  • Listen to the wonderful message and address of Rev. Fr. Luis Antonio Tagle to the Diocese of Imus on the day of his Episcopal Ordination and Installation as the Bishop of Imus last December 12, 2001. More endearingly called by the Imuseños as "Father Chito" and more known as their former parish priest, Fr. Luis Antonio Tagle was episcopally consecrated and installed as the 4th Bishop of Imus by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, with the mass homily delivered by Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
Exactly 10 years later (December 12, 2011), Bishop Chito Tagle would then be installed as the 32nd Archbishop of Manila and a year later (November 24, 2012), as the 7th Cardinal of the Philippines. The rest, as they say, is history.

NEW IMUS BISHOP'S MOTTO IS 'IT IS THE LORD!"
    www.inq7.net/li...
WHEN Fr. Luis Antonio "Chito" Gokim Tagle, 44, was ordained bishop of the diocese of Imus on Dec. 12 at Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral, he declared his motto "Dominus est (It is the Lord!)." It will be his guide in directing his diocese.
Taken from the Gospel of St. John (21:7), the passage tells of the apostles, led by Peter, in the sea fishing one night. They caught nothing. When the newly risen Lord appeared, He directed their fishing, but they did not recognize Him. They caught a bountiful catch, then finally the disciple whom Jesus loved (meaning St. John the Beloved) cried out to Peter: "It is the Lord."
In using this motto as indicated in his coat of arms, Bishop Tagle was entrusting to the Lord the guidance of his flock. Also, "Dominus est" meant that he will focus on the Lord. To achieve this, Bishop Tagle asked the people in his response: "Please teach me, please guide me, please stay with me."
How to accommodate priests, nuns, bishops, cardinals and the laity was a problem that needed to be solved several days before the installation. But moving as one, the whole diocese came up with the solution of opening the plaza in front of the church where other guests could be seated without needing to go inside.
At least 6,000 guests were guided by some 200 ushers in Filipiniana dress. Airene Perez from the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima in Binakayan told me that the new bishop had to get out of the church, climb three steps of a stage to be seen by the people, and bless them.
    Cardinal Sin Ordains Bishop
Jaime Cardinal Sin together with outgoing Imus Bishop Manuel Sobreviñas ordained Father Tagle. Diocesan administrator Fr. Romeo Ner read the papal bull declaring Father Chito bishop of Imus. Standing before Cardinal Sin with Fr. Catalino Arevalo, S.J. and Fr. Redentor Corpuz, Father Chito prostrated himself before the altar while the Imus Grand Choir, led by Fr. Bernie Alejo, sang the Litany of Saints.
The rite spoke of humility and total service to the Lord. The Lord is Master, the priest His servant. The congregation itself followed in this commitment to humility and service by kneeling throughout the ritual.
After the Litany, the Cardinal stood alone and sang: "Lord, be moved by our prayers, anoint your servant with the fullness of priestly grace, and bless him with spiritual power in all its richness. We ask this through Christ out Lord. Amen."
The bishop-elect approached the Cardinal Sin who laid his hands on him. Apostolic Nuncio Antonio Franco, cardinals from Taiwan and Vietnam, Cardinal Vidal, and other bishops laid their hands on Father Chito.
Afterward, the prayer of consecration was said which was the focus of episcopal ordination. Among the gifts sought for the new bishop was the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Then, Cardinal Sin anointed the bishop-elect. He then handed the Book of the Gospels to the new bishop. This followed the investiture of the ring, miter and pastoral staff.
Afterward, the Cardinal asked the new bishop to seat on the cathedral, which meant that Bishop Tagle was taking canonical possession of the diocese of Imus.
In the Offertory, the offering was done in "caracol" style. The offering was brought by dancing. Removing his miter and putting down his staff, Bishop Tagle joined his parents, Manuel and Milagros Tagle, and danced with them toward the altar. He was their offering to God. Other presenters of gifts were the five vicariates of the Diocese of Imus, the personnel of the Imus Cathedral and the Tahanan of Mabuting Pastol seminary personnel. Bishop Tagle's only brother, Manuel Tagle Jr., came all the way from Washington, D.C., for the event.

During his ordination Mass, Manila Archbishop Jaime L. Cardinal Sin and then Lipa Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales were present. Wow, three archbishops of Manila :)

More like Cardinal Jaime Sin and his two future immediate successors...
Even better.. If both the late cardinals jose tomas sanchez and Ricardo vidal are present and as well as Orlando quevedo, this could have been a rare moment where 6 cardinals(3 incumbent as of the date this event took place consisting of the late cardinals Jaime sin, tomas sanchez and Ricardo vidal and 3 future cardinals consisting of luis Antonio tagle, gaudencio rosales and Orlando quevedo) are all present at the same time

@@99mrpogi I'm not sure if then San Carlos, Negros Occ. Bishop Jose F. Advincula was present too here. If this is true, this is a MOMENT OF GRACE wherein Sin-Rosales-Tagle-Advincula are present in an episcopal ordination of one of them.

Yes, I remember that his installation in 2001 as Bishop of Imus was aired in TV5 (formerly as ABC5) and I have to agree with you that it was such a joyous occasion. The rites were done by Cardinals Sin and Vidal. I was really wondering what did they see in him to have his episcopal ordination/installation TELEVISED EVEN WAY BACK THEN, considering that Fr. Chito was not as well-known locally and internationally as he is right now. Oh well, maybe they really had foreseen what we didn't at the time - that Chito is going to become somebody really, really special someday, like he is right now.
Ah, if only I have the full copy of the installation! I would have gladly uploaded it all for you. Unfortunately, this will have to do for now.

Yes sir tj aquino. But uploading this rare video gives us joy of having a glimpse of the Cardinal's roots. I hope someone who have a copy of the full installation could see this and upload it somehow. Looking forward to see the humble Cardinal in person. Again, thanks sir Tj. God Bless.

Unbeknownst to cardinal sin himself, he has just ordained one of his future successors a possible future Filipino pope.
