    My brother is in this career, he makes good money. I Dont Knows shit about networks and Computers component. But I'm about to go to school for telecommunications technician. Is it going to be super hard for me to understand since Im Clueless about it ? 😂🤣 the only technical skill I have is, hooking up a old school DVD player. And one time, I made me an antenna out of a fork

      Maria, there's some decent money to be made in this field if you have a knack for it. In the meantime you can learn a lot from this channel (and many others). You might check out my other channel which is more Cisco & network oriented - UA-cam.com/networkadvisor
      Good luck! 😀

    Fantastic video! I am in an unrelated industry but this applies to my business with minor tweaks or twerks if you're into that stuff. :)

    v been working as a low voltage tech for the last 5 years. Its a horrible job. companies treat the techs horrible. Clients treat the techs horrible. You are the face of the company so you get to take all the heat. You break your back running around from jobsite to jobsite. if you work in the construction or plant part, there is a lot of heavy lifting continuously. Most cable technicians are immigrants that iv come across and are just the worst of the worst to deal with. Pretty much this is a dead end job. I don't advise. Also its a continuous nightmare at times trying to figure out what the exact issue is, fixing other technicians work is also horrible because people take short cuts especially contractors and then when you get there as an inhouse tech you have to basically re-do the whole job. Its a terrible field to pursue. I wish i never got stuck in this field, now i cant get out. Different positions vary, but i dont recommend it what so ever. Do yourself a favor, and get a medical degree and milk the patients, that's the real way to make a living. this telecom industry is horrible.

      I won’t argue. many of the points you make are true. I’ve had many of those same experiences. Especially the part about cleaning up or undoing the mess some previous tech left.
      I have found two key things have made it work for me:
      1. Being self-employed and accepting assignments on terms I agree to. I have played that game of working for someone else and getting no respect (from customer or employer).
      2. Learning to use my communication skills to shape the outcome of customer visits. I know you get this. I have found as I have got better at this, I have been able to prevent the nightmare on site scenarios.
      Thank you for leaving your in-depth comments. It may really help
      Someone who is considering this field weigh all aspects. 😊

      @@DIYTelecom yea self employment is always the best option, especially on your terms. i got a friend currently working for himself, and he made last year alone 300k, not to sure how he is doing financially this year because of Covid.

    Protip:
    In Sweden, don't dress like that... Wear carpenters trousers and a sweatshirt/zipped sweatshirt or T-Shirt with the company's text logo on it, instead. (or what clothes the company mandates).
    If you dress like that, people will think you walked in of the street.
    :-)

      In London I find it easy to get an affordable pair of Slim fit Chinos usually navy blue or grey from say Primark, Uniqlo or Gap OUTLET store along with a Polo collared shirt, navy blue, grey or black. The colours are useful while in service as they are practical yet presentable. I then get a pair of decent black rubber soled shoes from say Clark's - the outlet store again. I usually buy from outlet stores or look for item in store and search for lower prices online if possible. After all it's work gear not a fashion show, it's Cat5e not Catwalk 🐈 :)

      +Bill V hey Bill that's great. What type if work will you be doing? Monitoring or actual repair and troubleshooting of network equipment?

    • @BVMUSICNJ
      @BVMUSICNJ 7 років тому +1

      DIY Telecom little bit of both, their operation runs off of the as400 system so monitoring that as well as responding to field calls from their other employees on network related issues.

    I find printer issues are 15minute jobs or half a day of pulling your hair out.

      +bennettste indeed my friend! probably the trickiest part of the being a field tech. What should be a 1 hr job has the potential to blowup your whole day. ☹️

      DIY Telecom just joking. After I finish my school, start as a field tech. hopefully I can get with AT&T that's where my brother works

    • @DIYTelecom
      @DIYTelecom  6 років тому +1

      yes, AT&T is a nice gig if you can get it. You what's really hot now in telecom is Voice over IP or "VoIP" for short. Keep an eye out for that. Anything you can learn about VoIP will help you because that is where the industry is going.

    Worked 33 years for V---N . First 32 years were great , unlimited overtime, new technologies every 6 months. Then they hired women and male supervisors straight out of college . . First offer to leave and everyone eligible left . Went to gold standard of service to worst than cable companies.

      I see your point. They are still my go-to to for cellular. Maybe not the fasted (anymore). And, definitely not the cheapest. but when you are in far-flung locations they are usually the ones who can get you signal when no one else can.
      As for POTS, I think that is dying more quickly with each passing year. VoIP is coming in fast. It’s cheap and very flexible.
      Thanks for adding to the conversation 😊
