Xavier Griffin and his uncle came on USC J’s podcast and proclaimed profusely that this wasn’t some spur of the moment commitment and that they are 100% in with USC. His uncle is from LA and he had nothing but compliments for the staff, especially Lynn and Henny. They seem like they are legit locked in. Go watch it and see for yourself

Thank you Chris & Marc for your rants on not wanting to end the USC vs Notre Dame rivalry. That should NEVER happen & it does sound weak minded. To win a national championships now you have to beat 3 great teams that means you have to be great team yourself & a tough schedule to get you ready for the playoffs! Lincoln Riley needs to stop trying to create an easy pathway for everything towards a national championship this why he has failed so far as a head coach when it matters most
Last week didn’t feel like a real week. That was because we weren’t able to get into our weekly Trojan Huddle. These guys all deserved their time off, I’m sure. I’m also sure glad that they’re back and bringing us their thoughts about….the defense! Music to my ears. This is the unit that I am most focused on this year. I played EA Sports College Football 25 and sent the results of SC vs. UCLA and also LSU to a friend of mind (you know who you are, and let me remind you that you asked me to promise you a win against LSU, no matter what).
The results? USC 77, UCLA 17 …. And USC 58, LSU 10.
Ok, so I played the game at the “Freshman” level. I had to do it. I just had to. And it was glorious. The sounds of the fans, the band, the announcers all added to the fun. So now that I have had my fun I will gradually get into the game and raise the difficulty level. Hey, it’s just a game. And so is our actual College Football by the way, except for the part where we all live and die for those Saturdays. Those days when we don’t want to hear you tell us about what Susan said at the water cooler at work. Yes, I just stole Chris’ material. A little bit. I’m just happy that SC has a real shot this year.
Why? What’s changed? We have a five star defensive coaching staff headed up by D’Anton Lynn which includes so many greats it will make my fingers tired to type out all of their names. Ok. I will mention Coach Henney. With the addition of this talented man who “coached up” Aaron Donald being on the USC sideline shouting about “Dawg Work”, praise the Lord and let the Church say Amen, in the words of a pastor of mine and a good friend. We have a lot to look forward to this year because I believe we will have a strong, well coached and disciplined defense.
Not to mention that proven Lincoln Riley led offense that churns out yards by the hundreds and points by about half the same. This upcoming season looks like one where SC is going to live up to its winning tradition. LSU is no “freshman” pushover, it’s true. But I think that they are coming up against a surprisingly good USC defense, and will be facing an offense that will rack up the points in a hurry.
Last thought…the USC Notre Dame rivalry should continue. If the time comes right down to whether to drop this cherished rivalry or not, I will be right there on campus with Chris and I’ll have my pitchfork ready. We need that tradition. That one is part of the “blue” in our blood as Trojans. So let’s go Trojans, and Fight ON.
Chris is 100% right, we need to continue to play tough schedules including Notre Dame every year! FTFO! Back when you needed to go undefeated or one loss, to make the playoffs, I understand the Bama scheduling, now, we don't need it.BTW, I was at Mark's game pick, I was 12 and it was my first USC game.

What we do or don't know about this 2024 USC season? That LR has been underachieving in rebuilding this program recruitment wise. There is so much mystery about the ability of this team on both the offense & defense. In a HC's 3rd year, his program should be in much better shape.

LR process? Please explain what that process is? What has he done since he has been at SC that is anything different than what he did at Oklahoma? You can’t even describe the culture that Riley has established and if there is one, it sure isnt built on a solid foundation. We are 3 years into his tenure and there is nothing special going on. There are de-commits happening faster than guys commit.
Clay Helton had a better record at this point than LR does yet SC fans are still convinced that LR is some mastermind of a HC? It’s just hard to accept that the previous coach who SC fans have nothing nice to say about was a better coach up to this point than LR. Helton didn’t have Caleb Williams either and he took over a program that was in worse shape than rikey took over. The truth and facts of Riley is he has excuse after excuse and has NEVER taken responsibility for anything that goes wrong or is obviously broken. He originally left OU and talked about the advantages of coaching at SC. He said at that time that everything was in place that he needed to win NC’s. Now he doesn’t have any of the things necessary. Facilities ( do kids even care about that now? ) NIL, no big men in California ( does he even recruit California? ) excuse after excuse. Everyone wonders why LR catches so much shit? It’s the missing backbone of Riley that is so unattractive to the rest of the country outside of SC fans.
It’s embarrassing to have a HC so weak and soft. Any fan base should have a problem with a coach who can’t take responsibility for anything. When is the last time you heard LR talk about it not being good enough and that they have a ways to go in order to be a NC team? All he does is talk about how he feels like SC is in that top tier of the Big 10? Based on what? How can you not even be in the top tier of the PAC but then all of the sudden be a top tier team in the Big 10?
He’s a blowhard. Everyone not named an SC fan now understands that fact.

Yeah. They’re also playing Alabama,0le Miss, Tennessee,LSU ,Missouri, South Carolina,and Texas. That’s like a murderers row right there. Maine could use the money also.
Typical SC fan these days. When LR is your coach all you have is the ability to point fingers. LR can’t take responsibility and the fans just follow blindly into the abyss of LR’s world

38:00 - 43:00 . I think what was left out of the argument~ Fellas, which is an important point, is that the 'SEC' plays an 8 conference game schedule. The Pac 12, when it was in existence, and the BIg 10 & BIG 12 play a 9 conference schedule. That's advantage #1 for the SEC, and a HUGE one at that, because it adds in an extra creme puff for them, usually an FCS School
Then that still leaves 3 more out of conference games that the SEC has = giving them 4 wins on the season, 1 being late in the season so they can rest their players. In addition, it's the 'Laws of Attrition'.... they are able to rest their players, while using more players during the season, gaining more experience, which means less injuries, while preparing them for November. I'm an older guy as well, not a Gen Z , but they have merit being the SEC. in how they prepare their schedule .
Their 4 out of conference breakdown schedule is usually 1 FCS school, 2 Group of 5's, and then 1- half way decent FBS school, but they make sure, its a short trip, usually neutral ground in the south or southwest.
USC plays a 9 conference schedule = disadvantage, but a must now being in the BIg 10,...add in Notre Dame, and then an LSU game, that is 11 FBS opponents vs 9, sometimes 8 which the SEC plays every year, that's what Lincoln and Colin are thinking about. It's not so much dodging Notre Dame, it's the make up of the entire schedule thats in question!!

Problem with USC is recruiting. When Sean Cody was the man he also had Mike Patterson along side of him and Manual Wright to spare them. Sedrick Ellis and Fili Moala were both a problem and had Jurrell Casey.

As Arhedge pointed out, the only teams who are going to win the NC are one of those Top 4 with a bye. A top 4 USC team beats ND.

Mason Murphy starting at RT is a huge liability. Murphy can’t run or pass block. Whenever Caleb had to run for his life, the pocket breakdown was from Murphy. Elijah Paige would be a better RT than Murphy! Fight On! ✌🏽

According to Chris, SC are better off highlighting victories over the Irish than National championships; people preach tradition when it suits. There is a reason why Alabama and Georgia seldom played during the regular season. The game has changed, for the worse IMHO. SC have to move with the times and give itself the most viable path to a National Championship which may or may not include the Irish.

Michigan used to play Notre Dame every year. Purdue used to play Notre Dame every year. Michigan State used to.... Times change and Notre Dame has benefited far more than USC playing that game given the independent scheduling arrangement they have. Notre Dame is the petulant child of college football, kicking and screaming to get what they want. I hope they drop the game for the time being.

This would fit right in with LR’s MO so why not just go ahead and cancel all future games against any P4 program but especially rivalry games. I mean who would want to have a good win over ND?
