  • In Stars and Time is, on the surface, a turn based RPG maker game, with a time loop mechanic, what it turns into is the darkside of the Groundhog Day formula, an exploration in love, loss, suffering, and loneliness. While it does have some rough spots, In Stars and Time does a good job of approaching the subversive storytelling genre.

    12:30 i think you mightve just beaten the game faster than intended. the transition to insanity was pretty smooth for me and I finished the game on loop 150 (with an above average playtime)

      I've watched a few other playthroughs since posting my review, and it felt jarring in theirs too for me... It usually just reached a point where the "things to do" got exhausted, and more of a push to the end started, which resulted in the "snap" - I think even just injecting some spoof-loops would have smoothed it out (ie have a few events that trigger multiple flashback memory loops to float up the perceived count, and introduced a more apparent wear on siffrin)

      I finished the game in 70 loops and the only moment that felt weird to me was when I got the memory of sadnesses in the same loop as my first "hang out with everyone" loop. I had no problem with the last loop, you just know something like that is going to happen once Siffrin runs out of objectives to follow

      @@astery5410 yea, it's an inevitability, it just felt a bit jarring with how quick that transition was (even if there had been a trigger for a 'multi-loop transition' that faked a bunch of loops in a short 30sec or so cutscene - it would've fixed that for me)

    Interesting game. Reminds me of undertale aesthetically, but a traditional RPG in combat. Will take a look!

      definitely worth a spin, the combat does get a bit repetitive, but I appreciate it when games with timelooping take into account how that would effect the protagonist.

    The thing is, it took me only 27 loops to beat the game.
    Normally, the loops actually skip a few loops upon looping, meanwhile getting to the Head Housemaiden always only puts you 1 loop forward.
    It took me exactly 20 loops till I started using tears effectively and travelled to the future.
