even though the fps in the cpu over head section seems around the same with rt ultra performance upscaling it is still way more cpu limited on the 4090 than the xtx which is why the gpu on amd was pulling 400 watts and the 4090 was pulling less than 300 watts with the gpu usage at around 80 percent vs 98 percent usage on the amd gpu
Yeah but you see something similar in the last 2 chapters, DLSS/FSR Quality and Blanace FPS doesnt change much between both GPU's, regressing a bit in balance but 4090 is higher overall in both. It looks like a CPU bound scenario. I had another example I was going to put in the video of a CPU bound RT test for both in a different location but removed it in favor of the second chapter one I put together. In both when RT was enabled FPS was the same both 4090 and XTX, with RT OFF 4090 was ahead by 10 to 20 fps
@@TerraWare my 4090 is cpu limited when ever the power draw is below 400 watts I find just like the 7900 xtx since when I am gpu limited at 1440p native with rt on the gpu pulls around 450-420 watts
Good stuff. I believe the xtx is better at rt than we are led to believe, it just takes optimisation for the gpu, but because they are a small market share, a lot of developers do not bother.
RTAO implementation is very limited in this game, unfortunately. It barely changes visual quality vs full HBAO and cots just a few % of performance on RTX GPUs. So, in fact, this game only offers RT reflections. That is why RX GPUs do not loose much performance with enabled RT. If tnere was also RTGI and/or high quality RTAO, the result would be very different. But, yeah, RDNA 3 cards are significantly faster than RDNA 2 in terms of RT performance. They can run games with limited RT, like this one.
@stangamer1151 So I think they remain a generation behind in rt, like 3090ti class rt performance if the game is optimised well, and this will probably carry forward unless amd pull off a miracle. But it's still impressive. My xtx was definitely faster than my 3090 in most rt games, apart from nvidia sponsored like cyberpunk sometimes, but even then it was very close. I have seen games with limited rt tank on amd too, like ratchet and clank, so optimisation for rdna is definitely a thing.
@djpquickplays1244 It is more about intensity/quantity of RT effects rather than optimization. In AMD sponsored titles RT effects quality is usually pretty low. That is why AMD cards perform so well in these games. I would not call Ratchet & Clank a game with limited RT - it has RT reflections, high quality RTAO and RT shadows. So it is expected to perform significantly worse on AMD GPUs. Spider Man, for example, only includes RT reflections, so AMD cards hold pretty well in this title, despite the fact that it was sponsored by Nvidia.
@@stangamer1151 Spiderman actually has rt reflections and shadows and the xtx handily beat the 3090, even with those maxed out in detail and distance, so it must have something to do with utilising the rt part of an amd core properly. It also beat the 3090 by a margin in F1 2024 which has rt everything. I am not saying it is 4080 level, but definitely capable of hanging with nvidias best from last gen when optimised for. Which means they are making good progress at least, and if they release a 4080 level card next year with much improved rt and at a mid-range price, they could actually gain some share.
Tested and compared a bunch of different scenarios guys. DLAA vs FSR AA, CPU bound scenarios and how both GPU's behave which is kind of unusual, ray tracing, rasterization, upscaling and more. Some pretty good RT performance from the 7900XTX imo. Video came out a bit longer than I would've liked. Share your thoughts below. Thanks.
Good to see most of modern games do not have Nvidia driver overhead issue. Maybe Nvidia fixed it on the driver level. Or game devs learned how to avoid it.
The XTX does pretty well with RT as said before, just depends on how heavy the RT is The Dragon Age series i've been playing through recently and it's a crazy good series. I went through Origins, DA2 & currently playing Dragon Age Inquisition now. Really one of the best games i've played, really enjoyed Dragon Age 2 & Inquisition the best of the lot so far Origins I did like the story but hated the dated combat As i'm invested into the series now i'll take a look at Veilguard once finished
I never got into the series except playing Inquisition briefly many years ago. Played Origins for about 14 hours right before Veilguard came out. Yeah the writing in Origins is on another level. Veilguard is filled with characters not taking things very seriously, joking around, limited player choice, things are very safe. Origin painted a grim fantasy world with impactful player choice. Right in the beginning your world is turned upside down in the game. A memorable moment. The Mage Circle quest was particularly interesting when you reach the top the Templar is filled with hate against the mages because the blood mages tortured and killed his brothers, he begs you to wipe out the mage circle than risk another blood mage take over. The guy is filled with hatred towards the mages. Its so well done because its real, if you endured something like that it'd break you. Than you can decide to cleanse and save the mages or wipe them all out and lose their aid against the darkspawn. I'm 20 hours in Veilguard, these type of moments or writing is nonexistent. As an RPG Veilguard isnt really much of an RPG, not on the same level as far as writing or interesting characters. Im enjoying the combat and the adventure overall has been fun aint gonna lie. What it is is OK but a BioWare back to form RPG it is not. Not even close.
@TerraWare yeah that's exactly what I expected tbh from Veilguard with everything long term Dragon Age fans have said. I think you'd really enjoy Dragon Age 2 because that is like Origins for the RPG decision making. Totally agree with all of that, Bioware seem to have played it very safe with Veilguard which basically takes away what ppl loved about Dragon Age Bioware at their best make the characters feel life like & it's crazy good how they react like real life humans 😂 The magic spells are really good with combat also from Dragon Age 2 to Inquisition I've noticed I found it much better, Origins undoubtedly probably has the best story however

Unfortunately this game is still using FSR 2.2. If they had implemented FSR 3.1 with FG into Frostbite then the game would be quite a decent experience on the XTX going by this video. I guess players will have to mod it in like in a lot of other games.

60-75W is about average for the 7800X3D in almost all games that are CPU heavy. Pretty much all videos on this game using a 7800X3D the power draw is at about 65w. 30W is about idle power so it's possible your reporting is not working as it should.
This game is fine its not rt heavy. When u compare with any rt heavy game the 7900xtx straight goes down a few tier to compare with a 4070super. I had a 7900xtx but sent it back after a week to get a 4080super as for me rt was the main reason to get an expensive card.
