Given the weather, the boat seems rock solid for what it is! Fantastic video, one of my faves on dinghy cruising and Drascombes. Many thanks for sharing - happy sailing :-)
Excitemented with this video. Thank you to share that moment we us. I watched you from Spain because I searching one drascombe lugged or swallow Bayraider. what is your opinion on swallow Bayraider?
Hi Sorry - I've only just realised there are viewers and comments ! Boat is in NZ now in Dunedin. I sold her to a mate and bought a keeler but now miss the small boat sailing.
+miguelangel909 Thanks - yep it was more of a blow than planned. The boat is usually very dry but I shipped some green water before taking the mainsail down and turning back - too busy to play with the camera at that time :)
This should be good, when the opening sentence includes "water pumped out from forgetting the bung and I think it's rigged". I know what I am watching for the next 10 minutes
Boat was built in UK in the Mid 70's and has found her way here in a shipping container about 10 years ago. The only major thing I've done is replace the trailer. She is very sound.
@@geoffanderson4869yeh, odd that it is a drascombe “Lugger” when it is really a Gunter. I have just bought one (a bit rough, but she floats) I have enjoyed finding out how it works and have had her out a couple of times with reduced canvas. I love that you can simply drop the main and sail upwind with just the mizzen and jib, very reassuring, particularly because I live in the Orkney islands famed for strong tides and winds. Almost took her out today, but it was gusting F6 and I haven’t sussed out reefing the main yet. Soon though😃
Someone set out to solo sailed one of these in stages around the world. Stopped because he got arrested suspected of being a spy by Saudi Arabians. He wrote a couple of books about the voyage .
Great handling, good to see how seaworthy the boat is. Thanks for video!
Crikey, a bit too rough for me, but lovely green seas. The whole thing put me in mind of Captain Blygh's open boat voyage from The Bounty.

Thank you - boat has always felt safe and has never failed to get me out of trouble.
Great video. The boat seems really solid in those conditions, which always look smaller on video.
Thanks - it was a great day out

She sails well under jib alone in that breeze. Is the mizzen up also? Lovely rig, and boat.
Mizzen was up which gives best balance reaching - you can steer the boat with the mizzen sheet if you feel like it. Down wind jib only works fine.
Well done, good wind good sea.
Thanks
Nice relax video.
Thanks
Nice, didn’t know that any of these were here.
Enjoyed the video and reminded me of youth - we had one at home. Is the boat still in NZ?

Very good
Seems that was a blow! I see you where bailing, does it get lots of water in??? Nice video...

when to turn back? that's good seamanship it's always the right decision
That is a great video
Thanks - it was a great day out
That is one cool vid!

Out of curiosity was the boat built in NZ and how old is it.

Great sailing! Is she a wooden or F/G version? I'm building an 18' lilou2 open sailboat(stitch and glue) .
She is fibreglass. I am currently building a Welsford Sei because I miss the open boat excitement.
Cool
Looks like a Gunter rig.
It is. The brand name of the boat is "Drascombe Lugger" even though she is a gunter rigged yawl.

Don't forget David Pyle in Hermes from England to Australia.
Open Boat across the Pacific by Webb Chiles is what your thinking of.
not a lugger
