    What about Vashti? Why was she called? Why did she refuse? Why did the king grieve killing Vashti? What was her spiritual role in the story?

      (As a goj, I think) the spiritual side of Wasjti is that she followed her own way and did not comply to what the king had ordered. In Judaism, you simply comply and do what is ordered from Adoisjeem. She didn't. So Wasjti is to be seen as the counterpart of Judaism. She was called by the king for one sole purpose, to reveal his greatness. She refused that because she thought she was great all by herself. The king grieved later by killing her because she was in fact all that he was. A person who does not have a God to live for, but who is in love with himself.

Genesis 3:3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die
