How much I like you! Man, UA-cam just notified me your video was up, so I literally pulled over, turned on my car sound system and watched the video on the side of the road, as I'm driving home from the mall. I only paused for 20 seconds, as my wife called to see what is taking me so long to get home with the pizza? 😂😂
Hi Peter I'm Mustafa from Iraq and since I started watching your videos my life started to change for the better and once I watch any video for you i feel happy watching the pictures you take and the movies you make make me love life, photography and filmmaking thank you for every single video you make
My favourite video to date, beautiful. Made me remember my Grandfather and how he used to disappear into his tool shed for days at a time. I used to ask what he was doing and stand outside the door trying to peek in. He would never let me see though, until he was finished and he would produce some of the most amazing wooden toys. He would then give them away to less fortunate kids, and sometimes he would make one or two for me. Thank you for taking me home to happy times.
So I watched the TED talk you linked right after watching your video and you're right, it's absolutely amazing. Don't open the box and keep the mystery alive! And speaking for those of us who are subscribers/followers, we look forward to seeing more mystery boxes from you. Thanks for the inspiration as always.
Pete, you really killed it with this video. The video you made is not only about how to tell a great story but at the same time you told a great story yourself. Thanks for reminding me that there's a bigger objective to photography than composure. It's the story you tell that counts. Cheers.
JJ's mistery box Ted Talk also had a huge impact on me. I was in high School at the time, trying to choose a career at 16 (in Brazil, you have to choose a major before you apply for college). And while everyone around me wanted to pursue Med School, Law or Engineering, I could only think of How special and life changing storytelling really is.. so at that moment I Just knew that THAT was what I would do with my life. One way or another, storytelling became like a mission.
I just watched ted Talks episode with JJ. Wow! Mind blown! I love that! So true. I never thought about mystery being just THAT much better than knowledge. This really opened my eyes to truly enjoy whatever it is I'm presently doing, plan to do and CONSISTENTLY do for the rest of my life. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Your mystery vs. knowledge is perfectly matched with photography! It can be used as a reporting/documentation tool, but also art - and really, everything in between! Keep up the great content, Peter!
Yes, loved this! Also cool to see a former ellusionist man hanging with the man behind t11. I feel a little privileged knowing more on all of this stuff than most of your viewers haha
Hey Pete, I fully understand your decision. "Not opening the box" would be an "mission impossible" for me! Nice story and keep up the good work. It's a pleasure to see your posts and I learn so much about it. Grtz
I just wanna say inspiring as always, I can not beggin to tell how much I have improved in the past few months thanks to your tips and whatching you speak about this passion that we share which is photography. You, and some other awesome photographers/UA-camrs, have rekindle my love for photography and started a new curiosity for videography. Thank you so much for sharing all of these Peter. All the best 👍
so I just watched the ted talk gr8 inspiring .. so When I was a little kid 50 plus years ago .. I was watching a scary movie with my dad who took me out into the hall & with the lights off he held me up in front of the hallway mirror & using a torch & just shining it on my head from all different angles he explained how it could look scary ( from beneath ) normal from up high like daylight etc .. he also explained the photo graphy literally meant painting with light & being an art student went on to explain caravaggio pin hole cameras etc .. & ever since then I have always looked at how things are lit .. ( moonshots shadows waving flag ?? ) but every time I see that its time for a new peter McKinnon vid its a mystery box I can't wait to open .. cheers pete
I love your videos Peter, i'm 16 and aspiring to get as ahead in photography as soon as possible and all your videos make it fun and full of insight. Thanks dude
Peter man....I've been following your channel for a minute now and admired the quality of your content so I just want to start by saying THANK YOU. last year I started a Vlog with my girlfriend at the time, and we had an amazing time with it over the span of a few months. Long story short the Vlog doesn't exist anymore, nor does the relationship. I've been teetering back-and-forth on whether or not to start a new channel and your video just put me over the top. The issue is, most of the equipment we used for the channel was actually hers, I'm hustling hard to afford a new camera but with making rent in LA and working on other freelance projects it's really tough to pocket any cash at the moment. I tried entering your last giveaway and unfortunately wasn't able to come away with a prize, but I could really REALLY use this Mark IV. This 5D is the missing piece to restarting MY OWN channel and getting me to the next level. It's the missing piece to follow MY DREAMS. Either way, thanks for the inspiration. With or without winning your giveaway I know I'll make it happen, it will just take a little longer. Thanks again for all of your great content my friend and congratulations on the MILLION SUBSCRIBERS 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼.
For a while now, I was like man... this dude cinematography is off the chart! But, I just realized that I keep coming back for the way you tell your stories... Awesome, Dude!
Hi Peter, Awesome video as always! Thanks a lot for sharing your positivity with us! It really helps me to keep going on my own filmmaking and storytelling journey!
Pete I know JB from Theory11, and I'm also a kind of ex-magician. Man, I got goosebumps on this one. It's such a great feeling just thinking about having the Mystery Box and not opening it. The Mystery level, I can say, is 999999999.
I watched the JJ Abrams Ted talk. I've never watched a Ted talk before. That was awesome. It is the mystery in everything. The unknown. I think that it would literally drive my crazy not opening the box though. I would want to know what was in it. Peter, I've got to say, I've watched you for awhile now. You have the greatest personality. This is why I watch you. I love taking pictures. It is my passion. Watching your vlogs has helped me greatly become a better photographer. I look forward to watching your video's because you are personal but you provide good information. Thank you for doing what you do. I really appreciate it. I will continue to listen and I will continue to grow a craft that has now become the air I breathe. I also love Canon. I have a Rebel T6 right now but I am hoping for a different camera eventually (an upgrade from Canon). Thanks! Mary
Dude Peter, the storytelling on this episode was magic. Always open up my mind to new ways to film. Thank you! P.s. I wouldn't open the box, your right the mystery is more valuable than the answers
Already watched JJ Abrams TedTalk. Yeah! Agreed with you. Just keep it mystery. Let the curiosity pumping anytime you pass-by that shelf. You've make my day. Love from newbie in Malaysia.
Thank you, Peter, for all of your ideas. The idea of mystery is especially compelling. I am planning out a psychologial/philosophical/cinematic romp of a vlog and will incorporate mystery as a foundational idea.
Lost is literally my favorite series (and obviously also the best series ever made) and I make a point of it to binge watch the entire series at least once a year...... If you haven't watched it, do so right now......
It's funny and ironic because I've followed theory 11 for some time and own the mystery box deck as well as a few other decks from theory 11 and I had NO idea you were affiliated with them until now! I always looked at those pictures and thought they looked \ SO good even before I knew and understood the beauty of photography like I do now. Awesome to see it all come together
It's cool winning an Xbox One, but it's so much cooler winning an Xbox One given by Peter! Thank you sooo much, man! I really, really appreciate it! I sent a reply to your email! :)
The light, the camera... anything vlog related and aided I'm SO psyched to have a chance to win. Thanks so much for paying it forward like this. Love it!
Well this is going to kill me hahah, watching every next video with the tought of what's inside the box is a genious move for having people's atention. Respect
I've watched my fair share of TED talks. And that was one of the best, without a doubt. Thank you for sharing such a powerful message with us Peter! Inspired ❤️
What a great story. I feel sometimes we get caught up and do not appreciate the value in everyday life. That box as hard as it would be not to open I think represents a feeling that we all love and to be able to sustain it by not opening it would be cool.
I just realized this is why I choose to do what I do... I ALWAYS try to choose areas that are not solved - I'm studying to become a Psychotherapist and there is just SO MUCH we don't know about the human psyche - love the idea of -not knowing is more compelling than knowing!
Thanks so much for sharing this Peter! I think there's something amazing about looking at the big picture when you receive an awesome gift. Love your perspective man!
Actually to add to that, now that I think of it. My wife and I, when we said our I do's, we have a single box that we both put something in that the other doesn't know about along with the groomsman and bridesmaids adding to it as well. We are supposedly suppose to open it after "5 years" or the first big fight. But now I don't want to open it LOL
I swear you're the only UA-camr who's vlogs and vids I don't get bored halfway through of, Also the b-roll you did in the uber with the spinning wheel on your sunglasses was awesome. :)
I love this idea and the mystery of not knowing. I think knowledge is power but perhaps mystery can stir the emotions. Thank you as always for the great content. I said in one of your previous videos that I was gonna try making a video and I did! Obviously it wasn't amazing but I think I'll be watching it years from now as it is a tribute to my baby who is growing too fast.
Is it ironic that now i know what the ted talk is about i dont particularly want to watch it but if pete left more mystery around it id be way more intrigued? awesome message dude!
I totally remember seeing that TED Talk back in the day. I've used the technique several times in the public speaking that I do. Great concept! Love that you didn't open it!
Would you open the box?
If it had tickets to the Spacestation I would!!

Peter McKinnon HELL Yeah open that box!!! And peter ur the G.O.A.T. Come to LA!!?

The story telling in this one is really really good!
Love it!

I was looking forward to discovering what was in that box.
Susan A same here i wanted to see what was in it
So I watched the TED talk you linked right after watching your video and you're right, it's absolutely amazing. Don't open the box and keep the mystery alive! Hey Pete awesome video!
Btw is it weird that i dont want the camera, the light or the lens i just want the cards, hat, coffee and presets.
JJ's mistery box Ted Talk also had a huge impact on me. I was in high School at the time, trying to choose a career at 16 (in Brazil, you have to choose a major before you apply for college). Good luck on everyone who entered in the competition.
I love the idea of not opening the box. It just stays a mystery. Very Cool way to think about it. Great Video Brother!
Your mystery vs. knowledge is perfectly matched with photography! It can be used as a reporting/documentation tool, but also art - and really, everything in between! Keep up the great content, Peter!

Yes. You get a heart.

Richard Castilho - Positive Lifestyle same
Omg I literally love the style of JB's house, i fell in love with this type of apartment since I whatched "New Girl"
Why have I never questioned how that rubix cube got into the jar?
10ACITY bruh thats what I want to know
My guess jar has no bottom or its a “ship in a bottle” kinda thing. Rubix cube was taken apart and pieced together inside the jar.
Peter, you have inspired me to keep trying my hand at photography. I would like to say thank you
I wonder what wud have happened if he made this video before quiting his previous job
It's Schrodinger's Box. It's both an amazing item, and completely empty, until you open it.
31 views and 110 likes?
That's my point. I saw 36 views and 174 likes!! How??
But counts likes fast!!
That apartment would be really inspiring, the hall, the view, even the interior lighting is perfect in that place!
Well this is going to kill me hahah, watching every next video with the tought of what's inside the box is a genious move for having people's atention. Respect
Awesome! Thanks Peter for taking us on your journey! If you ever want to film or take pictures, hit me up!
Oh that's awesome - I bought some Charity:Water cards from Theory11 many years ago. Loved them and still do.
I've watched my fair share of TED talks. And that was one of the best, without a doubt. Thank you for sharing such a powerful message with us Peter! Inspired ❤️

Actually to add to that, now that I think of it. My wife and I, when we said our I do's, we have a single box that we both put something in that the other doesn't know about along with the groomsman and bridesmaids adding to it as well.
