The JFK Museum and Famous Dallas BBQ

- I spent the day in Dallas at two different experiences. We started at the 6th floor museum, the JFK museum in Dallas. It was heavy as we walked through the history of that place. Then we went on the hunt for the best BBQ in Dallas and ended up at Terry Black's BBQ facing down the famous beef rib.

The principal walked into our 4th grade class & said something to the teacher, who immediately started crying. The class was absolutely silent. I’ll never forget that moment or week. The museum is well worth it.
Same experience and I was in 3rd grade.
I was also in 4th grade in Minneapolis. I don’t think I even knew at the time who JFK was but I can still see our teacher leave the room and return with a portable tv. She turned it on for us to watch was happening in Texas. I remember being glued to the tv for days. Back then tv went off the air at midnight but during this tragedy it was on 24 hrs. They day you never forget where you were or what you were doing when someone famous dies. So true.
"Mind blowing "? HORRIBLE choice of words
@@JW3213 same experience, I also was in third grade. Teacher came in crying and then the principal came in and dismissed us for the day.
@@miketrent1252 Yup, then I came home from school right into my mother crying like I never saw in my life, before or after. She was so affected and was too little to realize really why was everyone crying and so sad. My grandfather died when I was 5 and no one cried like that, so it was a mystery to me at that age.
I remember the assassination like it was yesterday even though I was 11yrs old at the time and was in school when it happened an announcement was made in school and we were all sent home for the day and this was in Canada. I remember spending hours watching everything with my family and still have a heavy heart.
Wow, that's interesting. I remember 9/11 in school and looking back I kind of wonder why we weren't sent home.
I was 4 in 1963 and remember how upset my parents were when they heard that news...Add Oklahoma bombing museum to your list..very sobering..truly well done... a great tribute to all the victims...
and again, I live in Oklahoma the bombing was unreal. The sky was overcast the whole time of the rescue. I was out of town and came home to an unreal life after that. Me and my friends donated water, dog booties the whole gamut for the rescuers. So, so, sad... and unnecessary
I think anyone who was alive in November 1963 remembers exactly where they were when they heard the news. I was 10 and living in Houston. Our teacher told us and work was done for the day. Still vivid. 😢
I remember my teacher crying
Yes I remember not only my teacher crying but students also 😢
I was 5 and saw it live on tv. My mother cried 😢
I was in 8th grade & home for lunch. Reported it when I went back & no one would believe me. Soon the announcement came over the intercom.
That terrible event and the difficult days that immediately followed live vividly in my memory. I was 11 years old. Shaken and sad, I think it was the first time I truly realized how instantly our world can change.
I was 6, they sent us home from school. Such a sense of sadness everywhere. We sat in front of the TV, watching all the things.
Terry Blacks is by far the best BBQ I have ever had. Glad to see you got some real Texas bbq before you left.
Tony, when you tasted the rib at Terry Black's and closed your eyes... I felt the joy through the screen. 🍖❤️😊
I was only 6 years old at the time and i remember my parents were crying and i also remember sitting by the TV watching the funeral and i will never forget the horse drawn carriage that carried the casket.
Ever the gracious host, thanks for taking us along for the emotional and culinary journey! You are a talented storyteller...keep sharing your adventures and we'll keep tagging along and enjoying the trips!
I am Australian and still remember that day. It was felt here, too. Fascinating to see, thanks, Tony.
Us Cruise Folks were SO HAPPY To See You and Doug at Cake Daddy’s Bakery getting some Cake Bowls 🍰 and Chicken Salad! 🐓 Manny & Kellee were SO EXCITED to have You! Thank You SO MUCH For stopping by! Like Manny said, you made his YEAR!!! 👍😍👍😍👍😍
Thanks for respectfully yet thoroughly sharing your experience at the Texas Depository and environs. Wow is all I can say about the BBQ visit! It always enhances the experience of visiting a new city to eat what locals eat!
i can see we all remember where we were when we got that news. Never forget it. Glued to the news for days/weeks. Just unbelievable. And then Bobby went down...same thing again. Thanks for sharing this. Have never been there.
Tony, I remember the day that the announcement came over the school speaker, it was as if time stopped for a moment and everyone just stood quietly. I cried and watched the funeral, etc.for days after. Thank you for taking us with you.
I had the chicken pox and was bed ridden, the first station that came out with the news was CBS in New York, I was watching that station when the news came out! There are certain things in life that are not forgotten and this was one.
I was 15 years old sitting in my high school cafeteria in study hall after lunch when the announcement was made. Being a Catholic High School, we were quickly assembled in the gymnasium and several of the history teachers spoke before ending with solemn prayers and hugs ending for the day and being dismissed at regular time. Time stopped for several days, and to this day the sound of the horse hoofs with shoes that were pulling the wagon holding President Kenny's body when hitting the pavement is so fresh in my mind. Every time I hear that sound since then that memory is invoked!!
Thanks for showing some love in DALLAS!! Yee haw!
I have been doing a lot of solo trips to avoid “Travel regrets”. Once you get over the “alone” issue the vacations seem more rewarding.
I did not expect to be struck by this video or the museum. This has just become a must see.
Two best cruise news guys together! What a cool trip.
As another user said, try Sonny Bryan's -- the original on Inwood Road, near Parkland Hospital (where Kennedy was taken after being shot). Nothing fancy -- Tables are old school desks. But it has some of the best tender smoky brisket you will ever have. Try a chopped brisket sandwich, putting their homemade bbq sauce on each bite, along with an order of onion rings. Sonny Bryan's is on Wikipedia. Sonny died many years ago, but I still remember him at the front of the line smiling and chopping the brisket.
Terry Black’s is amazing! The museum and plaza is very interesting. Glad you made it to our neck of the woods.
Bless you, Tony, for your respectful and sobered reaction to the 6th Floor Museum. That event was SEARED into so many of our souls, the same way 9/11 struck us. Glad to see Doug as well.
I'm so glad you got to The Sixth Floor Museum. It's a somber place.
I moved away from DFW several years ago, and did not know that they had a Terry Black's there. I'm so glad that you got to go eat there! YUM!!
XOXO!
Yesssss! I was beginning to wonder if I missed an upload or three. Glad you got some real deal BBQ. You made me hungry looking at it. Travel safely & I hope you enjoyed your time here in the great state of Texas!
Thanks for the journey…👍
Hey! checking in from Northern California with 17 days until my next cruise. 😊 I was in 6th grade when JFK was killed. I will never forget. Principal brought tv into our classroom so that the 6th graders would know about the tragedy that would be part of our history.
See you on the Crown, Sharon!🎉😊
Nice seeing you n Doug together 😊
Happy Saturday Tony & Jenny.
BIG thanks for the wee tour of such terrible day in history. 👍👍 Could you take as many pictures as you wanted?
I'm glad that you found some tasty BBQ. Aside from that at Buckees. 😉😃
Wife and I went to the 6th Floor museum a few years ago. As you say....very deep, especially since the news coverage and funeral are some of my earliest memories as a 6 year old.
Brings back a lot of sad memories
I was in the 3rd grade and I remembered the teacher with a horrible concern on her face and she went out and got the roll around tv on a cart with rabbit ears, and we watched it even tho it was a snowy picture. Then it was on tv non-stop for at least a week. That was hard for kids to do without their tv shows. I mean we were young, but is is something you will never forget. Then it didn't seem like no time when Ruby shot Oswald sometime later.
Did anyone else notice that as Tony was filming the "X" on the street where Kennedy was fatally wounded that a convertible was just driving over it? Gave me a chill.
Terry Black's is in Deep Ellum, home of another UA-cam channel, GTOger. Tow truck videos of cars illegally parked in the area! 😂 Great that you are enjoying your time in our great state of Texas!
i have lived in Dallas 35 years and only Driven passed 6 floor. i need to go check it out. The Place where Terry Black was is called Deep Ellum. Come back For the state Fair at the end of September into October.
Thank you for sharing. What a sad day in history ! The BBQ looked great 😁
I swear Tony, you and me are the same spirit animals. Just with your funny "Tony'isms" which are very much like what my hubby calls my "Vicki'isms", to you just saying "man, that was stupid good".. cuz I say that all the time. I LOVE it 😆🙌 12:03
I went to the bindery, 10 years ago- what an experience! Lots of places to eat in “South Beach” there within walking distance
#LaLidoLoca Hey Tony, welcome to town. Yes, we have many fine BBQ experiences. You were in what is called "Deep Ellum." Ask around as to why. I was 2Y/7M/5D and recall parts of it. Tragic indeed. My mom was one of the ladies who presented the yellow roses to Jacquie at Love Field. You always remember where you were when. And the Lego place is just down around the block from me. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip.
Wow! I was almost 4 and I also remember it. We were in the noertheast (Air Force) moving to El Paso and I remember being upset that I couldn’t watch cartoons. Only the funeral was on. We visited the original burial site of Kennedy and then when we got to Texas a few days later went through the parade route. I think you and I have to be some of the youngest people who actually remember this horrible event.
Glad you enjoyed my city
Thanks for always sharing your travels 🎉
I know what you said about going to places where tragic things happened. In Hawaii, I visited the Arizona Memorial...you could almost feel the loss even though it happened before I was born...sad😢
I’ll bet you didn’t think it would look like that easy of a shot.
And, I’m pleased you got to get one of those beef ribs at Blacks! Might fine stuff!
I will get to Dealy plaza one of these days. I think this place hits people more because either we remember the events or we know someone who does.
We ate there when we went to Dallas to also see the Kennedy museum and site. The brisket was amazing and the corn soup maybe ?? (Forget what it was called), but very unique and delicious!!
I’m from Quebec and I remember when this happened, at school everything stopped. I had no idea who JFK was but we were told it was a very sad ending for someone who was a great President. Now I live in the USA, I know the history and if I ever go to Dallas, it sure would be something I would visit.
Hi Tony - glad you enjoyed your visit to D- town. Yes bbq can be expensive especially when it is by the pound. Your big beef brontosaurus rib rings the bell because of the large bone inside!!!
The flag remains at half mast out of respect. One of our Dallas police officers was executed sitting inside of his squad car this week. RIP❤
I live in Texas and no worries Tony..nobody thought Buck ees had the best BBQ😂🚢
I know rite! It's like, well, you will learn.
Now I need to add Dallas to my travel list!
My in laws lived in Dallas. We toured the museum probably 25 years ago. It sticks with you.
My husband just went down there to see his sister and go to a funeral . Those toll roads are no joke. Keep an eye out for the bill. I think we threw away the first couple cause the envelope looked like junk mail. We thought they were payday loan crap. By the time I opened it, our $8 bill was up to $27. And they get threatening. Welcome to Dallas! 😂
One thing that stood out to me was that looking out the window (next to Oswald's) the shot doesn't look as hard as everyone says. The X's on the street are not put there by the city, they have actually tried to remove them but people keep putting them back down and Oswald's widow still lives in the area.
You made me so hungry for bbq! I can't believe it's gotten so expensive. Good thing the closest Terry Black's is farther than I want to go in traffic! Yum
WOW...that BBQ looked AMAZING. I have had some good BBQ in San Antonio when I visited, and it was handled in the same kind of way, lines etc.
Enjoyed the video, wish I had known you were in Dallas. I live in the DFW metroplex, and would love to have met you. Love your channel, keep traveling buddy.😊
6thfloor museum was great when I visited there 3 years ago, and I always go to Terry Black's, and you can buy Turkey or brisket and Mac and Cheese to go!!
Powerful...
And then delicious all in one.
Thanks for the Entertainment Mate
I was in 5th grade in 1963! We were in history class when they told us to get our chairs and walk to the cafeteria. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Been there and the moment you step in it like a rerun of that day.
Great Dallas highlights!
A fun and informative show Tony.
It is a very touching place to go
We loved it
Hey Tony, glad you went to Terry Black!!!!
That beef rib looked amazing but wow $200 for 3! I thought CA prices were high but I guess they are in TX too! 😮
I'm glad you got Terry Black's - definitely a few flights of steps above Bu-cee's! By the way, the flags in Dallas were at half staff because we lost one of our precious police officers in an execution ambush last week. So very sad.
Glad you were able to ease your regret and experience this.
Thank you for this video! Another city and sites to add to my list.😊
that barbecue looks amazing
Tony...I was 12 years old when President Kennedy was assassinated. I remember exactly what was going on in my life. I was in 6th grade...changing into my gym clothes...when the principal came over the intercom system and announced what I had happened. My sister and I were "glued" to the TV for the entire weekend and actually saw when Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald. It was surreal then...and even more surreal now. Dan and I are going to Dallas in October after we get off the Jubilee. I'm exciting about seeing the things you saw! Thanks for the great video!
I am so glad you finally got Great BBQ in Texas. ❤
It was good!
Tony, you do this so well. Love your little tours of interesting places. You make me want to jump in my car and head south from Minneapolis to Dallas. Thank you! Just booked my Bermuda cruise with Walter! Excited.
Thanks for taking us along with you, it looks like you had a great time and great barbecue! I’m a little bit jealous, but I don’t think I could eat all that. Maybe just sausage maybe a little coleslaw if they had it but that’s it but glad you had a great time. Tell Jenny I said hello, take care❤😁🛳️🦩⚓️
I was a senior in high school and I still remember that day very clearly
Oh my. You found Doug Parker. What a pair.
It was fun seeing your Dallas adventure. If I get to Dallas and go to Blacks, I'll definitely be conscious of the food's weight.
You went to Terry Blacks!?!! I’m planning a trip to Austin, and Terry Blacks is the number 1 must do on my list. Can’t wait!
“Your welcome” , from your Texas friend!
I love Bucee's brisket sandwich!!!!😂😂
And that is how it's done son! BBQ looks legit. Wham, bam, thank you mam. Bob's your uncle.
from the thumbnail alone (before reading the title) I thought for a moment you were joining one of the newfangled cruise-ship riots cutlass in hand...
not that I can really imagine you going that route, but that was my first thought when I saw this still image.
I'm in Dallas and have never been to Terry Black's. After looking at their menu and seeing that a sandwich is $19, it might be a little longer.
The Dallas Book Depository used to be open from 12pm to 2pm. Whenever I was in the area, it was closed. Guess I'll have to give it another try. Looks like they've put some money in to it since the last time I was in the area.
You would have enjoyed visiting the Legoland Discovery Center in Grapevine, Texas while you were in Dallas. I took my son there once, he found a lot of pretty neat kits.
Glad you enjoyed Blacks BBQ! You did Dallas right!
I love Terry Black's! Those beef ribs are game changing 🤤🤤🤤
I was 13 in 1963. I lived in Dallas then and still do. I was devastated when Kennedy was killed because we were watching in class. The one thing I remembered after the murder for years if you said you were from Dallas people would say oh you live where they murdered Kennedy. I hated being associated with that.
Hi Tony. All the memories came back to me from the day JFK was shot. It must have been a very heavy experience seeing all of that. Texas BBQ...wow that's expensive! It did look amazing and you certainly looked like you were in heaven. Lol. As always thank you for all you do ❤
This sounds like an interesting tour.
I was on the plaza in December 1969. It was a sobering site. I was 9 when I came home for lunch and my Mom was in shock. It was life changing.
Passed by the Robert Johnson mural with no comment. 7:24. Founder of Rock n Roll home to Big D.
Terry Blacks BBQ is a great choice!
I also thought that window was close to the street. They always talked about how Oswald was a such a sharpshooter so I assumed that it was a difficult shot
huh cool, I was just there 6 weeks ago on a business trip! love the way you documented your visit!
I was in 5 th hr History class Junior yr in high school. Unreal😢
The 6th floor museum as well as is worth seeing. You got a socond meal and a complementary food coma.
Had I paid attention that you were in the Dallas area, I would have given you the Babe of one of the best BarBQue joints & affordable. Austin's in Addison is by far one of the best I've had & the veggies are just as good!!!
I was in high school when it happened. Such a shock back then. Wow! That’s a lot of yummy looking food.
My Corp office is in Dallas. My sales team won free trip to Dallas. Being in the place where JFK was shot was a lifetime memory. We stayed at the Hyatt House right by there. I found the area smaller than I had expected also
Good choice with Black's. One of the best anywhere. I love Texas BBQ so much that I ordered a Texas Offset Smoker Pit from Aaron Franklin of Austin (another do not miss BBQ) and got it all set up in my yard late last year. A couple weeks ago I smoked 30 pounds of brisket, St. Louis Style spare ribs and beef ribs for a picnic for my car club. People lost their minds over how awesome it was - and especially the beef ribs. One rib can be close to a meal but when you smoke it and prepare it well, there's nothing better.
Tony, you simply must try Texas de Brazil with JennyB! The Picanha is wonderful!!!
Thank god you were able to find a good BBQ.
