Hi Bernie, Some of the details you requested are on the writeup page linked in the video description. The lift was about 55mm at the front, and 25mm at the back. I went with hard springs on the front (in prep for a bulbar/winch) and soft at the back. I expect the front lift will drop back to ~40mm once the bar is fitted. There are two heavier rear spring available (300kg and 500kg constant load), but I won't need these in the immediate future, so went with the softest ones.
Hi as I said great video But I just done 1 and if you have any tips on popping the track rod ends I have changed lots of track rod ends but they were generally worn out and generally throw away but in your case you are trying to save the rubber seals as far as I know you can’t buy the rubber grease seals seperate?? How I do it if a few smacks of the Hammer don’t work is to apply a little heat using a brazing torch with a fine flame to the steel area in 1place while protecting the rubber with a spray of Water that works fine I did try to cheat by compressing the springs but would not recommend that method as it both dangerous and don’t work
Hi love the videos, they are very professional. I have a 2018 VX and have fitted a bull bat and accessory battery and the front end has dropped. What is your opinion of a 40mm lift in the front? I am told it will not cause any damage to the CV joints or boots. I am also advised I will not need a diff drop?
Your videos are extremely helpful for me to understand who the job is done right. I know I cannot do it myself, but the knowledge you provide is priceless in case of emergency I know what to look for and do temp fix to get out of tough situations. Thanks.
How did you manage to get the front shock out so easily? I’ve done what you had as well as loosening the two bolts under the lower arm, plus loosening the bushes. Still no joy
Awesome video, looking at installing the tough dog lift on my 2013 VX. How bigger tyres can you go with the lift. I currently have 285/60/R18’s. Ideally I want to go higher profile to give me some additional lift. I’m aware the difference it throws the speedo out as I currently have a 3-4 km/h variance now, so that doesn’t bother me. TIA.
@@michaelcoffey6340 Yes, I switched to Nitto Ridge Grappler. I would rate them equal for durability and performance. Ridge Grappler perhaps slightly better on dirt/gravel. The big advantage though was road noise. Much quieter than the Mickeys, especially as they wore.
What makes the lc200 nose dive? Is it designed to be that way from the factory? Can the front part be raised up even without replacing the shocks and springs?
It looks a little nose-down. But some is an optical illusion (the rear guards have to be higher to allow for the greater travel from the live axle), and some is actual (so the car looks more level when loaded/towing). You can raise the front slightly by installing spacers on top of the front struts. But only by about 10-15mm. Any more than that and you risk bottoming the struts out before you hit the bumpstops, which can destroy the struts.
Pushed the lower arm down and slipped it in. Just make sure you keep the top connected so the CVs don't come apart. It could be that your struts are longer than the Tough Dog ones. In that case, you may have to remove the pivot bolt for the lower arm to get it in. Again, just make sure the CVs stay together.
Hi sir, what click number (front and rear) you set for daily driving mix road without any addition weight (standard landcruiser like in this video) ? Thanks.
Did you ever experiment using stock spring for rear? But with TD spring on front. I feel a little bit harsh on the rear spring, but feel good on the front spring.
I need your help, my land cruiser 200 its one side more lifted than the other, that comes because i instale a lift kit in the base of the spring shock, 1.25 inch block and now cant get the normal position, the neumatic shocks stay large cant get the normal position, how i can make fix it??
Hey mate when installing the new shocks I’m going a 2.5inch lift in the front when applying pressure to the hub the make room for the shock the come out is the cv going to pop out
You need to make sure it doesn't, to be safe. Usually, just loosening the upper balljoint or removing it but leaning the spindle in while making room should be enough to keep it in place. If you can't make enough room for the length of the new shocks, then removing the bolt securing the lower arms can be an option. Again though, you need to keep the CV in place.
I'm in the market for an LC 200. I'v found one that has AHC, what does actually raise the truck? is it air bags? and can I use same as the suspension you installed without losing the AHC?
How difficult was it to install the sway bar link back into the mount? Heard of stories guys having a hard time putting it back. Did you do anything special installing it back?
Not particularly difficult. Just make sure the KDSS valves are open. You may need to manipulate the front one into position with a screwdriver or small pry bar
Hi Mate thanks for movie its very help full as i'm currently doing this now. Question do you undo the KDSS shutter valves when all the weight is off the vehicle and supported via stands? or does it not matter? that my interpretation of it Cheers
Very well presented. I'm looking to transfer suspension kit from my old car 2014 to the new shape 2015, the new one equipped with KDSS unlike the old car, do you think the hardware will fit both cars? Thanks in advance!
All good. Dealing with kdss bars is the most annoying, some tie rods been super stuck had to ignore it (work on tight space), about 10mm lean to the right. but swap is done successfully and I just saved $??? {{{{{THANKS AGAIN FOR THE FANTASTIC GUIDE}}}}}
I got random results with this, but finally I got it worked perfectly with the below method. It's in Arabic but following the video is enough to get it. ua-cam.com/video/KBj7aWVgwZI/v-deo.html
Edgar Lubulellah Sorry mate, not sure. Height control isn't available in Australia, so I'm not sure what's available for it. You'd need to check with your local suppliers.
+Stephanie Musca If you don't plan on reusing the old shocks, you can grip the shaft or stone guard with vice-grips or stillsons. If you do plan on reusing them, then you may be able to grip the stone guard with a small oil-filter wrench.
I am refitted a new front right side shock absorber on the same model. But finally the right side of the vehicle hight is lower than the other side.. How its corrected pls advise me because now I am in a big trouble pls sir
If you have KDSS, then try this: www.project200.com.au/kdss-balance-lean/ If you don't have KDSS, then the new shock must be too short and you'll need to replace it with the correct part.
BP-51s (and other premium remote res monotubes) are in a different class to these shocks. You probably wouldn't notice the difference in normal driving conditions, but in extreme conditions, the larger oil capacity of remote res shocks mean less fade. They also have more adjustability. On the flip side, they cost between 2 and 4 times more, depending on the brand.
KDSS vehicles have standard shocks. The KDSS system has two hydraulic rams connected to the front and rear sway bars. Essentially the system controls how much movement is allowed by the sway bars. At high speed/on road (i.e.: front and rear leaning the same way), the KDSS reduces body roll. But at low speed/off road, where you want wheel articulation (e.g. front left/rear right dropping into a hole), the KDSS reduces the action of the sway bars, allowing better wheel travel. It is a purely mechanical system. There's no connections to the computer/ECU etc.
Thanks for your explanation! this sounds like a maintenance free system. I have 2003 4Runner which has the X-REAS system, the shocks are connected by hydraulic lines diagonally, and to replace a leaking shock is crazily expensive. I guess the KDSS would be less costly to own since the sway bars don't need to be replaced like the shocks.
great instructions, good video. How much lift did you get? what was the tough dog "kit" details? Lift? Load capacity? Spring type? (soft medium?) thanks Bernie.
You have to be in N to change to low. If you were in N, and it still won't change then there could be a fault in the transfer case actuator. Try repeating a few times.
Mine are still going strong after 4 years including some pretty severe use, and I won't hesitate to use them again. They aren't in the same class at the big remote reservoir stuff that has been emerging lately, but they also don't cost anywhere near as much.
i was looking at either a TD or dobinsons setup for my 100 series land cruiser can't decide. i don't have enough for the adjustable so just the foam cell tour flex or a nice monster dobinsons setup 2"
Yes, it has KDSS fitted. You need to loosen the two KDSS balance screws as per the video when you install the suspension, then tighten them again afterwards.
Thanks for your video. I learned alot using it on my 200 but wasn't able to get enough flex to get the bottom of the strut out. I found another method and used it half way through and it worked for me. I was done in an hour afterward. ua-cam.com/video/n5UabdD1Q6s/v-deo.html I hope this helps. You both have valid method to perform this task but the other worked better for me to get the flex.
I'm saving this video for a future reference when it's my time to get Tough Dog suspensions. Thank you very much for sharing this.

an excellent tutorial ! well done aussie images.
Is there a leveling kit only to lift up the nose dive/rake?
If u undo the bottom control arm bolts they will fall in and not stress the bushes

after replacing replacing old shocks with new standard shocks.... do i need to adjust the heights? or the the heights will not change?
Unless the ones you replaced were sagged, then the heights will not change.
Did you have to loosen the lower control arm bushes to get the lower control arm to drop?
You should't have to, but it may make it drop slightly further if you're having trouble getting the strut out.
