Don't expect much from dcs.sadly they care about nothing but new modules. The game is the same for 10 years, The animatronics in Disney are better then anything in dcs.
anyone else excited to have the the chinook Apache and Kiowa work together for missions this year, i cant wait to see what the multiplayer mission designers come up with
@TomP-148 well apatche heilcopters can carry air to air to shoot enemy heils as well as jets. Although the best American attack helicopter for air defence is the ah 1z viper which has better air to air missles then apatche and can even shoot down fast moving jets
Honestly youve sold me on the Kiowa, learning about it from someone who flew one in combat is such a cool experience and im glad youve shared your knowledge with us :)
@CasmoTV, stingers on the OH-58D were originally used against boats during Prime Chance. We'd also practice with the CFT on cars as they'd lock up pretty well on them and I always wondered how they'd work against technicals but we never took them with us in the box.
It is interesting to see a characteristic that is commmon in all of the tutorials you showed so far: the Kiowa is ready to go. Click here, press that, and boom, you are ready. It is not "Gucci", not super complex, no need to fiddle around pages, just look here, do that and go! Looking forward to its release.
Questions for my curiosity ; very familiar with Stinger MANPAD and Bradley Linebacker setups. With the MANPAD we used a battery coolant unit that gave power and about 45 seconds of argon to cool the seeker head. Linebacker used bottles of argon stored in the launcher pod. I imagine that the Kiowa had a bottle strapped to the launcher assembly too? Does the game simulate the supply of argon? You can’t just fly around with a cooled, uncaged seeker head for more than a few minutes? Thanks.
Having stingers automatically makes it better than the Apache. Yes I know the Apache can carry them too, just not in DCS. That's what I'm talking about.
No, the AH-64D canNOT equip the Stingers, neither in DCS, nor in real life, because the rails on the wingtips were removed and sensors attached... which is pretty obvious if you compare the typical "I got proof photo (trial on AH-64A) to the actual AH-64D. 😉
@@jubuttib super elevate just means point the launcher up once you got tone. Like Casmo said, it helps the missile avoid obstacles. If you notice during videos of Ukrainians firing MANPADS, they are always on the wood line or somewhere hidden.
@@Dionysus2009 Gotcha, thanks! I knew you were supposed to point it up at least a bit regardless, was wondering if the "super elevation" was to make sure that the missile doesn't hit the ground if there's a slight delay between it getting pushed out of the tube and the main rocket motor lighting up.
@@Dionysus2009 Thanks for the confirmation. Always been interested in how those are to work with, and only got to fire a LAW a couple of times irl. =) Actually now that I've got you here, how does the lockup process work on a shoulder fired stinger? Do they uncage automatically or do they stay caged? Are there more buttons than just the launch one to use? In addition to DCS I also like playing ArmA, and it always annoys me how the heatseekers there take like 5+ seconds to lock up, clearly not based on the real ones...
When you were talking about detents, does the fire button on the KW have detents? I only ask because I thought in a previous video I heard you say that the red trigger on the front of the cyclic is actually the com switch for talking on the radios and intercom.
@@CasmoTV ah okay so in a DCS environment where the only control input some of us may have that has two detents is the front trigger, we may need to change things up a bit with the bindings to get two stage pulls. IE, move the PTT to another bind, fire button goes to the front trigger for dual stage capabilities.
Good video, but it made me curious...can the KW carry asymmetric stores? Can you mount the fifty on one side, and Stingers on the other? Inquiring minds want to know! 🤔
Are the smoke grenades on the dash an option you can decide to use if you want them? Iv seen so many videos of real kiowas with like 10 smokes on the dash but they're missing in DCS :(
Looks like using these is nice and straight forward, and can even get help from the video feed, nice. The power of the missiles is hard to judge, when DCS' AI helicopter damage model is so wonky right now. Except it never flew with them in combat. US helicopters only operate in areas with dominated airspace. So it was deemed unnecessary to A2A missiles on a helicopter designed to kill tanks.
The Apache, Kiowa and Chinook together is going to be unbelievably epic. All we need is an overhaul of the ground units.

That’s how the army builds things, with common sense unlike the Air Force.
