I have so much to say about this video. Both of my parents grew up in Boro Park, both saw the neighborhood change to what it is today (my father says it all started when the Bobover Rebbe first moved to BP). On my father’s side, his family had been living in BP since the 1920s. When my great-grandmother first moved there from the Bronx, BP was still mostly farmland. My grandma was born there in 1932 and remained there until she made aliyah in 2009. As a child, I visited BP a lot as both sets of grandparents lived there. We used to shop at G & Sons. Lunch at Amnon’s Pizza. Back then, Beth El still had a choir. My father was part of the choir back when Moshe Stern was the Chazzan, and he had many stories about those days. Walking down 52nd St, my Savta could tell me what year every building on her block was built.
@@_yiddishkeit there’s a lot more to say. So far, I like the content on your channel a lot-especially your take on Fiddler on the Roof. But I have many stories about Borough Park.
As many times as I have been to NY, I have never even heard of Boro Park. I've been to Prospect Park a couple of times when visiting the Brooklyn Museum, etc, but I have never even seen this on a map. I enjoy the Lower East Side because they have a beautiful old Synagogue that has been refurbished (I'm sure you have been there--Museum at Eldridge Street), and have been on a couple of walking tours that were very interesting. I actually bought a book at the museum about the making of Fiddler. I have only watched about 1/3 of this video so far, but am really enjoying it, like your other videos. I just found your UA-cams a day or 2 ago. Thank you so much for all of the time and effort you put into them. I like that you bring up different aspects, different sides. I would love to watch more about the history of different Jewish neighborhoods in NY. And maybe how the different cultures lived side by side in Ye Olden Days :) Thank you for your videos.
My heart breaks when I see beautiful historical buildings being mercilessly demolished to give way for some lackluster modern monstrosity 😢 This video was awesome, thank you so much for sharing! Can you do Crown Heights next please?
Very interesting, I grew up on the north side of Chicago, and it used to be a very Jewish area. I never spent a lot of time in New York, but your videos remind me so much of my childhood home.
I live in Midwood, a few blocks from Kings Highway. There is the Sephardic and Ashkenazi communities living side by side here. Lots of old shuls, new ones, shtebils, (my husband is dovening in one now because he woke up late to go to his own shul). I don't know the history of Jews in this neighborhood, but it does go back a long way.
I've lived here my entire life and never heard anyone pronounce it like "burr park" the way you do haha. It's Borough (Bur-row) Park. ;) But great video! Love your channel.
thank you. well- done. interesting. did you do the syrians- halabi and shami ( aleppo and damascus) ocean parkway and side streets? also other sephardic and mizrahi?
If you want to explore extinct Jewish neighborhoods, Brownsville. This is the sight of the teacher’s strike in the late 60s. A lot of Jewish history there, but the Jews have mostly moved out.

I def agree with you about the heartbreak, but it validated the feeling I have to document and discuss it. Crown heights is on the list!

That warms my heart. Thank you for sharing 💛
Thanks. A bit surprised not to see the (schmutzik) Maimonides Hospital mentioned.
Good point, I thought it deserved it's own exploration

Yes it is also a fascinating topic that I will hopefully cover soon!
Nicely done David.
Maybe do Williamsburg and Crown Heights as well
Thank you 😊 they're both on the list!
Other Jewish neighborhoods with history: Crown Heights, Williamsburg
I call it Boro double Park due to all the double parked vehicles you have to maneuver through
Yesss
Ha. My father would call it “triple park”, “chaptzem park”, and he’d compare driving down 13th Avenue to driving bumper cars.
Yes, Bensonhurst, you should explore there

So funny that it's actually Borough but Jews spell it Boro

Wow good point! I'm actually reading about Abe Reles and company so this hits different.
😊❤
They ruined somebody's van @8:28 😂😂😂
🙈
Are there armed police in this neighborhood ?
Other than NYPD there’s Shomrim. I don’t think they’re armed.
