    On the Solo, you can use a compression and a reverb plugin in the Solo itself, and so the singer can hear their vocal treated while they sing, but you can record it clean, or compressed with no reverb. The M2 can't do that. The singer will hear their voice bone dry. Your two options are to connect the M2 to an external mixer for monitoring and add compression/reverb there, OR to use the plugins in your DAW and set your DAW to the smallest sample rate possible, which pushes most computers too hard and causes glitches. Recording with compression and/or reverb is something the large majority of singers prefer. I think this is the most important feature of the Solo.

      Or Just use fl studio, and use "pre" plugin usage, so you can hear all effects, but not record them so cpu usage is lower and so latency.

      @budgetguitarist 2 роки тому +2

      @@nunu9849 Even at a buffer size of 32 samples, which will cream a lot of computers running CPU-hungry plugin synths, you're still not getting latency as low as the Solo in most setups. You can always freeze the tracks, and maybe get 5ms of latency, which most people say is too small to notice. But why not use something like the Solo and avoid the load on your CPU? Well, aside from the large price tag, that is...

      Well, actually in studio one you can monitor realtime without any problems (which is not the reality of cubase and pro tools, unfortunately). So that would be daw dependant but honestly recording with mic pre and compression is the way to go and that's why UA wins :)

    It's hard to believe this video was made by someone that truly understands UAD's apollo platform and expect knowledgeable viewers to take them seriously when they suggest to viewers to buy a Motu M2 interface and Mic Preamp to go along with it as a cheaper and better performing alternative to the Apollo Solo.
    Seeing that the Apollo Solo is bus powered and Unison technology enabled it's easy to reason that UAD's focus was on real portability and great recording sound quality.
    Telling people that the Motu M2 is better and then saying to get a Mic preamp to go along with it really comes off as wasteful spending nonsense and contradicts the cost, value, and performance talking points in this video.
    Viewers of this video😳! Please do not buy a Motu M2 interface and connect a Mic Preamp to its instrument inputs, it's an entry level product and wasn't really design for that. Motu has great and appropriate products design for accepting the output signal from Mic Preamps.

      @@rjb7569 Well theres no reason why the motu would not accept the signal its designed to do so hahaha the "Unison technology" the comment man is talking about is actually an emulation of different preamps... there is no proof that you cant make a hit song without UAD-emulations... But if money is no problem then it doesnt harm to have this emulation cuz the signal sounds better right at the start (eventhough a little bit of saturation later on would probably do the job too)

      I haven’t even watched the video, but I already agree with the sentiment. What the Arrow/Solo represents is a software based GOLD CHANNEL. The scenario would be you’re coming from a budget interface and you want better A/D D/A conversion and a quality front end to record analog signals thru (gtr Bass etc) Instead of spending a grand on a Great River or the like, you could kill two birds with on digital stone. Get decent digital conversion and a recording signal chain (unison preamp>comp>eq etc) What your NOT getting is a ROBUST dsp recording environment. If you keep your requirements in line with what this product will actually do...YOUR GOOD

    I bought the solo, and yeah your right, the one dsp can’t handle more than a couple uad plug-in at a time. I demo the 55 fender tweed and it took like 70% by it’s self. Lol. But the reason I got it was because I haven’t liked the pre-amps in the few other interfaces I’ve bought for guitar amp sim, the main function I use it for. And so I just use it with guitar amp plugins that run on my iMac, and I’m very impressed with sound I’m getting, way way better than the stienberg i had and focusrite. Those uad plug ins are stupidly expensive, and I knew that going in, but I bought it with the hopes that it would make my guitar amp plug ins I run on my computer sound really good and I’m very happy with it for that. I don’t notice any latency and even the pro logic and garage band plugins sound great, much better than on my other less expensive interfaces. But yeah, like You say, if you got it to use for the uad plugins...you won’t be happy. The free legacy plugins actually sound great, and they don’t take up much dsp, but like that fender 55 tweed plug in, it used 70% buy it’s self. Lol. I think you’d have to have like the quad if you wanted to use for just the uad plugins. To me, for the price those uad plug ins, yeah they sound nice, but not for outrageous price. But I’m happy with what I use it for...but who knows, as I get more knowledgeable about recording and stuff maybe I’ll be unhappy, seems that how it always goes

    The main benefit to me, over the Motu is the ability for me to track something with FX and no latency in a large session with a lot of plugin ins. Which as a songwriter, that is super duper helpful. I love the ability to add something or redo something without having to resource manage the session. The UA plugins are native now too. I care much less about the DSP after something is tracked. My machine can handle most of everything i throw at it.

    Hey, I currently record on a 10year old scarlet 2i2 usb-Interface and want to upgrade my setup to a more professional one - starting with a new interface whic should be reliable and serve me well for the next 6+ years of my production journey. As I now have the chance to buy a used (1y old) apollo solo from a local recording studio for 400€, i was wondering if you would recommend doing so or if I should rather go with a cheaper interface (e.g. Audient Id14; SSL2+ Or even AUDs Volt 276)? I heard that with only one chip, the solo might run into problems with the DSP plugins, but as I would most likely only use the free plugins one gets when buying the solo in the beginning, don’t own any analogue gear and mostly record vocals (rap/singing), I don’t know if this would even be a problem for me. Basically, would you recommend buying the solo - and is it a great interface for long term use or just a gimmick for professionals that wont be worth it for me as a semi-professional (personally I heard everything from totally overpriced and wont be able to deal with the plugins to a total game changer and recommended if one is serious about recording). I just really want a well manufactured, reliable interface and am kind of struggling to find some good information on this. Lover your videos and thank you in advance!

    It all comes down to if you like the Apollo workflow. I personally love it, but to others it will not make sense. If you don't have any use for tracking/monitoring with DSP then I would highly recommend looking elsewhere because you'll get more bang for your buck that way. For me personally, having the integrated DSP and UAD plugins is a big part of my workflow and I would not want to be without it.

    I feel you bro, but I think you going to hard on making people feel the solo is not worth it. at the end of the day its not for everyone. and thats the thing that everyone is gonna be different as to how they record and what they use. music in general has no rules. if you know ur stuff you can record, mix and master with all cheap products if you got the ear for it. I got the solo my self. but most likely will never hook up a guitar. let alone hardware. I just feel theres no need no more, and we can get into to the whole it sounds better this and that. but at the end of the day like I said if you know ur stuff ur gonna get a good mix regardless. just like people comparing u87 to the Nt1-a lol. and some saying they dont hear no difference. thats BS. they dont have the ear in my opinion. most people can't even mix in the u87 right. any way... back to these interfaces. I was at first really considering the volt276 but ended up getting the solo only because of the plug ins and it just looks and feels better to me. also the arrow was thunderbolt 2 new solo is 3 that means it faster about 50 percent. I got the money to spend lol so I really dont care. tbh but watching your video did make me feel like I just blew my money haha but its all good. I dont feel that way at all! so unless you open up an arrow and a solo and run tests not just read specs but run actual tests look at parts and see overall if anything changed. you shouldn't go on here so hard miss guiding people. because you will do just that. get all your facts correct before you go on here publicly talking all that shit.

    Definitely agree.. I actually own a UAD Arrow, and the dsp is good for a few of the stock plugins, but as soon as you buy heavier preamp emulations like the Neve 1073 or 1084, then your dsp is almost maxed out. You can’t even run a proper reverb with it. Sure it’s BUS powered and extremely portable, but if you have the desk space, getting a good rack preamp, compressor, eq and a cheaper interface will cost about the same, and give you 100% better sound. You can then add reverb and other 3rd party plugins from companies like WAVE which are just as good, and a lot cheaper than UAD plugins.

    Saying the M2 outspec’ing the solo is dead wrong. Read and compare manuals dawg.
    In a few spots, maybe the M2 does a better job. Specifically with the outputs. But the input is what matters most in an interface anyways. It’s what is actually capturing your sound.

    I went with the Motu M2. UAD only has a handful of plugins that are better than the competition.
    just BUY a PCI-E accentor card. much better value if you are only interested in just the plugins.
    1 DSP PCI-E card with has 8 SHARC DSP = £945
    Apollo x8 has 6 SHARC DSP chips = £2,499.00

      Yessir. Connect the Audient to the twin via optical cable. As for the preamp, you just route your Line Out from your external preamp to the Mic/Line In of your interface. Preferably via trs as some interface's stock pre's can by bypassed.

I bought a motu M4 and the AD/DA conversion is nowhere near as good as they say it is..If the solo gives me better conversion quality, then that's the only thing that matters..Who cares if the M4 is cheaper when your sound is full of jitter, smearing your audio all over the place? Plugins don't fix jitter, but the guys just starting out don't know that, do they?

It uses the same AD/DA from their famous flagship units. And it looks like it might be the best audio interface out. It does have a hefty price slapped on it but nobody has done any videos on it and I’m very curious

  • @djeliasR
    @djeliasR 4 роки тому +7

    bro the metering alone is a big thing. the Audient doesn't have proper light or metering feedback. the MOTU m2 or m4 build quality doesn't come close to the solo or any other UAD interfaces. The Solo is a great entry point into the UAD ecosystem. You're comparing apples to oranges. The differences in pricing come down to build quality and pre-amp quality. the solo is built like a tank. if you have no external gear this is the one to get. some people dont have a need for multiple inputs because they are working inside the box. so this interface is geared towards a specific user. so you essentially arguing something that doesn't make sense because they dont promote it for every user. theres a spcific userbase for this interface and it just works and is of the best audio quality out there. Audient cards sound great but lack in Metering or LED where you cant even see your input level. Sorry man I think you failed to really compare features on this. seems like your video was mostly opinion based and not on real facts

    • @UndergroundSoundProductions
      @UndergroundSoundProductions  4 роки тому

      While I agree with you to some extent I think you’re being a bit harsh with the M2 & M4. They’re both made out of metal and have very good build quality by today’s standards and the preamps in both rival the solo. Again, the only real reason at that point you’d buy an Apollo is for the plugin ecosystem and because you wanna take advantage of their unison function. I think the Apollo is great but as you said it’s certainly not meant for everyone which is why I made the video on why I wouldn’t buy it. However, I did end up getting one and have been enjoying working with it for these last few days. I have more content coming with the solo so stay tuned!

    • @JaeBTundra1
      @JaeBTundra1 4 роки тому

      The id22 is built like a tank and also have the meters. It's better if your serious about expanding your studio and not just relying on plugins. Plus you can bypass preamps and fully use external gear from the excellent clean converters. You can just use plugins to track inputs.
