You are SPOT ON! I retired from the Air Force after 32 years in 2019. I substitute teach now and will only do it 2 days a week. Schools today are day care centers at best
It depends on the teacher. My children's school district posts their previous year's salaries. I don't know what everyone teaches but some of the salary ranges don't make sense on my end. I have seen anywhere from $46,000-$100,000+. I don't know if it is the subject, number of classes, how many different subjects or what. I may also depend upon if it is a college credit course and considered a CTE (Continuing Technical Education) class. I know that the superintendent was making a hefty paycheck though, far above the teachers. I won't even get started with the athletes and what they make, that doesn't make sense to me either.
@@hgib3I’m willing to bet that no teacher is making six figures. It’s most likely some kind of admin that makes that. Some professors make six figures, but that is NOT even close to a salary any normal teacher makes. Also, even if your school somehow pays that much, does that mean all these other teachers are lying about their low wages? You can even Google the average salary of teachers and see that they’re low not even close to six figs.
@@hgib3 The discrepancies are usually due to cost of living. Teachers in Northern California can earn up to $100,000 late in their career, yet the cost of living (rent, housing costs, taxes, etc.) in those areas is extraordinary. Girl, Teachers have one of the most difficult jobs. On top of ALL the requirements you have then you are dealing with children that have NO RESPECT for anyone then the parents AREN'T ON THE TEACHERS SIDE. GOD BLESS YOU. and THANK YOU. 😊
Yes!!! I had a parent chaperone on a field trip and she spent about an hour in the room before we left for the trip. After that the mom said "I don't know how you do it!" It was an eye opener for her to see what we do in school and that was only an hour.
Yes, field trips are usually an eye opener for parents. I've had numerous parents say the same thing to me after chaperoning a field trip and only being assigned a group of 4 or 5 students.
I think everyone should be responsible for entire week, including a all duties and a parent conference. I absolutely love, love teaching. Most of my family and friends get my “sitcom” version of the many things that I have encountered.
As a retired teacher, I said the same thing years ago… YEARS AGO! In fact, district admins were told to sub one day a week, just to remind themselves just how hard it is. School board members should do the same! Oh, wait, most school board members do NOT have teaching creds but make decisions for respective teachers & students. Maybe they visit buildings, which they should, unannounced, to see what a trying day school staff can have. I get it, my teacher profs.
I'm a custodian And have been 14 seventeen years. And i'm telling you these kids are out of control it is crazy. They need to send out a link for the parents to visit a classroom virtually without the kids. Knowing and see what there are your boogers do
I don't think that would work out because of FERPA restrictions. Parents can only have information about their own child. Classrooms have too many students for a virtual visit.
Girl, it's definitely a calling!!! Thank ya'll so very much for all that ya'll do to educate our children!!!! Prayers for peace, comfort, success and lots and lots of patience!!!!
I agree with you that every parent should sub for one day. I retired after teaching high school for 33 years. I retired at age 70! There was a situation where I could have stayed on one more year and I could have taught one more year and earned $10,000 more( the governor gave every teacher a $10,000 a year raise). Anyway, I chose to retire less money but peace of mind. I loved my job for many years but the last year I was burned out! I am glad that I chose peace of mind over money!!!! Elizabeth Goodrich, Texas

I think everyone should have to teach for a MONTH so they can see how much we TRY to accomplish (planning, copying, grading, meetings, conferences duties) AND actually teach students and meet their emotional/developmental needs. Teachers are truly miracle workers.
@beesknees: Lmao, what? No teacher makes six figures, let alone more. If you wanna complain about people being overpaid, you should go after the men who make dozens of millions of dollars each year just from running after a ball.
I did substitute teach right after I graduated from college. This was in 1992 and the level of disrepect I dealt with was unreal. I can only imagine how bad it is now!
Yes yes yes. I quit teaching and pulled all three of my kids out of public school. The insanity of ALL of it... too much for grown folks, too much for kids. So so so fun to meet you tonight at the world's best ice cream shop!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
God bless you 💛 May God comfort you and fill you with His peace. Let them speak out of ignorance. Thank you for all you do for your students and the empowerment and awareness you strive to give to teachers and the public. 🙏🏾
I teach preschool currently, and also working towards my CDA so I can teach pre school in the future! And yes, it's a calling and teachers do so much for their kids and HAVE to be creative!!
Girl, preach. I left the field two years ago after 20 in. The only difference was my principal was all about herself and the kids didn’t know what she looked like. Makes it worse than it already is. I miss my kids and love them so much, but some days I wasn’t sure I would make it one more. I’m writing a book about all the secrets we have to keep as teachers just so we can keep our jobs. Almost all of them are of the gaslighting, intimidation, retaliation, etc. Spring Break will be here soon!
They still would not know the pressures teachers have from the state and school boards. The pressure for high test scores, the angry parents, the stifling curriculums, the lack of supplies. Subs don't have to deal with all those issues; all they would see is the horrible kids' behavior. Teaching is horrible in this country.
I will be honest, I am almost never absent because I am afraid for substitute teachers. Before I am absent I make sure my students know that if there are negative comments left by the sub. that it will not be a good day when I return. I love my kids, I am a high school teacher, but they can be very mean to a sub. This year I have had to break my streak of not being absent for 7 years and the only reason I was absent was because I had to go to IB/AP training. Before the 7 years I missed due to Jury duty, Parents we do not complain about being a teacher, I love my job and I love my students. I have been really lucky this year with the students that I have, what we complain about is everything else that comes with teaching. Behavior problems in the classroom should not exist, if you help us out with your kids behavior at home, we (meaning me and the rest of the students in class) can make it a successful year and we can focus on what we need to learn. I enjoy teaching but we can use a little of your help. 🙂
Hence why I chose to not go down the teaching route especially after a friend (who was student teaching at the time) was told to go back to China despite her being born and raised here in the US...
You speak the truth, some of the sixth grader in my city are just disrespectful. I am a substitute teacher and some of those students are just not right! But, girl, there are some that I am like. OH HELL NO! BYE!
We should make it mandatory for parents. If your kid goes to the school, you have to substitute one year a day. Like jury duty. I think parents AND students would be better behaved lol...
I AGREE TOTALLY! I sub, 24 yrs now, and all the haters & naysayers would get a LIFE LESSON! Hands are tied in triple knots. Getting thru one day....haters deserve to be required A WEEK! Teachers are at fault when kids refuse to work, disrespect all adults? Ok, not every kid, but more and more as each year goes by. Getting close to retirement, I take it day by day now. I admire & feel for the young teachers who really try and then public school reality sets in.

Check with your school district. They all have similar but different processes and requirements. Some require a college education. Where I live, you just have to had graduated high school and pass a background check.
Agreed! Parents and children feel entitled and believe their children do no wrong. Sadly, many students have no respect for themselves or adults. Parents are not parenting because in my day- you feared the wrath of the parent if the school called! I retired in 2020. I started subbing and o tell everyone: America is in trouble! We need to empower the teachers and not the students. What I see is absolutely a broken system!
The problem is that there are teachers who deserve the high pay and then there are those who need to get paid less. I wish there was a way to make merit pay actually work for all school employees.
fucking preachhhhhhhhhhhhh, these kids are wildin and wanna act grown and tough, but dont know the difference between there, their and they're.
Two, to, and too.

Parents are not parenting because in my day- you feared the wrath of the parent if the school called! I retired in 2020. I started subbing and o tell everyone: America is in trouble! We need to empower the teachers and not the students. What I see is absolutely a broken system!
Sometimes, Im glas I sub because if I dont like the class I dont have to come back lol
