot of the "don't cut the cord" folk don't watch other scrapping channels, its very common to salvage the copper. At least Juan tests the appliance first to see if it works, most do not.
Juan, whatever you've been doing is perfectly fine. Please please leave that cutter in your car, please DON'T CUT THE CORD on perfectly good items. You know the majority of stuff you've taken you were able to sell. Give the other person that wants and needs that item a chance. YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS.

Yes! There is a lady who has a booth at a little mall where everything is handmade. She creates the cutest keychains, purse charms, journal tags, and bookmarkers from discarded scrap jewelery.
When my ex and I separated after 30 years of marriage, he threw all of my things in the trash. This is a heartbreaking deja vu for me! 😥

Very unlikely that people pick up washing machines for reuse. At least here, I only see them get picked up by scrappers.

More than likely that vacuum or rug cleaner doesn’t work & by cutting the cords it’s a way to make money! How many people actually take the vacuum from a trash pile & use it??? I cut cords and have for years and it always pays off and when I take my trash to the dump guess how many upright vacuums & floor cleaners do I see in there with their cords still attached?? I've cut cords from 5 vacuums at one house. These people making these comments aren't scrappers and apparently have no idea how things happen in the real world. Wow there’s so many out here in comment country bitching about him cutting cords…Go figure you have no idea how many of those vacuums & floor cleaners end up in the landfills with the cords still attached! More than likely those floor appliances doesn’t work hence why they are in the trash to begin with! Those 2 paper shredders, you cut the cords on, I cringed, cause I need one so bad and on a very fixed income and can't afford one. Those looked really nice. Sometime they jam but a lot of times they can be unjammed really easy.

If someone grabs it before then okay, but that's not their main thought. To many types of wires and different categories to sort before you sell it.
And to get more money you have to snip the ends off to get the most money. You can sell those separately for less money.
I personally dont see a problem cutting cords. The garbage man will be there in a few hours and then it all goes to the landfill. I didnt see anyone else out there grabbing a vacuum or anything else to see if it works. As a caveat, most things with electrical cords have electric motors in them that can be recycled, but that is time consuming. I say do what makes you happy.
A lot of people don’t agree with cutting the cords off. I’m kind of on the fence about it but it’s really simple to replace a cord. Most if not all of the items you cut the cord off are ending up at the dump. You just keep doing what you do, you’re the one out doing the work. Someone put it on the road with intentions of throwing it away.

Sometimes I buy bags full of broken or unpopular costume jewelry to use for craft projects at estate sales. Signed or unsigned large vintage brooches especially with "crystal/glass/diamond !ike" or large vintage metal flower enamel pins are what I look and others look for.
