They are divided up differently here in the States...some of it must be due to the kennel clubs having slightly different interpretations of the purposes for which the dogs were originally used...
@KelseyTVS Giant Schnauzers are in the Working group, but I agree with Puscal...have the next-choice Bulldog, Pekingese, Clumber Spaniel, etc., vet-checked, so that the breeds can be represented and have a shot at winning the group. :/
Surely it would be smarter to vet the dogs BEFORE the breed level judging thus the utility group would have a full quota of breeds including the Bulldog
@ShibasRGreat It's the equivalent of the AKC'S Non-Sporting group...sort of the "miscellaneous" category for breeds that don't quite fit into any other. "Utility" refers to the fact that they were bred for some purpose not exactly aligning with any of the other groups. Some may be debatable, however...personally, I wish that at least the two larger Poodles were still classified as Sporting/Gundogs. But, this is the way it's been for some time now.
@nynkakees yes I am aware of what the standard calls for. The woman annoucer made several rediculous remarks about breeds during her commentary yesterday (first she needs to look up the work Cobby to know what it means) but she used the word rolling gate to define the chows movement in this video. This chow has lovely movement but it is not rolling!
It would, to an extent. However, it's worth considering just how many dogs are showed even before the breed level class. Before that class the go through Adults; female, and male, Pups; again female and male, and Senior; yes, again, female and male. And if you consider all those dogs, for every breed.. that is a huge number, and thoroughly vetting them would take an enormous amount of time. I doubt they would be able to fit it all in to the time allowed for the show.
Why was there no Shih Tzu in the line up, I thought they were in the Utility group? Was it because none of the breed shown got to the standard to win BOB?
@Skywalker91 Haha, you may have a point. ^^; I know the AKC is looking into breaking its groups up differently, because as they recognize more and more breeds, the groups are going to become too large for the rings. I rather like the idea of them breaking some of the groups down and splitting them up a bit...not giving the Dachshund its own special one, though. XD Guess they can stay with scenthounds, though some believe they're more terrier-like...
congratulations to all the stunning winners of BOB and Group awards.
The Japanese Akita's Handler did a wonderful job.
Yes! Frank the French Bulldog was Bred by my mother! So Proud!
Frank the Tank!

the lhasa is in my family :) my uncles dog. were so proud she won haha
I like the way he explained the group name...I prefer it to our American name of "Non-Sporting."

Loving the keeshond (mainly because i have one!)
WOW nº 2 Keeshond!!!!
@puscal I'm not sure, I don't know much about the fine details of dog shows. Isn't a Giant Schnauzer missing too? Or are they in a different group?
my dog is a tibet terrier !!! best dog ever

@KelseyTVS if im not mistaken, should the runner up BOB replace the BOB in this case? it's sad no bulldogs were present in the group..
@Monetfbd you got that right!
@puscal I think they said the best of breed bulldog didn't pass the vet's exam so couldn't move on. I dunno about the pekingese, though.
The chow does not have a ROLLING GATE!!!!
They need to learn what a "Rolling Gate" mean!
@Spaingler the standard calls for a stilted gait.

@PurdyBear1 The Shih Tzu shows up at about 29 minutes. The announcer called it a Tibetan Spaniel at first.....
@Skywalker91 And haha, yeah, I say and am used to hearing Shar Pei pronounced "Shar-Pay," too.
where are the bulldogs and pekingese?
And at any rate, the Peke would be in the Toy group, not the Utility.
impreesive dogs...most wonderfull breeds of the world.............luv this show
wauw, that shiba inu o.0
@Spaingler yes he is beautiful!
Did I miss the Shih Tzu? Was there no Shih Tzu in the line-up?
All lovely dogs! Not so impressed with the commentary though...
