  • Panasonic NV-F70 HiFi VCR, after not being used for about 9 years or so, I plug the VCR in to my TV to see if still works. We bought this VCR brand new in the very late 80's . Cost was over $1000. The "Jog and Shuttle" dial are a unique feature for editing, as is the "insert" and "audio dub" buttons.

After ten years I brought it out of storage... inserted a tape, pressed play om tape.... 100%
    So happy!
    Then I pressed [eject]
    No longer happy

one of the best videos ever made in my opinion. Like yourself we bought this in 1990 in New Zealand for $1200 NZD. My parents wore it out eventually, the heads wore and got lines on the picture. Don't think it ever chewed a tape in it's life. Unfortunately it didn't survive a re-arrangement of the furniture. When it got turned off to move it, it didn't turn back on.

Used to use a unit similar to this back in 1989, we used it for playing hours of music for parties, cool times!

Panasonic always made solid vcr's. I got a newer model panny, a DMR-EZ48V and it plays vhs and dvd through hdmi without issues

Nice. Thank you. I consider to get one of this for analog HiFi audio recoding. Can you please tell me what is function of a HiFi/ NORMAL MIX, and DIGITAL TRACKING ON / OFF buttons?
Is it possible to use it as a standalone audio player-recorder without even connecting it to a TV?
    Sorry on my bad English.

The Hi-Fi/ normal mix switch changes the audio output. For example, if you used the "audio dub" button to overlay another audio track, switching it to 'normal mix' will outout the audio you inserted during the audio dub. Normally for eveyday playback of a Hi-fi tape, you would leave this on Hi-fi. The 'Digital tracking' switch turns the tracking on and off. Sometimes when playing a tape, the tape shows lines running through the image, and the digital tracking will eliminate this. I dont think it affects the sound too much. In any case, just leave it in the on position. You can certainly plug the left and right RCA audio output to a line input, for example on the back of an AV receiver or anything with a line in input. The audio from the tape will play on you sound system, without a TV. Back in the days, radio stations would use this machine to playback songs going to air on long play during the overnight periods. I hope this helps.
